I think people would have still bought the game if that was the only problems in it. You didnt mention the Woke part, this is why people didnt buy the game. When I saw a clip of the poison ivy changes I almost threw up. Also the whole game a woman is degrading men too and they make it seem like thats awesome. Which then asks the question, who is this game made for, what audience? That's where the sales numbers are great, shows the truth, very few people want backwards values in their lives, and there you go, $200 million loss.

So unless WB let Monolith make another game then we'll never see it again. The reason the batman Beyond game fell through is because Monolith refused to allow another developer to use the system and wanted to make the game themselves, which WB said no too, so the game never got off the ground. It was just pettyness all round.

Game based off a book series turned movie series: Immense success. Game based off a comic universe turned movie series: Complete flop. Both had giant audiences for the source material. One was live service. The other had a hit squad against people playing it from the woke minority. It's crazy how publishers want live service games when they keep failing. Anthem, Babylon's Fall, Marvel's Avengers, Suicide Squad... meanwhile Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3 and other single player games are GOTY. The industry is 'cooked', as they say.

​@@ES21007They are not obligated to anything, the ToS that you accept by default by just playing the game tends to state that they can pull the plug on the game in its entirety out of nowhere for whatever reason as it isn't considered a normal product but a sold service (like subscriptions) that can end at any moment and there's no possibility of either refunds or giving back the experience due to a lot of other legal stuff that you accept by playing. Almost every single big live service does this because otherwise they would be obligated to keep it up or face legal charges which is why they make such extensively stupid ToS almost accounting for everything they can think of including lawsuits. They will kill this game if needed. But most likely will just stop updating it and keep the skin and cosmetic store up because it kinda becomes a sort of tax write off and depending on the game, a secondary avenue for revenue, of course this game is definitely not making any money but actually losing it (dedicated server costs). However they can't just kill it because Execs and investors did pour money into this so they are waiting for a certain level of RoI before calling quits on it. Which could or not permanently jeopardize the studio and maybe result in it closing. People probably did not realize it entirely but this game dying off like this likely means Batman Arkham 3 will NEVER happen if the studio just dies. So the possible players, the fans and anyone who could have bought something related to it had every way of losing. Support this game?, no new Batman game because this cash cow gives no reason to develop anything else but content for the live service. Game dies?, no new games because the studio might close. There was no way of winning, even if the next Batman game is great unless it becomes a massive successful blockbuster the studio will be at risk, not to mention people will be wary of any sort of live-service which will likely be squeezed into the next game they are likely rushing to make now that this one is FUBAR. Also, if said live-service elements do not hold-up then they might also be done because of no source of steady income for the studio to keep afloat. They are almost over and it is the fault of the studio director, the executives and the investors who all kinda agreed upon this direction. And very likely Warner too. But at this point Warner is just a bunch of investor's wishes.

@A1stardan Sure, I guess. According to their wiki page Blackrock is worth 10 billion. You have to multiply 200 million by 50,000 to get 10 bil. So earning 200 mil to them is like earning $1 for someone worth 50,000, which is probably about where I’m at. That being said they probably care about 200 mil more than I care about a dollar. Obviously if the game earned that much money it would mostly go to Warner bros. But still, millions is a drop in the bucket to them no matter if their earning it or losing it.

Idiots in suits with too much money make decisions on what works or not instead of actual game developers and artists. They buy the rights to random shit and make then make the most basic games out of it that appeal to the most amount of people to make the most money out of it. They are taking the formula they have for movies and trying to do the same with games but it's not the same and even in the movie scene it doesn't work. Basically they are so risk averse to spend money on bad ideas that they never actually find a good one. Imagine if they gave 10 indy devs 20 million each we would have 10 games with most of them probably way better than this shit. They spend so much money also on the ingame shops and live service things that use psychology to trick kids into gambling on lootboxes or buying boosts or buffs or any number of things that can dip into peoples wallets after already having bought the game. Devs who have real passion for video games don't work for these assholes so they end up with bad talent making their games.

I wonder if the backlash to the wizard game is what caused this? Like, they had their sensitivity readers write the plot for their next big game because they didn't want to have the Twitter mob blow up at them again, and it led to the game being completely DOA despite spending $200M. I would be surprised if there was really zero connection there. And now unrelated development teams are getting axed left and right at big publishers because investors have been taught that AAA games are now 'risky.'

How many studios do they have to burn out trying to be LoL before they finally realize that you make a great game first and then develop more content for it if people love it, not build a game from the ground up to be a wallet magnet and expect people to just keep spending forever for no particular reason?

I refuse to believe companies are continuing doing shit like this knowing they will lose money. Im guessing they have to be getting paid off some other way

The hit that game took was soooooo catastrophical, they could've generously funded 200 random indie studios, taken 10% of revenue after development with no marketing provided by them and still would've made more money back given the usual success to failure rate indie games have.

You missed the best part: they want to bring the failure of Suicide Squad into Hogwarts Legacy. They looked at the failed game and actually said, "Why didn't Hogwarts make more money? Oh lets make it like Suicide Squad!" These corpos are insane and ruining everything good they can touch

I already said it was going to be a flop years ago when looking for rumors about a new batman game I found out there was gonna be a suicide squad game, You know what I said? "Who would want that game?" There's no way anyone thought that game was gonna be a success. I refuse to believe that people that stupid exist today. I also heard something about a Wonder woman game recently I'm telling you right now that game is going to be a flop as well. People don't care about wonder woman either. Here's a list of DC super hero games that can be a massive success. -Superman -Flash -Batman -Constantine -Booster Gold -Aqua Man All of these have massive potential to be something great. Hell you could get Keanu Reeves to voice Constantine I'm sure he would do it, Booster Gold could have an Amazing story from loser to Booster and tons of cool abilities. Aqua Man start from zero to king of Atlantis, tutorial working at the lighthouse with your dad then learn about you being Atlantean and go from there tons of underwater exploration could be a great change of pace. Superman and Flash are two games that people say are not possible indie devs and triple a devs have already made games that do exactly what these characters do so YES it is possible and if there's concerns about graphics being too demanding then stop stuffing the engine with new bloated technology and focus on attaining decent graphics and worry about hyper optimization and gameplay get Witcher 3 levels of graphics people will be satisfied OR go full Superman the Animated series style and don't cry about "muh ultra realism". Batman obviously people want a new Arkham game (Suicide Squad is NOT canon it's provably true). Arkham knight had a massive teaser with the true ending you could go that route where Batman is living in a tiny shack basically without his mansion or toys and he has to build up his arsenal all over again OR give us a whole new Batman universe Do what Arkham Asylum did. (Don't do a VR experience and expect people to treat is the same as they did the mainline series.)

just checked right now. Hogwarts legacy had 6000 players online with an 8.2k 24 hour peak, Suicide Squad has 140 players with a 178 player 24 hour peak. Guess which one's the live service game and which is the older, single player title with no real monetisation. Just to further drive it home in a funny way. Arkham Knight, the last main single player Batman title and released 9 years ago still has 1600 players right now. Then again that game does have so many obnoxious and annoying Riddler trophies it's probably taken all this time for some of the players to actually collect them all.

Who would have thought abunch of B villians killing heroes like Superman and Batman would not have gone over well. Like seriously, what drugs are these executive producers are on ??

Ths saddest part is that they could have avoided this by just not making it canon to the arkhamverse. Gotham knights was bad but at least you could separat it and view it as its own thing. This one is bad and devalues what came before.

To be honest it probably was delayed to add all the stuff that ultimately lead to its downfall.

In the span of a year Warner Bros released 2 very high profile games: 1 was a single player game with no multiplayer, dlc or battle pass and it sold 24 million copies globally generating well over a billion in revenue. The other was a games-as-a-service multi-player focused game with a battle pass and always online that was rejected by the fans and as a result it flopped horribly. Now guess which direction Warner Bros is taking with their video games going forward based on the two outcomes of these games 😢

I really like to see what those 112 players life look like. Like so many games and you still playing this game is something special

I get the feeling that the Possibly the same thing that happened to Marvel's Avengers will happen to Suicide Squad kill the justice league, pretty much like after another year and few months the game will probably get shut down, they'll give Everything to everyone for free while giving the bird to those who paid hundreds of dollars just to get the skins and such and so on! But who knows if that'll even happen
