Students meet US Army Drill Sergeant - ROTC Cadet Summer Training Fort Knox

Students meet US Army Drill Sergeant - ROTC Cadet Summer Training Fort Knox
The Cadet Basic Camp Course, conducted each summer at Fort Knox, Kentucky, is an accelerated and fast paced 28 Day training event. It focuses on critical military and leadership skills taught during the first two years of the Army ROTC Basic Course Instruction (Freshman and Sophomore classes). The Cadet Basic Course is based on a leadership development curriculum and situational training exercises that push cadets to their physical and mental limits, challenging them to discover their true leadership potential. When they finish, cadets are qualified to enroll in the Army ROTC Advanced Course (Junior and Senior classes).

I did ROTC back in 2001 and 2002. I'm/was a middle eastern kid who barely spoke any English. At some point I went to a week mini boot camp somewhere in CA as I was doing so well with drills ect. I've been back in the middle east since 2003 and I think fondly of those times as hard as they were for a 14 years old. I'm now 33! Our leader's name was Larry Cook, never mind the spelling. I've been trying to find him since 2008 just to say hi and to tell him how much I respected him. Cant find him on Facebook or anything. This was in Monterey High School. Bless u all

I was stationed at Ft. Knox, was 3rd. Brigade 1st, ID. well anyways I was sittin in the chow hall at a table by myself, and a group of drill sgts for rotc came up, asked if anyone was sitting there, I told em all yours. they took off their round and browns and laid em all the table. as one of them is walkin away he looks at me and says pvt dont let anyone take off with our round and browns. I said drill sgt no offence but I dont think anyone here is dumb enough to touch your round and brown. he chuckled then asked me to hand it to him, I said drill sgt I cant afford to get smoked here I got work for brigade that needs doin. they all laughed and walked off. I finished my food instantly, sat there waited for them to come back, they thanked me and I went about my day. it was my first duty station guessing I still was scared of em back then.

@@Mermaider Brown rounds are Army slang for a Drill Sergeant's hat, cover, or head gear. Every hat we wear has a slang term. For instance the cadets are wearing a PC or patrol cap. We also have boonies, c*&t caps, f@g rags, and so on. They aren't usually politically correct terms but we all know what they are.

THIS IS TEACHING.. If he screams and yells at everything that moves, He will lose credibility and the respect of his trainees and they will just tune him out.

They hooked me up with a ride to Knox and to my barracks. Not much on Knox anymore but its good these used what was left for these kids. The people of Kentucky were very nice. Couldn't get yuengling there at that time. My only complaint.

That's how Drill Sergeants train now days? Damn.... Correct way to teach marching.... 1.Instructional Formation, MARCH. AT EASE. The next movement, which I will name, explain, have demonstrated, and which you will conduct practical work on, is the 30 inch step from the halt and the halt. 2.This movement is used to march an element from point A to point B in a uniform manner. 3.The commands for these movements are Forward, MARCH and HALT. 4.Forward, MARCH is a two-part command, Forward is the preparatory command, and MARCH is the command of execution. HALT is also a two-part command when preceded by a preparatory command, such as Squad, Platoon, or Demonstrator. I will use Demonstrator as the preparatory command, and HALT as the command of execution. 5.When given, these commands are as follows: Forward, MARCH. Demonstrator, HALT. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ STEP II 6.Demonstrator, POST. I will use the stepbystep method of instruction. 7.On the preparatory command Forward of Forward, MARCH, without noticeable movement, shift the weight of the body to the right foot. Forward. 8.On the command of execution MARCH of Forward, MARCH, step forward 30 inches with the left foot, keeping the head and eyes fixed to the front. The arms swing in a natural motion, without exaggeration and without bending at the elbows, approximately nine inches straight to the front and six inches straight to the rear of the trouser seams. Keep the fingers curled as in the position of attention so that the fingers just clear the trousers. MARCH. 9..On the command of execution STEP of Ready, STEP, execute a 30-inch step forward with the trail foot. Once again, ensure that you keep the head and eyes fixed to the front. Allow the arms to swing in a natural motion, without exaggeration and without bending the elbows, approximately nine inches straight to the front and six inches straight to the rear of the trouser seams. Keep the fingers curled as in the position of attention, so that the fingers just clear the trousers. Ready, STEP. 10. You will continue marching in this manner until otherwise directed. To further illustrate this movement, I will have my demonstrator execute a series of steps. Ready, STEP. Ready, STEP. 11. The command to terminate this movement is HALT. The halt is executed in two counts. The preparatory command Demonstrator of Demonstrator, HALT, may be given as either foot strikes the marching surface. However, the command of execution HALT of Demonstrator, HALT, must be given the next time that same foot strikes the marching surface. 12. On the command of execution STEP of Ready, STEP, execute a 30-inch step forward with the trail foot. When that foot strikes the marching surface, the demonstrator will receive the preparatory command Demonstrator of Demonstrator, HALT. Ready, STEP. Demonstrator. 13. On the command of execution STEP of Ready, STEP, execute a 30-inch step forward with the trail foot. This is the intermediate step required between the preparatory command and the command of execution. Ready, STEP. 14. On the command of execution STEP of Ready, STEP, execute a 30-inch step forward with the trail foot. When the foot strikes the marching surface, the demonstrator will receive the command of execution HALT of Demonstrator, HALT. Ready, STEP. HALT. 15. On the command of execution STEP of Ready, STEP, execute a 30-inch step forward with the trail foot, this being the additional step required after the command of execution. Ready, STEP. 16. On the command of execution STEP of Ready, STEP, bring the trail foot alongside the lead foot, resuming the position of attention, thus terminating this movement. Ready, STEP. RE-FORM. 17. At normal cadence, this movement would look as follows: Forward, MARCH. Demonstrator, HALT. AT EASE. 18. What are your questions pertaining to this movement when executed at normal cadence or using the stepbystep method of instruction? 19. Demonstrator, ATTENTION. You will now become my assistant instructor. FALL OUT. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While Warrior Forge or whatever its called today doesn't have the meanest DIs, these guys are exceptionally nice. I went through this in 2004 and my DI was a bit more of the yelling and disorienting type. But I also went through this at Fort Lewis which has amazingly pleasant weather in July. I wonder if moving it was partially motivated by wanting the cadets to experience sweltering southern summer heat lol. And yeah cadets can't march for crap, probably the first time marching for many of them. Its just not something you generally do in ROTC, unless you go to one of the military schools or Virginia Tech.

My friend was supposed to get four uniforms extra issued when he got to Fort Knox but instead got the one they gave him at our base Buchanan. Its weird sometimes cause formations look like a hot mess with everyone wearing different uniforms lol

high school---di i say moves forward with them----others i will say what happens usually--90 percent time---other videos--these di lose it--110 percent effort 7/24---really until that drill instructor started following in high school close to a fuck up---or he would be most likely someplace different like an university---thats all no grades 4 that shit---today he may make it that high school kid feeling weak today or what have u ---not til u r out of school does that go away----that kid most likely avoids that branch---or leaves high school and never a word spoken about it again---in the working world no one wants to hear that shit.

They are so ate up. Geez. Also fix your damn PCs. Your PC is supposed to be parallel to the marching surface. It's not a baseball cap. That erks me so much. Its looks stupid when they have it all the way down to their ears like a baseball cap.
