Something about a Rabbit/Gulf that I Love. I dunno what it is about these boxy little things but they’re cool

What a kit, I used have the real MK1, MK2 and MK3 so this really appeals to me. I hear there are some more being released at the end of the year. I hope to get one and if I do I will leave each coat a week before I dare mask over the paint ready for the next colour.

My brother had one of the F2 racing cars and it was so simple with the pressed metal chassis. It was mental fast with even a 6V battery and he spent more time saving up for new bumpers than driving it! Very simple diff and an aluminium gear that used to melt before your eyes, they were so soft. Great laugh though.

G'day mate great little chassis M05 i've got a M05 Pro chassis with the see through shocks and all the blue bits. After seeing old mates car Tamiya legend paint scheme but I don't know you probably have a few already. It will be a challenge what ever you do with it happy R/C'n mate👍👍

Thanks RC Icons! Never knew about the orginal, I guess the numbers don't add up for a re re. That body looks to be, for me at least, one of those starting off with high standards but ending up with a "better done than perfect". Good luck!

I just built mine. The paint job was a lot of work, and no window masks either. Very satisfying once done though.

Original was in 81... You got to get this one done this year... 41yrs later

Cool looking bodyshell, and the M05 chassis is pretty easy to build, and a shedload of fun to drive. Awesome video as always!!

BOX ART !!! Has to be. I think it’s 1/12 scale same as Renault 5 turbo when next to 1/10 gives correct scale. Old school classic. Thanks for throwing glen under the bus to paint that shell 😂 Keith. Seeing that there is no decals to hide lines 🤯 could be time to try liquid mask ? The bleeding on all those tape lines 😫

This paint job has me hidding behind the sofa Glenn! If ever you wanted a tamiya pre painted shell its this one! Great little kit though but l do agree l would love to see some tamiya rere truly more like the actual originals but l for one love rere cars though and am so grateful tamiya started doing them! I was very sceptical at first when tamiya rere the XR311 back in 2000 but rere cars have worked in all aspects ever since! Tamiya got it right! and thats it mate as you said an original will always be an original! Cheers pal.😉👍

I bought mine for £89. Then paid a pro painter to paint it. No way was I attempting that ! Also you will need to do the wide rear axle mod or the rear tyres will be way to far into the arches.

I would love to see a Re-release of the original, like the scorcher and I love it. They dont make em like they used to, and they dont do that because it would be expensive. The scorcher was close to 400 and went up of course to 408, so thats why it also is an unknown. PS. im glad to hear that im not the only man that thinks things are cute other than women hehe.

You should use masking fluid. It would make this much easier and super crisp clean lines.

on all the straight lines of this kit i would try to tape it, but yes, its a total nightmare.

i have one i bought painted and its just plain metallic blue, still looks great.

Thats a sweet kit, boxart is a must even if you will end up spending more money on paint and maskingtape then the actually kit itself 😂

Love the kit, the golf looks absolutely fantastique. There is 2 things buyers should be aware of: The body is made for 55mm wheel. Eaven that is a tight fit, gets better when they are worn down to 54mm. The Normal M-Chassis 60mm wheels do not fit - and due to the bodey shape its not possible to cut the wheel wells bigger. The second thing is of course the M-05 well known: only round stick packs fit. Square packs only if you swap to the v2 chassis.

Love to see what you do with this one ! Just picked up the same kit and debating when to start and what colors to go with.

Yeah, I’d be thinking about a custom livery on this one…

Given the Lamborghini Countach is such a unicorn I’d be totally ok if they brought a version maybe the later model Countach with the aero package on an M08 or other simple chassis with a differential. I’m not into getting mad at Re-Re’s but understand if they brought a true re-Re Countach but if they did the 1985 ish one with the wing it’d be fine.

There were some lovely Mk1 racing liveries back in the day, including one from Martini. Maybe you could do one of your tribute cars using decals from one of the Lancia kits. You could have a Delta, 037 and Golf in the same livery. There is also a picture of the real box art car on Pinterest.

2:42 rereleases definitely make the originals less desirable. Why would I drool over a 40 year old Tamiya, if I can buy one 99% like it at the store.. The originals will always have the cool vintage look and patina, but a rerelease craps on it.

The blue livery is superb. Personally, I'd go all in, and to a LGBTQI rainbow livery - really make is special!
