This was part of my first ever train DVD which I got for my ninth birthday in 2004. Who would’ve thought then I would become a volunteer on the Pichi Richi Railway just over a decade later. I’ve been involved for nearly five years now. I produced a promotional film for them last year and was released earlier this year. It can be seen on my channel. W933 pictured here is currently stored and awaiting overhaul. Two other WAGR W’s work on the railway, W916 that was restored in 2002 to look like Silverton Tramways W22. The original W22 was beyond economical repair but parts were used off of W22 for 916. W934 currently runs and came back to service last year after completion of a lengthy overhaul. The carriage body seen in the workshops near the W Class is the carriage section for the Coffee Pot and behind that is our much loved Brill Railcar which returned to service in the early 90s. And who would’ve thought that the Abt Railway in Tasmania would reopen fully almost twenty years after this was made. Went on that railway in 2016 and took over 2500 photos. My Nikon got a thorough workout that day. Anyhow, thank you for uploading my friend. Many memories with this DVD. Cheers Caleb

59 on. The report on the Dorrigo branch on Big Country. Fascinating. Nothing came of the dreams to restore the line ! The line has mostly been taken over by nature. . A hoarder has created the biggest mass of locos and carriages at Dorrigo. These trains will never run. The so called museum will never open. Worth a visit !

The ABC was different in 1985, modern day abc staff would have a climate panic attack if they saw that much smoke and steam.

The Glenreagh to Dorrigo preserved line was destroyed by one man. A locomotive hoarder he has alienated all others and stockpiled the largest collection of locos ever. The line now is an impassable wilderness. I believe he’s seen here as a much younger man. A shameful story.

The Pichi Richi Pass. The old timers would take the capital letters off the notice. This service now goes through to Port Augusta although it went to Woll Shed Flats the first time I rode it. Stopped twice for photo shoots and it was a very good experience for a Pom.

EXCEPTIONAL presentation - thank you. i WAS BORN IN 1957. As a kid I remember LISTENING to the steam train engines when I was a passenger and occasional sleeper carriage. On an Uphill grade the engine used to say "I THINK i CAN", I think I can, I think I can (at a slow rate). Toward the top and lesser grade the engine would say I "THOUGHT" I could, I thought I could, I thought I could ( a happy engine). Then on the downhill grade the engine would say "I KNEW" I could, I knew I could, I knew I could (at quite quick beats). Its just how I used to listen to the train and engine in my young days. Plus the beautiful burning coal "Aroma" is something I will never forget - even now that I'm 62 years old now.❤😍 😁

Aussie Pom,3506 3526 and 3535 were painted blue in in the 1930s to haul the Caves Express, with a set of blue and cream painted 'R'' series carriages before being rebuilt into their final form..at that time, various classes of engine were painted in green or maroon to brighten up the public image of the Railways; various 12,32,34 and 36 class were painted green, while 4 32 class were painted maroon for Newcastle services; 3265 has been restored to represent that service, in addition various carriage sets were painted in contrasting colour schemes as well..I can't help but think of what could have been with the Enfield depot site, given that the RTM wanted to renovate no 1 round house , and replace 2 and 3 with an exhibition hall the same width as no 1; the atmosphere and authentic facilities of a steam depot were lost, I unfortunately never saw it personally, and have always viewed Thirlmere as like a theme park, although they have done some good locomotive work on a their own financial budget, with some government assistance (3801 especially, and hopefully the 57)

Loco 3526. This clip is monochrome but the engine itself was in black livery anyway back then. This engine recently reappeared at Maitland's Steamfest in 2019 in an all-new green livery. We might've seen it in 2020 but Covid-19 put paid to that. We were hoping to see the legendary 3801 as well but will have to wait until 11th & 12th September, this year(2021) for our chance to see these locos again.

The 32-class locos were named for regions of NSW. 3237, built in the last year of the 19th Century, 1900, was named *Lachlan* while her slightly younger sister engine, 3265, built in the first year of the 20th Century, 1901, Australia's birth year(federation), was named *Hunter!*

18:40 The announcer(narrator) got it WRONG! Loco 3526 had always, from the time of its build in 1915, worn *black* livery up until being overhauled in 2018 when she was painted green. And it was in that new green livery she returned to Maitland's annual *Steamfest* in 2019.

That BHP shunting loco (22:43) would not have been built in America as BHP Newcastle had ready access to companies like Varleys and A. Gonninan & Co. to build their shunting engines, both steam and diesel powered.
