The amount of improv in this skit makes it seem so much more lifelike, McCarthy and Sudeikis are so incredible

This was years of training and talent condensed to six minutes of pure fun. No over-acting. No mugging. Roller-coaster of emotions.

I keep coming back to this sketch because not only is it hilarious, I am just in awe of the brilliant performances of Melissa and Jason, especially knowing much of it was improvised. Such talent. One of my top 10 SNL sketches ever.

Barb, this character actually felt real. This is why Melissa is an amazing, and horribly underrated actress. I felt emotional at the end, and happy and excited. No other snl cast member ever did that to me

Jason and Melissa are so funny together. They have so much chemistry and I find myself doubled over in laughter watching them in these snl sketches.

One of the BEST sketches SNL ever did....I just love Melissa - such a wonderful actress!

4:46 - 5:46 Felt like I was watching a play, not a tv sketch. They handled comedy and drama within that minute without breaking or trying to make each other laugh like on eeevery other snl sketch. I’d love to see them acting together in a movie or series, I know I’d watch it right away. Also, I love how Melissa brings her characters alive for a few minutes, I can imagine the life of Barb just hearing her talk, her mannerisms… she is a really great actress.

“It is legitimate I legitimately love eating pizza.”

It's simple, Melissa McCarthy is a legend. She cracks me up every time! I bloody love her.

She makes things way funnier than they are, hard to imagine who else could sell this idea. She has that Tim Conway kind of energy that just knows how to work the absurdity of the situation.

“It says pizza! Let’s go!” She’s not here to waste time!

She's so infectious and talented. She has more of the old school Carol Burnette/Tim Conway semi-improv style. Very refreshing.

Jason and Melissa play two people who are frustrated with each other so damn well. I wish they'd write something like this with them again.

One of the few times I've seen Jason break during a skit on SNL.. Melissa is a legend.

She doesn't seem to play a character, when she goes into the skit, she Becomes the character she's playing! She nails every single scene she is in! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣👍🏼

I was not familiar with her work before this but she totally won me over with her SNL sketches. You can tell she puts her own spin on them. Incredible charisma. Very funny!!

This sketch is actually quite remarkable. McCarthy doesn't appear to be reading any prompter ; it looks like she's mostly winging it. And Sudeikis seems to be in partial improvisation mode as well because he's keeping up very well with her random additions. Very rare to see that on SNL where the skits are most of the time rigorously scripted

SNL doesn't use teleprompters. They use cue cards. Yes, they both had a a few slight instances where they seemed to add a little bit off the cuff, but they are in no way winging it. All SNL sketches are scripted. They just happen to be better at not making it obvious that they're reading cards.

I think the reason it's so funny is that she's moved the descriptive phrase to an incorrect place in the sentence. Melissa says, "My friends call me all the time, they say - on the phone - Barb..." when people normally say, "My friends call me on the phone all the time and say..." She turned "on the phone" into an interjection, which is nonsensical. It isn't a common mistake; I don't think I've ever heard it anywhere else, and it struck me how brilliant and distinctive it was when I first heard it. I'll have to work it into a novel some day. Melissa's the real deal.

I love how at points, you can tell that Jason is trying to keep himself from laughing, and in order to do so he simply adds a soft 'smile' as he's responding to her....

she is such a natural comedic actress. she makes it look easy.

This is one of the greatest of all time IMO. Every time I order food that disappoints me I hear the sound she made with the 2/3 day old pizza in my head, and think of a floppy slice of pizza. So many other great moments. Wish we could have seen more of Ms. Kilner... & find out if she ever did make her 2-3 million dollars eating pizza.

These two are two of the best scene partners of all time. I legit cant tell if melissa is improving or not shes so natural and flows through the jokes.

Jason Sudeikis plays the straight man so well, it was great when he finally broke at the end.

i remember watching this skit when it aired and immediately showing to all of my friends. to this day we quote barb kelner every single time we order pizza. one of my all time faves.

Melissa Mccarthy just kills it every time.

This had to only work with Jason. Imagine Bill sitting there, he would've cracked in a minute. Melissa is fucking terrific!

It's so awesome to see Kate McKinnon go from having one line in this sketch to co-starring with Melissa McCarthy in a movie as huge as Ghostbusters. This show really makes people pay their dues!
