My Mother and I would watch this and laugh until we cried, she passed away almost 4 months ago now and god I miss her so much. Watching these SNL clips brings back such bittersweet memories.

Whenever something hysterical happens I look at Bill Hader's face...you can see him cracking just a bit and it's so cute! and Kristen Wiig is just....perfect!

she makes me laugh so much my face hurts!!!

I love every single one of these "Surprise Sue" videos. She can do anything!

3:22-3:50 is one of the best moments in comedy history. The maneurisms to showcase absolute nervousness are just spot on and I'm crying on laughter every time I rewatch 🤣🤩

Walken's a fantastic actor, but not everyone is skilled at doing live comedy. DeNiro is another example: fabulous screen actor, but much more challenged in SNL sketches.

1:03 her enthusiastic “yES!” is frickin great.

They all read them on SNL. Generally they don't look at each other but remain looking at the cards and the cameras are set up so their eye line looks like they're looking at each other. Walken should've just kept looking at the cards, not back and forth.

It's a bit like a busdriver with a gps. It's ok but you wonder what the added value of the guy is. Same with cues. If actors don't learn lines,,,why are we still watching??

@fAppIicationof SeIf Bill Hader has a famous story he tells about how often when he was doing Stefon, John Mulaney (who was writing for SNL at the time), would make changes to the lines literally the minute before Hader was supposed to go out on stage. These cue cards are necessary.

Someone made me watch this many years ago. I had not laughed at SNL for years and was not interested. He basically forced me to watch it. When it was done I was just speechless. WTF did I just watch and I had to watch it again. I almost couldn't laugh because it was too genius. Flawless. The timing, the characters, the premise, the build and the crescendo, the surprises! all of it. I had never heard of Kristen Wiig and just thought she was 'Sue'. Then I looked her up and the next thing I saw was Penelope. This was the same person?! Another hilarious sketch and hypnotic character.... "Well I guess I'll just say, I'm best friends with all the muppets, including Scooter. I was invited to all their weddings...." I've seen everything of her SNL stuff I can since then and shared with 100's of people. I just sent out "Two A Holes Buying a Christmas Tree" for some christmas cheer... "What street are we on? Make me a smoothie." I definitely have some favorites. Her impressions are fantastic and so many, but her original characters are legendary. She inspired me to do a bunch of little sketches (I am an actor) and I found a new approach to characters that was more authentic. I have a few of them on here if you're interested, just don't compare me to the queen! So glad I watched this sketch that day.
