Long ago I decided to use multiple DAWs, because, why not? So I use FL studio primarily for 90% of things and Studio One only when I need to score orchestral material for trailers and film related projects. I used Ableton in the past when I was playing in clubs and FL Studio didn't have performance mode. Also used Protools for foley editing (awful job BTW, protools is great for that) I just take the strength of each when I needed it.

thanks for the video. i just purchased s1 and coming from pro tools im like this is by far the most simplest and user friendly daw ive used. it has a small learning curve and its only taken me a week to get up and running the way i like to work and one thing i had to realize is that this is not pro tools. it has the pro tools shortcut keys and i selected it but i changed it back to s1 because im like i need to learn s1 shortcuts and now that im learning them they are much better to me. not sure what the ceo is talking about but i love it just the way it is as a new user. i will never go back to pro tools.

I’m also on the fence too about upgrading from Studio One 5. Not sure yet if the new features are worth the upgrade for my needs as version 5 still does what I need. I certainly disagree with the Fender CEO saying Studio One is difficult or even complicated. I wouldn’t say it’s the most intuitive, but not at all complicated. I’ve got several DAWs in use currently, and IMO one of the easiest and most underrated is MixCraft 9 Pro Studio by Acoustica.

I was hoping for live loops with great midi foot controller support (ideally Morningstar) so that S1-6 would be the best guitar looper ever. Detect the beat and auto smooth the loop points, great effects chains on tap, etc. Seems like a natural integration to me, Fender. I do like the UI updates, not huge but very nice.

Great video. I agree with you, I would also expect them to have a live looping feature. If they can't develop a decent live looping tool, then they should at least include Ableton Link to use both DAWs together and get the best of both worlds. This has been highly requested for a long time.

I started using Studio One 2.5 years ago. I really like it but I have a free copy of Ableton Live Lite 11 from buying a new Arturia midi keyboard. I plan to learn it to see if it’s worth it to upgrade to a better version. I think in modern music it makes sense to work with multiple DAWs to change things up.

I have been Studio One since SO3 and am trying out the Demo version of Studio One 6 and I am hella impressed, the new workflow is really nice as it simplified it. My cousin recently swapped from ProTools to Studio One 5 Professional in his studio after trying out Studio One 4 on my laptop. He says it just works, and does it better. My other cousin who writes operas composes on paper and when it comes to finishing it and finalizing it, he uses Presonus Notation and Studio One. He composed his grammy nomination in it.

I find it easy to listen to what you say, really educational! Thanks! I would be delighted if you could make really short informational videos, like how to do various basic things when working with Studio One, for real beginners and people like me who love to do it but don't understand how to use the program to the fullest. Like when you're in the middle of the process and just need to know one thing quickly to be able to continue working, if you understand! For example, I want to learn how to reverse a crash or a piece of a vocal track, or how to save your favorite sounds in a separate folder. There are far too many chatty videos that never get to the heart of the matter, take forever to watch and then you still haven't learned anything! As long as this post-thanks for the word!😃

You're right, someone did comment about that. And initially, I kindly replied. I mentioned that I made a mistake, I overlooked the fact that automation had already been implemented on the project page. And I also mentioned that this person was wrong about live looping features (clip launching); that still has not been added to S1. But this person kept sending comments that were not so nice. To me that is herassment, so yes I blocked this person.

@@SupercyMusic Well, there's indeed clip launching functionality on Studio One's Show Page. - Different playback modes (continue section, loop section, loop & continue, stop at and, skip) - Sync Modes (1 Bar, 2 Bars, Section etc.) - Custom actions (cue next section, cue section X, toggle loop/continue, stop at end of bar, next patch) - Patches (effect changes, activate/mute track, instrument patch changes) - Remote apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android Not even Ableton Live or Bitwig Studio provide that out of the box. So in case you're talking about live performance, I wonder what exactly you're missing.

  • @SupercyMusic

    @SupercyMusic

    Жыл бұрын

@Lukas Ruschitzka All great features, but not exactly what I mean. There still is no way to record individual instruments into a "clip" in real time and then playback those clips (individually), like is possible in Ableton, Bitwig, Logic etc. The show page is truly amazing. And with (among other things) the features you just mentioned it seems like a relatively small step to also implement the features I'm looking for. Which makes it all the more disappointing to me that they didn't. And as I mentioned before, if they would add those features, Studio One would be the absolute king of live performance imo.

Nice vid man. Of course it depends what you want. I rarely use live looping but was waiting a long time for decent implementation of a proper video timeline feature. V6 has delivered and it was perfectly timed. I’ve been using Logic and it let me down badly (not for the first time) by failing on a project I was about to deliver. For some reason you cannot access the autosaves unless you’re already IN the project! So, having used Pro Tools, Cubase, Nuendo, Studio One, Reaper and then Logic….. thanks to v6 I’m now back with S1 again. I also love Reaper but only for specific stuff, not day to day creating. Anyhoo, all I’m saying, horses for courses my friend.

The simplification of StudioOne seems to have come through in the templates and the ability to limit what relevant functions you see in different workflows. I think that's a great compromise because they didn't dumb-down StudioOne at all, they just made it optionally cleaner to interact with.

Hi, I’m curious what you would go to. Since you seem to be interested in live looping, I assume you’re looking at Ableton Live? As far as the Fender CEO’s comments, I would think making it simpler would be a way for newbies (like me) to be able to get up and running more quickly (like training wheels). Then, when you are comfortable lettIng go, have the full SO capabilities available. I don’t know, but that’s what I’d imagine. No DAW will be perfect for anyone. They do seem to have a dilemma between adding features and ease of use. Personally, I like what SO is doing, but everyone has their own preferences in features and workflow and I am interested in other perspectives. Thanks!

Thank you for your fair assessment of Studio one 6. I started with this Daw about 4 months ago and find it one of the easier ones to work with and build tracks. This new release was kept quiet until it’s release. It looks more like a Studio 5.6 rather than a new platform. I am also “underwhelmed” with this new offering. In addition having to fork out another $150 after purchasing the professional version so recently seems unfair. I contacted PreSonus and they told me too bad we don’t have any grace periods. Poor business model. I also purchased Cubase at the same time which did upgrade me to their new, really upgraded 12 at no cost. I will spend more time learning this platform before upgrading and giving more money to PreSonus.

In Cubase we have the built in channel strip processers (like compressor, deesser, EQ, tape emulation and more) on top of the regular settings you find in Studio One's Channel Overview however.

Thanks for your opinion. When you find that perfect DAW, please let me know, even with that perfect DAW. I have some features that perfect will not have. I am a Studio One user, and many features are helpful in my productions. I have almost all DAWs for windows, but I keep returning to Studio, where six of my albums have been made available on streaming services. I believe more features are coming soon, like adding CLAP (CLever Audio Plugin), as U-He, Bitwig, and many others, using open source format as a standard for developing their liberal licenses. CLAP is open source and released under the MIT license: No fees, memberships, or proprietary license agreements are required before developing or distributing a CLAP-capable host or plug-in, and the license never expires. In a nutshell, there are no entry hurdles for developers, and plenty of open source projects already benefit from CLAP. Be encourage.

Hi Percy! Wolf

If anyone want live looping and a good daw. Choose Logic or Ableton. But for my case - I love the workflow that comes with S1 and I like the new features that comes with 6. And by the way... Any DAW User has tons of plugins. All my Pals using Farbfilter for all - not me. Using the Stock EQ's in Logic and in S1 too... I don't need the new Icons for tracks... I've always considered a DAW as being the digital equivalent of a recording studio not a live instrument. If you want live looping isn't that what products like Ableton is for? I think Presonus has to decide who they want to prioritise, serious recording/production musicians or DJ style 'looping' producers because I don't think ultimately you can do both. Maybe they could have a separate Studio One product for the latter... S1DJ?

Call me crazy, but I consider DAWs to just be one tool of the many tools required to make good music. The main question should always be "how much good music is being made?" It's good to keep in perspective that there were hit songs made with 4 track reel to reel tape recorders back in the day. The reason I switched over to Studio from Pro Tools is because PT was getting in the way of me making good music. I found too much of my energy spent trouble shooting system crashes, trying to make non Avid hardware compatible with Avid, uninstalling forced updates that were incompatible with PT, etc. I can live without a few of the shiny new features as long as the DAW just works, and gets out of my way and let's me make music.

I was initially unimpressed with the Studio One 6 update, and I considered just moving to Bitwig as my main DAW (but you know what's up with that, just saw your other video). Back to Studio One... as a long time user, I went ahead and updated to v6, and I gotta say, I really like a lot of the new stuff. That lyric track quickly became something I don't want to live without. Fader flip is insanely useful as well. Bottom line, is I'm 100% staying with Studio One, and not just because of the recent Bitwig debacle. I actually JUST bought Bitwig less than two weeks ago. I'm a very new user, so this new Bitwig drama has me really rethinking that move, but I love the DAW, so I'm torn. I've decided to just use Bitwig as is as a secondary DAW and creative tool, and probably just never update again. But, yeah, Studio One, still killer. Don't give up on them. This is a solid update. Not flashy, maybe not exciting, but it's still a rock solid linear DAW with a zillion bits of goodness packed inside it.

what Bitwig debacle? if you mean bitwig deciding to give away what they were considering an ancillary product (and IMHO they were entirely correct) for free - then I wouldnt call that a debacle. It was a rarely seen customer gift. Would you rather get something cool for free (Bitwig) or some lame stuff you don't even want for money? But I really like and use both products. Just enjoying my Bitwig now - a bit more than my previous main lover. I hope they both prosper.

Well, every DAW is very good in something. In my opinion S1 ist the best DAW for mixing and mastering. And if you want something good for production, then Ableton Live is your choice. Is hard to find a DAW that is good in everything, quick ideas, productions, mixing, mastering, user friendly and so on, that's why almost everyone that I know uses 2 ore 3 DAWs, one for productions and one for mixing and so one. I use Ableton Live for production and S1 for mixing and mastering and after I tried all the DAWs on the market, I think that these are the best choice. Btw, I tried Reaper, I kinda liked it but I found it way to complicated. I mean you need years just to customize your workflow and time is money, we don't have so much time just to add plugins and customize, we just want a DAW that's user friendly, has almost everything and is good to go.

If you think the latest Studio One upgrade is "underwhelming" pour your heart and soul (and money, money, money) into Reason. YIKES! Talk about disappointment. Reason Studios has been promising Native Apple M1 compatibility for a couple of years now, and, finally, it works with Rosetta and...who cares? With Studio One 6, I admit, I've never needed or wanted track/channel icons. The vocoder is a yawner and I've had FabFilter for dynamic EQ and de-essing for some time. I don't know that I've ever opined for a Channel Overview. We'll see. Still, having tried all of the DAW's (except Pro Tools which is beyond the strain on my pocketbook), Studio One still rises to the top for me. And, yes, I upgraded, knowing that when that one day comes around when I need one of the new features (surprise of surprises) it'll be there for me. Besides, underwhelming seems to be kinda the new normal with upgrades. The 21st century appears to have unleashed a raging "meh" factor.

I love S1 but that Fender CEO's comment amplifies a growing feeling I've had for a while: it feels more and more like an unwelcoming place for electronic-sound design musicians. I still love the workflow for backend mixing and mastering and cannot see abandoning it anytime soon. But if Leo Fender II (or whoever is the king here) wants to make it the next Garage band or safeplace for tech-fearful classic rock guitarists, I'll try a DAW like Bitwig. Perhaps it's a better less-corporate fit... Peace

I get the same feeling from this video that I get from some posts on Facebook. Which is "really? That's your reasoning for leaving?". For example: They added track presets, that's great, but there is a DAW that already had that. Seriously? So you wait for that because you want it, then when it is there (and most other DAWs don't have it even) that's when you become disappointed? Weird reasoning. That seems like being critical for the sake of being critical. And as you can see in the comments, someone who did upgrade found that by using the new features they showed how useful they actually are. On paper they may seem no more than ok, or even less, but when used the small thought out details show to be great workflow enhancers. Also, "underwhelming" is always something that's said on a new whole version update. Always. And it's always because people don't understand how this works. During the update cycle oif this version a lot of new features will be added with a major one at the x.5 update. Always. So from x.0 to x.5 many features are added, all included in the current upgrade. So yes, if you look at all the features added in version 5 then it may seem that version 6 had very little. But now look at version 5.0, the first one in that cycle. That shows a whole different picture. So yes, your expectations were too high, or too much that of course they should have added what you personally were asking for. Every upgrade of any software will have people disappointed because they were hoping for something specific. Then another point you brought up: "The CEO of Fender thought Studio One is too complicated". That is actually not the correct interpretation of that interview. What was said is that Fender has the vision of a very basic app for guitar players to quickly lay down ideas. More like Garage Band for example. It's about a new app, not about simplifying Studio One! This was majorly misrepresented in that interview, or rather the report of it. And you can see in this new release that this whole idea that Fender wants to simplify Studio One is completely debunked. Studio one wasn't simplified, Studio One wasn't stripped down, nothing. It had features ADDED.

Logic has the same feature as the channel overview and it's called the inspector, a channel overview on the left side of the screen, also reaper can do this as well but it needs to be manually added. But the track record of Fender isn't good for anything outside of guitars and guitar based products like amps. They killed an IEM company a few years ago that was on its way to being a major player in the in ear monitor space by rebranding their products as Fender IEMs and making them with cheaper plastic materials and lower end drivers and balanced armatures. But I think fender wants to sell 2 input and 2 output audio interfaces and digital mixers not DAWs and their track record would show that. But I hope for the best but they have already killed most of the high end studio products like the Quantum 4848 lately and it won't be long before the studiolive mixers have a fender logo on them.

I was hoping for live looping.. But it wasn't a deal breaker for me. I have a looper and can always use Ableton for looping if that's what I want to do. That said. Just because a feature is added that was in other DAWs for years doesn't make them bad.. "Reaper had that for years" So? Good.. they added in studio one so now I don't have to change DAWs to get the feature. It's not like they said "We invented this" and we could see they simply copied it from another DAW. I don't see any DAWs copying the ease of drag and drop Studio One has but if they did I'd be like "Good.. great ideas should be copied!"

@@Valgant They added quite a bit.. Granted just a little more would have made it seem like a full upgrade, like looping, or Atmos/surround editing. Adding the video, and lyric tracks was pretty good. Oh and when the president of Fender said he wanted it to be simplified, well it looks like 6 is simplified already. With new templates and walkthroughs to help new people get going easy. They don't need to release a light/simple version.
