    I'm surprised most people don't get what she is doing here, she is comparing what doctors and nurses are dealing with in hospitals and the dead and dying they are seeing during the pandemic to deaths in war. It's a tribute. So yeah its somber.

    I'm really surprised too! I feel like this is one of the most obvious meanings of the songs in the album and it's so beautifully done.

    The first verse is about her grandfather in the war. The second verse is about doctors and frontline people in the medical field during COVID19 now.

    The medical personnel in this pandemic only have 20 minutes to sleep- but they dream of an epiphany, a cure, to make sense of all their patents suffering. They serve together and the fall down ill from this disease together. Comparable to a soldier going to war At least that’s my interpretation. Also this song grew on me. I used to be an exile fan, but now I’m all about epiphany.

    Yeah, I can't blame him for saying the song isn't for him, since it was definitely one of those on initial listen that I kind of wanted to "skip" (I don't actually do skips) but now it's definitely at least very good.

    In my head this song draws parallels between doctors during covid and veterans of war... Both see horrible things and suffer terrible ptsd in silence... Because some things (like death and fear) you can't speak about. And through the constant noise that is your anxiety driven mind, you dream of those 20 minutes of peace. You want to have an epiphany that would explain the meaning of what you're doing, in the grand scheme of things, that would justify the ptsd you're suffering now.

  • @disgaeajean13
    @disgaeajean133 жыл бұрын

    This is immediately the most devastating song off folklore. It brushes up on generations worth of separation from war, and likens that same despair to this pandemic now. Med school does not prepare frontliners for the grief they see in their profession. The epiphany is finding light despite that.

    I completely disagree with people who say this is not good of a song, not listening to it because it's too sad is one thing, completely disregarding it is another. I feel this song, although the meaning might be obvious to some, has so many layers and it's ethereal. Also, its the kind of song which really grows on you. It hits you, you just don't realize that it has. Good channel though.. Keep it up

    She's basically painting two pictures here: the first is about soldiers in war, most likely inspired by her grandfather's part in WW2. The second one is about health stuff during this pandemic. She's comparing the two, and saying how little they have to rest, and how they probably wish for some epiphany to make all make sense for them.

    I dont think epiphany was in any way made to go on playlists and for people to stream... if you know what i mean. I think the song drags and is slow, kind of like death. During the pandemic many passed and alone. And im sure they had ephinanys... its a beautiful song just way too deep that i feel anxiety listening to it.. The ending is the sound of like the hospital..an ecg

    I think the last part, when the drums come in, is representing the sound of an heartbeat...and I am totally with you is sound churchy, but I am pretty sure it was done on purpose, like even her background vocals resemble a church chorus I have to admit this song made me cry at first listen, but I right away connected it with covid when she started to talk about watching someone breath (because naturally with the coronavirus this is the problem, people can't breath on their own at all) and I lived in a red area, and it was like hearing ambulances every day, at every hour, coming and going...it was horrible..also because in my family a lot work in that field, so it was hard when it peaked

    I won't hold it against you about not liking this song. It was the same for me at first.. but a few weeks in.. I appreciate it on an entirely different level. I thought this would have been something similar to how Soon You'll Get Better made me feel.. but for some reason it is different and I am not sure why that is but it's an incredible song that adds much needed texture to the album. Hope you grow to like it. Also there is no need to compare it with something that you were previously listening to... it is placed on the album for a reason and makes sense on it too.. and how is an upbeat version of this supposed to make the idea stick with the listener? Anyway. Good video? Yeah I guess so.
