The funny part is... this is almost mandatory. JCPenny tried to 'stop scamming the customers' with their honesty policy, which had them adjust their pricing to remove the .x9 system and even make the prices more relatable to their market value, which meant not doing 30% off sales to mask the prices. The result nearly crushed the company at the time and resulted in the one who came up with that idea to be voted off the board. In a twist of irony, humanity needs to be scammed to feel better.

Don't Forget, The Number One On iTunes, "MILK!"
14:25 mark sounds like he could actually be an actor in a reality show like homelander😂
12:17 - Mark questioning if turning light bulbs on would give him a power bill. …While using two computers and a credit card scanner running on the same power the lights use.
"I don't know how to be human" That is the most relatable thing you've said today, Mark.
Imagine: You're walking home from a long day at work. You walk down the streets, grateful that at least your day is nearly over. You feel a buzzing in your pocket, pulling out your phone to see your spouse texting you to buy some eggs and cheese. They want to make breakfast in the morning but forgot they ran out of eggs. You sigh, putting away your phone and going into the nearby grocery store. You get what you need, pulling out your cash instinctively before the cashier tells you the price. Instead of doing so, the cashier just completely goes off on you. 39:17

Mark saying to himself "I don't know how to be human" after successfully failing a social interaction is 100% relatable to me.
Mark immediately questioning how he interacted with that passing woman is precisely how I feel every time I speak to someone new.
Man, the guy running that new little grocery store is quite strange. He ran up to my sister Janet, yelled at her, and then lazer-beamed her into oblivion
Yes. The $X.99 trick does in fact work. Back in the early 2000s, J.C. Penny tried doing away with it and labeling everything to the nearest dollar. They felt like it was deceptive to the customer and wanted to be honest and fair with them. This backfired horribly because people didn't feel like they were getting good deals on the products even though the pricing was only rounded to the nearest dollar. It felt better to get a pair of jeans for $5.99 than it did to get a pair of jeans for $6.00

That's not exactly what happened. They brought in a man to do a whole new marketing thing and the mans business plan was essentially "well most of our shoppers are women and women are idiots so we need to simplify things for them. Things like like sales and coupons and are just too complex for women to understand so we will get rid of them, lower some prices and say launch a campaign saying our pricing is now fair". Then they dramatically slashed in store prices, went from 600+ sales a year to around 12, stopped making and accepting coupons, and were still priced more expensive than other companies. Thats why they crashed so badly.

I always call them by whole number (e.g. 5.99 = 6.00), but my eyes are still having visual input of 5.99, and I need to reinforce the idea of it’s not cheaper😅

@@magic1623 I think that's a little slanderous of whoever did the marketing considering you didn't provide any evidence, nor does that ,,strategy" make any sense. If it is true (wich i doubt), then i will excuse myself to the guillotine.

To be fair, this is also the same country where the 1/3 pounder failed because people thought 1/3 was smaller than 1/4.

Mark’s in his Homelander era 😭
Mark: "Pennies are useless." Also Mark (2 minutes later): "OH NO I GAVE THEM AN EXTRA PENNY!"
I love how mark accurately reenacts the clerk from one of the many store-based horror games by suddenly appearing behind people, yelling very loud, following them down the road, and whispering various things about them as he watches them. lol

I worked retail for 9 hours a day for the last 7 days, and this is how I am choosing to spend my free time Love it
Watching mark jack up the prices to all hell as someone who lives in a "milk is up to 2 dollars!!" Household is very humbling
Mark luring customers to his corner store like Sméagol and then shoot lasers out of his eyes (nice one Lixian) at them when they stride past is hilarious. Can’t wait for part two

34:10 - I once worked in a shop where the register was right next to the door like this. It was terrible, because any time we'd do a transaction, the customer would invariably end up blocking the door so no one else could get in or out until they were done.

Thankfully video games usually allow clipping. But yeah, real people and carts have collision. Whoever designed that shop is insane.

I like how Mark considers robbing a customer and doesn't even try to see if he can overcharge them 😂 Though I guess his price gouging can be considered robbery lmao
