My husband and I met in the service. We were both planning to make a career out if, but he was sent to Iraq and I was sent to a stateside post. He was gone for 18 months and when he came back we had two months together and I was deployed while he stayed stateside. We both made the decision to not reenlist as it was no life. This song resonates with me for all the reasons you stated. Still makes me stop and take a breath. The longing was so palpable you could feel it in your bones.

Journey is a great American rock band formed in 1973 by former members of Santana, Steve Miller Band & Frumious Bandersnatch. Journey had their biggest commercial success between 78-87, when Steve Perry was lead vocalist. They had so many hits including "Don't Stop Believin'", "Open Arms", "Who's Crying Now", "Still They Ride", "Wheel in the Sky", "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)", "Faithfully", "Send Her My Love" & "After the Fall".

Truly, my favorite version of the band was before Perry joined in 1977 or so. I saw them live at Foothill College in 1975. They were an awesome progressive rock band with 3 great albums with hits like LOOK INTO THE FUTURE, ON A SATURDAY NIGHT and much more (LOVE the instrumental TOPAZ). They had so much more potential in this direction. But then their producer made them take on Perry, and they became a commercial pop success as the producers hoped. But now they play sweet songs instead of bad-ass rock songs, so even though I like the new hits I consider them second class to the original band. THIS is the sht... kzread.info/dash/bejne/daGqspOhlLyxftY.html And I consider this their greatest work ever: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z51nmtiuYKuzprA.html

Of course it was for his wife, but, he wrote it for all of them and it ends up being for every musician and everyone who travels for work and misses their loved ones. ❤️ Every once in a while a legendary song really is written in 20 minutes.

My late husband was a truck driver. He would be gone for 30 days to 3 months at a time. I was left to raise our 3 sons alone while he was away. He would tell me that he dedicated this song to me...often. He was away because of his family's needs...but we had to make that sacrifice of life without him. This song really brought out the feels for me too. Thank you for this reaction video. Y'all are amazing.

Hmm, I look at it like this... Faithfully talks about the struggles of maintaining a relationship despite the demands of being a musician. When You Love a Woman is more an observational approach to what makes love. Send Her My Love is about the regret of losing love. All truly excellent songs, but for my money, I'll go with Stay Awhile as journey's best love song, and one of the best all-time - an absolutely gorgeous song that from start to finish that expresses love in a beautiful way. From the desperate desire to just be with that special woman, to the expression of trying to impress and win her. Then the powerful, climactic crescendo at the end, the strings come in, and the rich harmony's culminate perfectly...

I agree Journey has had a few lead singers but Perry’s voice is what brought them to their highest peak for hits. The singers after him all seemed to have the same raspy voice but Steve Perry is one of a kind. @@persiascott2490 Journey's first hits were duos with founding member Greg Rollie and Steve Perry. The three initial albums released by the band were very different in style. As much as his voice, Perry's song writing with Neil Schon changed Journey's popularity. Also, if you listen to Steve's first two albums with the band, there is no rasp in his voice. But back then, you toured to sell records, and their management toured the crap out of his voice. By the end of their last tour, he was fried. He was amazing.

An absolutely heart wrenchingly beautiful song. I remember when the song first came out and I saw the video for the first time, I was touched by the shots of the band and the absolute human essence captured in the juxtaposition of the shots during the video. They weren’t just performers, they were a bunch of guys on the road missing their families/loved ones. And the two most poignant pictures were the band members Climbing the stairs onto a plane and drummer, Steve Smith, holding the carrier with his son, as he climbed the stairs onto the plane while the song plays, “they say that the road ain’t no place to start a family” . Followed by a picture of a long-haired girl in a photograph that pans out to keyboardist Jonathan Cain staring in the mirror where the picture is hung while the song plays “right all the while it’s been you and me.” Jonathan Cain wrote the song, inspired by, and dedicated to the girl in the photo… His wife.

This is one of those songs that you NEVER change the station when it comes on, and you WILL sit in the car in the driveway until it's finished, drumming on the steering wheel.

I believe Steve Perry wrote this for his wife. I was 12 when this came out but seems like I remember hearing that. It's about life on the road with a band and how lonely it can be. It was also the anthem for Friday night "Couple's Only" roller skating! Damn I miss those times. Glad I got to experience it.

One of the underrated lines of this song is "I get the joy of re-discovering you", which references to coming together after being apart so long. What a great silver-lining outlook.

I was 21 when I went to see them in concert in 1981 when they were in their prime when they did their "Escape" tour. Loverboy was the opening act...."Everybody's Working For The Weekend" was their biggest hit at that time which is a fun song. But the Journey concert was one of the best nights of my life! So much fun with great music and seeing and hearing one of the best power house voices in music. I'm 64 now and they are still one my top three bands ever. All their #1 hits were out when this concert tour was going. Neal Schon is the lead guitarist,he use to be play for Santana before starting the band Journey . Neal is one of the best guitarist and him and Steve Perry were a perfect team. Steve Smith was the drummer in this song. You should hear their song "Still They Ride"....such a very relaxing and such a beautiful song sung by Steve Perry. And even though Journey is still around, it's with a different singer now...a wanna be sounds like Steve Perry...but he's not Steve Perry....Steve Perry was the best of the best in male lead singer voices. The notes he could reach and carry out and with emotion is so exceptional. For me Journey is not the REAL Journey without Steve Perry as the lead vocal. If he's not singing the songs...i'm not interested. "Wheel In the Sky" is a really great song and very upbeat and such great music. "Lights" is another nice song which is a tribute to their hometown San Francisco. 😊❤

Is this really your first Journey reaction since May?? Been a minute! You have so much further down this rabbit hole to go! You got to do "Lights", "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'", "Any Way You Want It", "Who's Crying Now", "Open Arms", "Separate Ways", and perhaps their most famous song "Don't Stop Believin'". Was there a voice in that era more recognizable than Steve Perry's? I don't think so! (OK, maybe Steven Tyler.) P.S. I don't think you've done another Phil Collins song other than "In the Air Tonight" (twice). Might I suggest "Sussudio" or "I Wish It Would Rain Down" or possibly "Against All Odds"?
