Many years ago I moved from Sonor to Logic because I moved to a Mac. I used Logic for a years until I bought a Presonus audio interface and got Studio One free. I tried it out and was hooked. All these years I did not know it was cross platform. Thanks for that info. I’ve not used Macros but will check those out too. Great video, thanks. I’m going to go install S1 on my Windows laptop.

2:40 Reaper has been doing macros for over 15 years as well, and it has the most powerful macro editor I've ever seen, it even has something called cycle actions which S1 doesn't have. 4:02 S1 isn't the only one who does track templates, Reaper does it too, and IMO it does it better because you can turn those templates into a macros in Reaper as well and do a lot more crazier things. Nice video but as someone who've used Reaper and S1, S1 is a great daw and has a lot going on but IMO almost everything you mentioned, Reaper does those as well and in most cases does it much better than S1. I'd say S1 looks a lot better than Reaper out of the box, and it's more intuitive than Reaper, but the flexibility and customization of Reaper is on another level. But at the end of the day they are both great daws and download and try them both and use the one you prefer, it's a good thing to have a choice, and we aren't all stuck to using pro tools 🤣.

I’ll need to revisit Reaper. It’s such a powerful DAW and I didn’t know about cycle actions or macros! I use my StreamDeck to create cycle actions for macros. I can stack macros together using the StreamDeck. I will say reaper is like windows. Full control, but not super intuitive

@@ProducingInTheBox Yeah, Reaper is very powerful, IMO S1 looks better and is a bit more intuitive out of the box, but Reaper wipes the floor when it comes to powerful and flexibility. And cycles actions and macros (custom actions) aren't the same thing in Reaper. Custom actions are the same thing as macros in S1 but cycles actions are completely different which S1 doesn't have, you can do multiple things with cycle actions by the same hotkey but change the actions based on the condition. Also, not sure about the windows not being super intuitive lol, windows is the most intuitive OS in the world.

I’m a logic guy and I’ve been so since version seven of logic. And I really do like things about Studio one, and I find the macro to be truly the best feature that I can find in studio one, but a lot of of the other things you pointed out I just don’t think they’re necessary Because I’ve been producing for forever. I’ve gotten used to my workflow and logic and ProTools from many years in the studio. This seems like more steps in distractions for me. I find that it works better when it comes to music if you go down the road of less is more, more more than more distractions slow down even though you’re going faster it’s almost like you have adding more steps unnecessarily and that song that took five days could’ve only taken three days instead. Not bashing your thought again I think Studio is phenomenal, but if you’ve already learned something else and you’re really deep in it, I don’t think it’s a great idea to jump around and switch a bunch of times unless you absolutely find something vital in another program. I’ve used cakewalk. I’ve used QBase I’ve used logic pro tools, and Studio. One logic was the best one for me. I really like your videos and I can’t wait to watch more

Yes... Logics workflow in midi composing and producing wayyy better and much faster than in S1. Studio One lags enormously in sample content. S1 onstock plugins are very weak. S1 is a boring lame dog and it´s flat 2D GUI is it's terrible when you're working with a lot of tracks. Logic is way more inspiring in all areas.

  • @Plastidon

Even though there are things in logic that I like more than S1 , one of the things I have asked for them to add in logic for 12 years now , is follow track arm record , there are so many time per a session where you go to record on another track , and logic will record over the previous track you were on , S1 has that as a selectable feature . It’s truly frustrating though that both logic and studio one have really poor cpu performance, compared to reaper and cubase . Especially logic which is same eco system as apple silicon wtf .

I made the same switch several years ago. Studio One's Drag and drop ease of use hooked me -- even in the early versions what lacked some essential features -- and the growing feature set has kept me happy. I think not being bogged down by legacy code and UI like Logic and other old DAWs are makes it easier for S1 to improve more rapidly. (Now, if only they can improve their clunky documentation to keep pace! The manual feels like something from the 90's.) Not only is Studio One's workflow faster, it is a lot more intuitive. It just feels like a creative tool for musicians, rather than a computer app designed by software engineers.

I’m testing the trial and just for Dolby Atmos alone, S1 is way better. I couldn’t even monitor my Atmos tracks in Logic because of the known track sync problem. It would bounce correctly, but how could I mix blind with flaming tracks and echos? I was worried about vocal comping, but S1 is almost the same as Logic now. The remote app on iPad is legendary with lyrics that follow along and surround panning. You can also switch the keyboard shortcuts to Logic. For $175 I’m not seeing any reasons not to switch. Besides, I’ll still have Logic.

I Love, Love, Love Studio One since v1. But there's a couple of things that I still feel they need to change. First is the way I hear and feel the panning on Studio One. I know we now have three settings to choose from. But I often feel that the panning in Studio One is a little weird comparing it to other daws. The second thing is that every time I compare a mix done in Studio One vs mix done in Pro Tools I feel that the mix in Pro Tools sounds better to my ears. Lastly, I often get audio drop outs when mixing and playing back the project and also when pressing command/s to save the project the music or whole project make a weird sound.

This crash I had just saved 10 mins before, did a shit load of tweaking 4 synths I had spent the past hour setting up as a base for, for sound design. Tweaked them all to get sounds spot on and it crashed. Literally the most important 10 minutes that I put a shit ton of effort in to to sculpt the sounds - gone. What is the arrangement? None, no stress on it, no midi, no audio, an empty page. Just 4 empty instrument tracks, no mixer effects, nothing. I could have opened over 30 of that VST in Reason and it wouldn't have crashed. I got S1 5 as a free upgrade because I bought S1 4 at the end of its life. 5 was unusable it crashed so often. All of my software is legal, this isn't any try before you buy shit causing a crash. All my plugins, DAW's, everything legit. So obviously with v5 being so bad I rolled back to v4. V4 still crashes all the time. If you don't hit save every minute, you're at risk of losing stuff. I tried v5 again after years thinking they probably fixed it by now but no. It's a mess still. What do we have now? V6. They left v4 a mess, v5 a big steaming mess and instead of fixing those they made v6. Not a chance in hell I am upgrading with them and I need some functions that aren't in the other versions. Now I need to find £300 so I can crossgrade to Cubase. So to save £200 I bought S1 at £300 instead of Cubase at £500, when I get money to crossgrade it's gonna have cost me £600. Should have just bought Cubase in the first place. Don't waste your money on Studio One. Pre Sonus do not give a shit about you. Go with a company that isn't going to sell you wank DAW. Presonus are dirty cash grabbing, rip off bastards.

This is a fatal mistake. :) ain't NO way S1 beats logic. Just the native sounds library of Logic blowS everything out of the water, let's not talk about the Sampler and Alchemy...stop...smoking!!!

This is your fault because even though you knew you didn't have a long-term processor on Apple, you still made an account in Logic Pro, another scam videos.

@@ladislaufazakas8980 logic and mac is great. I have nothing against either. At the time, my PC outperformed my MacBook. I mentioned that clearly in the video. For me, that’s what worked. It’s not for everyone. It’s why I switched. Not why anyone else should. Everyone else should pick their own daw. I just hope I can help someone like me.
