PreSonus Studio One 6 is a beast. Presonus wanted me to try Studio One 6 as part of my journey of trying every DAW out there. So many of the hurdles I encountered are gone. The search functions work very well. Studio One 6 just overall is a very snappy and fast DAW. Meant to give you every tool at your fingertips. Next, I need to try editing drums and actually recording a session with Studio One 6. Stay Tuned!

I also subscribed. I also really appreciated that you took the time to explain the VSTs you like and why, general DAW and mixing workflow, like I picked up so much from this video. I hope Studio One 6 continues to impress you to where you are beyond satisfied and switching to it fulltime.

If you create a folder track and go to the drop down menu that appears below the folder track name you can create a bus for the folder, turning it into a “folder bus”. Btw the major update IMO is the “template” type of presets. You can save your whole drum channel and bus processing as a preset and it loads all the tracks with the plug ins and also loads all the buses like parallel or reverb buses with the plug ins as well with everything neatly routed like you saved. No more need to open an older project to use the drum processing you had and mangle the rest of the old project to fit the new. Just save the drum part as a preset.

Definitely cool but I have found importing just the tracks I need with the Pro Tools import works well too. I always ignored it cause I thought of it for more like bringing in the whole tracks with audio/MIDI from a previous version, which of course it's good for too (doing a "partial rollback" as it were), but of course it can just bring in the channel settings or a folder track. I am sure the new S1 way is slick though, haven't really touched it since V4. IMO they moved so fast, I never even got to try V5, lol. And I just don't like how the Mixer always looks/feels small, even when in the full screen mode... I keep meaning to go back to it though from some composition cause it was awesome how it could auto change the tracks to fit the chord track without even thinking about it, for example. (like just take a sample of a riff, then have it modulate to different keys without thinking about it - although I felt the audio quality suffered a bit with those pitch changes but never really dug into it) Sometimes I just like how Pro Tools feels simpler and old school and doesn't pack too much into the main interface areas, hehe... Cubase is awesome too, need to try that again... but also kinda nerdy with all the panels on the left in the inspector. (but they made it a lot easier to use since version 7 or 8, for sure)

To create a bus for some tracks and have the tracks output straight to it is quite simple, just highlight all the tracks and right click one of them, then select "Add Bus for Selected Tracks" and boom! It creates the bus routes the tracks there. The workflow for Studio One is so fast and intuitive. I'll love to be able to save different song items in the Show Page so i can easily recall the song on another show page. I hear Ableton does that, I'm hoping Studio One 6 will have this.

you should use a "Listen Bus" to load your Sonarwords/Sound ID, then it never touches your Master two bus, but you'll use the Listen bus for your playback monitoring. When exporting mix down, if you have plugins on your Master Bus, you can click "Bypass Master inserts" in the Mixdown window.

I've been using Studio One since late V1 and love it. I think 5he best feature for tracking is the ability to set your buffer for the lowest latency your system can handle then set a high safety buffer which is used on playback. This is essentially an in-the-box version of Avids Hybrid Engine. The only issue (which is known by Presonus) is that you have to disengage the low latency feature to make changes to a plug-in on your record enabled tracks for the changes to take effect. Once you have your tracking sound set you get very low latency on record enabled tracks while your recorded tracks play along with their safety buffer reducing cpu demdemandsam3 option exists for virtual instruments and it works great with Superior 3.

Obviously things have REALLY changed!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Both G5s were dated, so went with a Mini. Started with Logic cause it was the easiest to get up and running, but…. I think you get it. But after switching to a very powerful PC with 256 GB of RAM, I found that the performance of Pro Tools on a PC left much to be desired. I've been following the development of Studio One since version 4, and now in version 6 I have enough of everything - it's a great combination of all the features of Logic Pro and Pro tools in one DAW! I also want to note that Studio One 6 makes very good use of the capabilities of a Windows computer. Never look back!)

I was a Sonar user for years but left when they went out of business. I moved over to Studio One the past couple years and it has been such a headache. So many easy functions in Sonar are multi step processes in Studio One. How do you flip the phase of a track? How do you split a stereo track into two mono tracks? How do you set all tracks in a project to 0db without having to set them to 0db individually? How do you make the grid more visible through your events? How do you move an event forward 10ms to 30ms without doing a bunch of math? How do you move an event a fraction of a sample? How do you store imported audio into your project's dedicated folder? Many of these have answers but they are work arounds and multi step processes that I had to write down for each. I usually have to look up half of what I need to do. I'm now auditioning Cubase and right away I'm feeling my blood pressure reduce. Without using a manual I've figured out such items the first day of using Cubase and they are simple. I swore off Cubase previously due to the dongle requirement but the latest release uses online authentication so Cubase is going to be my new home.

That being said i was using cubase the other day setting up a template and just really blown away by the speed of the Q-track linking feature thingy. essentially i could select all my guitars with the same amp sim settings and just make the change to one and it does it to everything else. wish PT and other DAWs could do this. As far as SO6 i've never used Studio One, it is the ONLY DAW I've never properly used.

I really enjoy Studio One. Cubase is a close second, but something about the "logic" and the way the GUI looks doesn't inspire me. I guess it's because it's very digital looking. Studio One has that "analog" feel to it. Of course, Reason imo has the best look by far and an amazing mixer, but unfortunately Reason continues to leave out composers and audio editors with their arrangement window design/lack of features or intuitive workflow. Amazing for MIDI and EDM instruments. Reason is that program that I always wish combined it's strengths with like a Pro Tools/Studio One workflow for the arrangement window, and all the routing options as well. If Studio One had that "Loft studio from the 90s" look that Reason does... omg it would be my favorite ever haha.

Recording is mainly a cpu and ram game. Assuming studio one 6 supports only 4gb of ram ( I don’t know I haven’t looked). You would be struggling to do much.

Hmm..I have S1 and Fl studio. I’ve tried out other daws and recently Cubase. I would say S1 feels so much better to work in much more simplified. However, Cubase has more features that I wish S1 had. So I would say try CUBASE.

Wish I could smash together Logic and Studio One. Both have duh… features, both good and bad. Example logic fail on markers and ease of interacting with the editor, but they win on how it automatically change key and tempo with song values while auditioning loops.

@@axelfoley1768 I've used Studio One and Nuendo (which is a more featured Cubase). It seems that Cubase has had more features than Studio One. For example Studio One just added a "Channel Editor" in version 6, which Recording Studio Loser said he likes. This same feature has existed in Cubase for years. Track presets has also existed in Cubase for a long time. Cubase also has more advanced MIDI editing with a feature called the Logical Editor. Studio One's midi processing is limited. With that said, Studio One is catching up and provides better support, documentation, and a substantially better user experience. They basically _copy_ Cubase but implement improvement upon those features.

Do you think protools can win you back. And should I try to learn it more. I’ve been mixing and mastering for 15 years and I still to this day can’t stand to be in protools no longer then 15 minutes. To me every thing is just Purposely complexed for no reason.

I love protools as a platform. Its not perfect. But it’s a solid recording software. It’s been recent business practices, marketing, and talking out two sides of their mouth that had me start looking. That said I will probably always have a copy perceptual or otherwise. In the studio because I am commercial. But my own personal preference may be changing.
