Excellent video. I remember riding these trams as a child growing up in Sydney.

What a brilliant film, the narration perfect, the music was at times quite comical, but I really loved it all, sadly Sydney nowadays is quite "dead" by comparison to the good ol' days. Thank You for the film. Thank you KZread XX

Thanks for the memories. I grew up in Sydney and used these trams many times. I was sad when they were discontinued. Melbourne was the only city that had any sense by continuing their trams.

When we had a decent transport not a fancy or fast one .But one that worked for the greater city & kept it simple. Getting you from A to B

The short sighted Government of the day (1961) removed the trams from Sydney and now in 2019 they're putting them back at huge cost. Go figure!

The problem with trams at that time you can't change the route or have an express tram Sydney at that time had rapid population growth it's a major commitment building new tracks and impedes traffic flow in a major city .And the whole system was outdated and obsolete beyond restructuring ,beyond economic repair .Had no choice but to retire and go with buses .Bit like a old fibro house with crook footings knock down rebuild (KDR)

Indeed. Melbourne took a very different approach and hence we have very different transport systens of today.

@@robertceroli3512 you can always change routes and change anything you wish but the petroleum lobby was way to strong and wholesale economic vandalism ensured with tramway destruction and railway destruction, as evidence today. Now replacing with non connecting “light rail” routes and different equipment with different methods of operation show the absolute corruption of successive state governments. The current light rail projects, whether it be Sydney light rail to Randwick or the new Parramatta Light Rail is 12 kilometres at $2.9 Billion; think about that? $271 666 667 per kilometre! Is that not totally corrupt?

The music is dreamlike and dated, which is appropriate for footage of Sydney's past. I suppose you could watch this muted with closed captions? It's wonderful footage. Don't be put off just because of the music!

Thank you for the footage! The stupid state government should have kept them ! It would have been a great tourist attraction!! Lol but then again? When people vote for fools this is what happens! My father did national service 1950s nearly got sent to Malaysia under Robert Menzies who was probably the worst pm in History! I did my time in the RAAF as a kid ! Best times in my life ! Williamtown Darwin & Butterworth ❤❤❤ when you're 23 yrs of age behind a Mirage 3 u feel like you're bullet proof!!! Lol

Another commentator was right about the horrendous music, some of it being Xmas tunes, totally inappropriate. Would be better to add 30 seconds worth of music at the start and 15 seconds at the end, with just the narrator's voice for the rest.

@@top40researcher31 There's the problem. Many don't know how to mix back the music audio so it is unobtrusive. So better to have brief music at start and end of a video and leave the rest to commentary with the natural sounds picked up by the camera(if any).

50:00 In 1958 Kings Cross was yet to earn the sleazy, trashy reputation it had in the late 1970s, into the 1980s and 1990s. Kings Cross is yet to shake off that stigma.
