My father was a police officer for 25 years 17 of them as the chief of police. The city he worked for about 5 years into his stent as the chief got a new mayor. They were cool with each other until approximately 3 years later one of his officers stopped the mayors son for a DUI. Sometime around 3AM my dad gets a call from the Mayor, she informs him of the stop and “demanded” he tell his officers to let them go and allow the mayor to drive the vehicle to her home. My father called the officer who initiated the stop and asked him for the full story. He explained it was a DUI stop, not only was the driver clearly intoxicated, there was an open container in the vehicle. He told the officer to proceed as usual and called the mayor back. He informed the mayor under no circumstances was she going to receive special treatment. At this point the mayor said to him “You have just made a big mistake against a very powerful enemy. Watch your back.” The silver lining to the story is that was on a recorded line and the mayor ultimately ended up resigning in disgrace. But the moral of the story is how disturbingly common these types of things happen. It’s sad and disgusting the amount of corruption there is in politics and law enforcement.

Intimidation is powerful when this is your home town, you have a mortgage and a family and a potential black mark on your record. I can understand how this happens, I have seen intimidation in a few workplaces, at some point, there is a tipping point, where being fired is better than being employed.

She can't be removed because the whole council has problems. Sandra was the prosecuting DA for a number of "accidental" deaths of this same police force. Instead of collecting evidence and building a case against the police, she supported the defense of the police. This includes the death of Daniel Prude 3 years ago. Prude appeared to be strangled by police on camera. So it seems this was a case of "you scratch my back, I'll scratch your" . But Sandra felt that getting the speeding ticket was not getting "scratched"

In New York, it is a felony - that's up to 7 years in prison, up to 5 years of probation, a fine up to $5,000, or any combination of those penalties. She needs to prosecute herself to the fullest extent of the law for her felony offense. I didn't bother with the lesser charge of reckless driving. Although it, too, results in a criminal record, it is a slap on the wrist compared to fleeing/eluding.

I'm a paramedic and an emergency nurse, which means that this "brotherhood" also applies to me. But the thing is, _we should be held to an even higher standard of adherence than the general public_ . Cops, judges, and prosecutors should meticulously adhere to the laws that they are tasked with enforcing (unless they're responding code 2 to a call). It's absolutely crucial that those who are tasked with upholding the law and administering justice are in no way _above the law_ . And emergency/critical care medical providers (including ER & ICU staff) and fire fighters should be driving extremely carefully, because we know exactly how bad the consequences of reckless driving can be first hand. When you've seen literal decapitations of innocent victims due to the reckless driving of another person and run codes of children ejected from vehicles due to a reckless parent, then you have *absolutely no business* subjecting the public to that type of driving. Cops also work these horrific accidents, so they really have double the accountability expectation.

I'm a retired SoCal cop. Had the Mayor show up on a call. I called my supervisor and did what SHE told me to do. The Mayor was angry and made it known how much he didn't like what I did or rather what I didn't do. That supervisor couldn't wait to throw me under the bus despite the fact I had done what she directed me to do. Side note...ethical officers rarely make it above the rank of Sergeant.

"THE" DA. I noted too on both released body cameras how the conversations with her were more guarded, and notably that the Lieutenant had an off camera long conversation with her. It's telling how little she respected the Officer. I also found it questionable why she pulled into the garage and went into her home, while telling the officer to get out. I've seen some question whether she was DWI and stashed whatever she had in the garage or home.

Retired now, but still remember in my first rookie year as a LEO pulling over a top level state administrator for ample signs of DUI. He also pulled the 'power act' considering himself above any laws. My ethics were, and still are, steadfast without any 'give'. He was genuinely shocked and in disbelief when I arrested him, and in seeing his intimidation efforts went nowhere on me. It was hard to see this 'officer' be so intimidated and to 'cave' to this wench, when he should have gone hands-on, cuffing her, and arresting her the moment she first refused to obey his lawful commands. His Sgt & Lt also 'lack a pair' and allow themselves to be led by the nose by those with 'political pressure'. Disgusting.

Her actions were beyond gross, and I'm glad that the city council called AG for investigation of her conduct. When the supervising officers arrived it should've been a misdemeanor issued for disobeying lawful order. Not doing so sends a message to citizens that vote for her that while they should get a ticket if warranted, she should not. Gross abuse of power.

Perhaps Ms. Doorley should reacquaint herself with section 1102 of the state vehicle and traffic code : No person shall fail or refuse to comply with any lawful order or direction of any police officer or flagperson or other person duly empowered to regulate traffic. Or perhaps article 270.25 of the state penal code A person is guilty of unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree when, knowing that he or she has been directed to stop his or her motor vehicle by a uniformed police officer or a marked police vehicle by the activation of either the lights or the lights and siren of such vehicle, he or she thereafter attempts to flee such officer or such vehicle by driving at speeds which equal or exceed twenty-five miles per hour above the speed limit or engaging in reckless driving as defined by section twelve hundred twelve of the vehicle and traffic law. Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree is a class A misdemeanor
