Today we set to work on the first round of weight-saving mods on the drift Subaru. in about 20-30 mins using nothing but a few sockets you can easily get 50kg out of the back of your car.
Craig from TFS Racing recommended we get weight out of the car so we don't have so much mass for the diffs and driveshafts to shift. It's beginning to look like that will be a real risk for the Driftbaru!

Interior removal is so much fun.
I want to save weight but it like everything is so light anyway lol Thanks for doing this
If you can find cheap lighter rear wheels it will reduce your rotational inertia helping your diff out abit I think !!

I'm assuming that car just has the R160 diff from the WRX right now? They can take some abuse, but I was amazed how much the R180 can handle. If you check out my LS Swapped Legacy video, that's just running an STI R180 diff and handling 400+ HP/TQ from the engine which is nuts. I too love working on Subaru. 10, 12, 14 for most jobs. 17 and 19 for bigger stuff. I do need to get those trim pliers though. Wondrous things! That's actually pretty impressive weight loss. Fun video guys. Look forward to the skids.

This is just the R160 but theres slim chance of it failing with the amount of welding big dave did to it. Driveshafts on the other hand, may be an issue. The trim pliers were like 5 quid! Bargain!

Is there reason other than weight and diff access to pulling the boot floor out ? Hopefully it's doesn't twist like a pretzel on you....

Just for weight - but we're going to hold off for now. Big Dave can do a diff swap in 20 mins, and the car still needs to pass an annual MOT! Need to keep the floor for now

Not even a little bit! There were too many other upgrades happening at the same time
For any Americans who don’t know how much 50 kg is it’s 110 lbs should be able to get another 25kg/55lbs with Spare tire light weight batter and lighter wheels

@@vPerformance most driving is local so you can just call for a tow so if you go on a long trip or somewhere remote then just throw the spare snd some tools in the trunk for that trip.

@@vPerformance yes they are, they were mouldy and are so slow to retract, would be good to change them to one's that work properly
