Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet

"You have to encourage innovation. Companies become more conservative in decision making as you grow...be okay with failure and reward effort, not outcomes."
In this View From The Top interview, CEO of Google and Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, speaks to Archana Sohmshetty, MBA '22, about the impact of access to technology, humanity's challenge to harness it, and how Google is sustainably defining the future of work. "When you see the appetite and the desire for people to make their lives better by gaining access to technology, that is what compels me to go beyond." says Pichai.

I like to congratulate Archana for asking very pertinent questions and bringing the best responses from Mr. Pichai. However, I would have liked to know more about Sundar's very humble beginnings. Being a Tamil and having same mother tongue as Sundar I am so proud of him. His statement of reward innovation and effort not outcomes is a profound statement for any large company. It simply means even if a product fails, the innovation should be rewarded. I really don't know how many companies can afford to do this. The last question on Syria is also a profound one and what Sundar replied was shown his honesty and humility. He said he needs to work on it and did not claim they have provided adequate access to those 20 Million people. Open source codes do provide access to the local experts to develop the necessary information as required. This is hugely different to what APPLE does.

I liked the fact that he was quite transparent and honest about many things. A humble beginning and a hard life really brings out the best in people.

The young lady was amazing in the sense that she prepared herself. Sunder always inspires me. I must however say that eventually the world is governed by the US values and that is a little disturbing. While I share most of the US values, I however don't think that they are unquestionable. The US has got it wrong historically many times and recently even more. This bothers me.

Let's not forget that the biggest payouts in the markets don't come from great performances but rather it's great promotions. Stay invested, diversification for streams of incomes is very important And with the right skills and proper understanding of how the market works.
