Yea Big Z is probably the strongest ever. Kaz would have had a lot more wins in words strongest man but they didn't let him compete for a while after he won it 3 yrs in a row 80,81,82. Who knows how many more he would have won.

The hardest event of all this is probably the Battery Hold. Anyone can move a semi truck or toss kegs around, but try holding a car battery out at arms' length and see how long you last.

fact is, to pull a truck for that long, around 30 seconds, requires a lot of anaerobic fitness and flexibility too, it is test of strength sure, but it has to be sustained for a certain amount of time. It`s like a 300 yard race...that kind of fitness. So, you know, let the guy come 2nd in a couple of events. He was awesomely strong. Like a bull.

He did a 960 lbs squat with relative ease in this video. The modern squat WSM competition is seven reps and only goes up 800 lbs. I think Kaz would hold his own with modern strongmen easily. I'm not saying he would win, be certainly seems to have had the strength in his prime. Like he says, it usually comes down to how bad the competitor wants it.

Stop bitching about how Kaz would do in a modern competition. The fact is what Kaz achieved in Strongmen is similar to what Arnold did for bodybuilding - put it on the map, leaving people in awe. Most if not all strongmen acknowledge that. P.S. Don't compared 100m sprint records of 2013 to that of 1900, that will only make YOU look silly.

@actionmanrandell That's because the only "valid" deadlift is the one with powerlifting rules. He actually lifted more than that, but they not used dumbbels as the weights. They used wheels or boxes full of something heavy, and in that lifts, the bar stands a lot higher than in a regular deadlift, so the range of motion is smaller, making the lift easier.

There is also a post from someone who remembers Paul coming to his high school while growing up and back-pressing the ENTIRE senior football team on a customized bench. @tokagekobushi I think there is a lot to that really. He was into mental preparation big time. I have been watching him and Karlsen and I got really motivated and suddenly I was able to get so pissed off, and just know I was the strongest man in the world, and I added 100 pounds to my benchpress in 3 months, and now I bench 300 lbs, and squat almost 400 lbs, and started deadlifting for the first time and I got to 300 in a week or two. That mental stuff really works.

many events in WSM do not need endurance. if u ever watch WSM there are acouple of competitors that look like they "rolled" to the competition not walked , they surely know that they dont have a chance in the endurence challenges.

You don't need steroids to get that big and strong. I knew brothers in the seventh grade with bodies like that and they were just simple country folk, who lived on a farm, slaughtered all their own livestock, milked, etc.. They were all natural. They were the only 2 kids in 7th grade that could grow full beards and made the other boys jealous. The girls dug it though. We nicknamed them Ug and Og. Og was the math wiz, and Ug was epileptic because drunk Uncle dropped him on porch when a baby.
