    Hi Nick, I have another question for you. I was wondering about the esc punch settings with regards to 13.5 blinky racing. Is it advisable to set the 1st stage and 2nd stage punch settings to max? Given that no boost or turbo timing is used in blinky racing. I'm using a skyrc tor 120a esc, the settings on that gos from very weak to very strong. I was thinking about putting both to very strong. Had a thought that the 1st stage being set to max may create a situation of added heat to the motor. With that I was wondering if being in blinky and using anything less than max wouldn't be of much help given I'm depending on the motor strength and the gearing. What are your suggestions about the punch settings in the esc for 1st and 2nd stage?

    Hi Nick, are these motors capable of running modified settings or are these primarily for running in blinky? I have the Surpass V5R 13.5 and the guys are now interested in running with boost and turbo on, my concern is that these motors were primarily built to run stock spec = blinky imo.

    Hi, Nick. The suggested motor timing for the v5r is 45dg. What I wanted to know is what's the amt beyond the 45dg setting that would return negative performance? For e.g. would a setting up to 50dg be ok? The track I race on has a long straight and I'm using 2s 120c 5200mah batteries. So I'm looking at maintaining a good pace on the straight and at the same time have the battery capacity last the 5-7mins race.

    Hi Nick, love your videos and info. Much appreciated. I've had the red surpass rocket v4 version and has been a great motor. It hit 4100 KV and 32500 rpm coming off at 135 degrees. However I just got the new black V5r and it is now hitting 4000kv with 31000 RPM at 48 timing and getting very hot. Like a 170 degrees after 5 minutes. ( Not normal) My question is this, back in one your videos, and I cannot find it, you mentioned when you have a higher RPM you need to gear smaller or a bigger pinion? Right now I'm running a 23 tooth pinion with in 81 spur. (This is exactly what I ran with my red surpass rocket) Would it be smart to go to a 25 tooth pinion or 21 tooth pinion for that high 32000 rpm 4000 kv? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.

  • @nickadams5411

    @nickadams5411

    Hi Scott. The V5R normally goes faster than the V4, on the same gearing. The KV and RPM on your down on your V5R because of a much stronger torque rotor. The temperature difference should not be that great. So a bit of a mystery. Normally, if the RPM is much higher ,then a smaller pinion may be required to prevent it bogging down. But in your case the RPM is lower, which often requires a larger pinion. But that will probably result in more heating. It depends on size of track and how many slow corners, which will heat the motor. I assume you are running Blinky mode Touring Car. Let me know. Nick

I obviously got a super Torque rotor and in return receive lower RPM. Thanks again.

There's so much to get your head around in Rc lol, tonisport on KZread is a good watch for car set up like spring rate suspension positioning and body positioning. And KZread has some other great and information videos on electronics. But believe it or not I'm still enjoying using some brushed electronics like 14x2, 10x2, 8x3 motor's on old no limit esc's (novak, LRP) on 2s lipo and then playing with handling settings, but i do have multiple brushless esc's and motor's which are definitely more efficient and practical. Another thing to note is when racing or carpark ripping less is more, so most people will be alot faster and smoother with no turbo and lower timing settings as it's more controllerable, turbo will also help wear out belts and other components but the main disadvantage is turbo and high timing will bring the heat with them so fan's are a must for high timing and turbo settings, I do run full timing and turbo on one of my speed run cars but never use a full battery in one go/ usual allow it to cool down even with fans running on motor and esc as just to be safe and keep things running cooler and helping with wearing. Hi Luis. Yes, the rotor weight will affect the response acceleration feel. A lightweight rotor will be more responsive at medium to high rpm. But the performance will also vary with the rotor gauss strength and dimensions. So lightweight may not any better unless it has good gauss. Modified motor rotors do not have the large non magnetic core of the SPEC rotors. Therefore they can be smaller and lighter, but with very strong gauss. They perform very well in SPEC motors, but are not legal.

    Hi. Not sure why SMC dropped out of the SPEC motor race. But it is difficult to gear correctly, and racers tended to overheat it.

    They put out a statement on FB back in July why they were stopping making Motors. With high reving motors you just need gear it lower Here is the link - facebook.com/310025885696564/posts/2565202416845555/

    I have seen them (X Factor) bend in 1/12th pan cars. Possibly because the mounting contact area is so small.

    Hi Nick Do you have suggestion about the gear ratio in V5R 13.5T? I assign 5.2 as gear ratio but the motor temperature still over or close to 70deg which is still too high

    Hi Steven. On thefaster tracks, racers are using 4.6 to 4.8. Is the acceleration and top speed good? If top speed is still good, then try higher FDR. Or you can reduce the endbell timing, but that is for LMP 1/12th. What is your car?

    Hi @@nickadams5411 About accelearation and top speed were both not good enough if compare with other motors. I was tested in 1/10 RC. Below link is my test result for your reference. I also confirm with my friend, he has also met the same problem in V5R 13.5T. In my test result. Maybe the gear ratio assign to 4.6 is the best setting in V5R 13.5T. May I know in LMP 1/12th, are u using 1S or 2S lipo battery? docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19zJc6CJDK2pHtZGU33swNyyeqsk_bkqUlkSEpstg5vM/edit?usp=sharing

    @@ShihWeiLee You are using LMP with 1S? If you are Blinky then the motor would be set at about 45 degrees and arool out of 68mm on a small track, and up to 76mm on larger tracks.

    @@nickadams5411 I am using 1/10 RC, not the LMP with 1S. I am running with 2S lipo and also blinky in 13.5T. From your suggestion, are you suggesting gear ratio between 4.6 to 4.8 and motor set to about 45 degrees?
