String of Hearts Care + Propagation | Houseplant Care Tips

In this video I share my care tips for the String of Hearts, also called, Chain of Hearts or Rosary Vine and its botanical name the Ceropegia Woodii.
I’m also going to propagate the String of Hearts through cuttings and water. When the roots have grown, I will plan mail him to a few of my IG followers to share the love.
The String of Hearts is one of the most popular and trendy houseplants today. Really easy to care for and even easier to propagate. Enjoy

Another great way to propagate them is by the tubers. You just lay them on some soil and they will grow a complete new plant. My string of hearts had 5-6 tubers on only one string, so I cut the whole thing off and placed it in a circular shape into a new pot, if that makes sense.

  • @CrazyPlantGuy

@alexza03 They grow little round parts along the string, hence the other common name, rosary vine, and those are the tubers they mean. You can cut above those and lay those on the soil. You can do the wrap of the string on the soil to get nodes to root too but keep the strand rooted and do that rather than cut it and wrap, if that makes sense. That's worked better on mine.

In Autumn/Winter they go dormant, so only water when they look like they need it {soil very dry and their leaves feel less 'full'.} I'm sure Crazy Plant guy will be along soon...but don't panic..the white bulb is quite normal...Ive owned my 3 for only 18 months, but they all have the bulb showing. I prefer to use sphagnum moss for propagating soh. I find that each cutting forms it's own little bulb & roots, therefore the cuttings have a much higher success rate. Often you will have to leave some moss on the roots when transferring to soil because the roots cling to the moss.

Thankyou, this was very helpful. I just bought my first string of hearts yesterday and spent a good hour (more like 2) untangling her 🙈🤣.

This was really helpful. I wish I would of researched it before I tried rooting in soil. I bought 3 small cuttings from a lady near me for $5 a cutting. She told me just put in a pot with soil and spritz them and they will root after a few weeks. I’m praying it works but wish I would of done water propagation.

Magnificent plant behind you! My String of Hearts plant fell off his bracket and snapped half the length.....I need to propogate his broken bits! When it happened {4 days ago} O put the broken parts in compost, but will now do them properly in water....{they haven't wilted yet as I covered it with plastic bag} Ooh, I did it very wrong...I have about 50cm lengths in compost...Will salvage these today. Edit: Just taken about 10 cuttings and put them in glass bottles of tap water.

Yes they can easily propagate and make new plants out of them. Glad to read you saved some cuttings

I am your new subscriber! Love the way you explained things about house plants. Currently I bought two pots of string of hearts and plan to propagate it the way you did with water. How frequently do we have to change the water? Thanks
