    Love your videos! They’re so informative. I love the one you’ve had for over a year in the water bottle. I planted a pothos after watching your video and the top of the plant looks great and is sprouting new leaves but the roots are turning brown and even greenish. New root growth is white but they turn brown quickly. I think it’s likely root rot but I can’t figure out where I went wrong. 😫 Any thoughts on why could be causing this?

    Hey man. Love your videos. Inspired me to embrace plants and now I have upwards of 25+ tropical plants that I love taking care of thanks to the info that you provide. I do have a question about propagation. Is it possible to propagate cuttings all year long if you have like a mini greenhouse with humidity and grow lights or is it only possible to root the cuttings in growing season? I couldnt find answer anywhere thought I should directly ask you.

    Liked watching the planting and I think those propagation stations are cool, but a glass or small jar works for now. My goal is a pilea to get..lol. As for more light in the house or grow lights I've just been supplementing with lamps and fluorescent bulbs. Got the tall standing lights that can put three bulbs in. That good enough you think???

    Once you plant your string of hearts like in this video, where you wrap them around and lay them on the top of the soil, how and when do you water them? How often, soak, spray, or both? My friends and family call me The Plant Whisperer. I have over 100 happy plants. BUT, I swear I can’t seem to grow string of hearts (or string of pearls) for nothin’. I have a sad looking hanging basket that taunts me every day. And several stems propagating. The propagating stems aren’t quite ready but when they are, I want to make sure I’m doing it right. Thanks for all your plant guidance.

    Elizabeth Duecker I’ll typically water the string of hearts (baby ones) as soon as they’re 100% dry. If they’re a bit older or mature I’ll let them sit for a few days or a week as soon as they’re dry. They have similar water care as my Hoyas. That’s the best way to describe my watering care for SOH. Lots and lots of bright indirect light. 😊

    With Pothos, I find the stem cuttings to be much easier/better roots and I was wondering what your experience has been with potting the roots from a leaf cutting? For example, can you edit this video to show what this pothos pot looks like now, 4 months later? Also, there's a school of thought out there, that if the roots get used to growing in water, they tend to be a little thinner and prefer water, so then when you pot them in soil, they don't grow as full as they would if started in soil. This could also have something to do with the length of the root and if you get it into soil early enough, then it should be fine, as opposed to too long of a root.

  • @MJosi2

    @MJosi2

    5 жыл бұрын

    I had a pothos cutting in water for a bit and it grew a few roots about an inch long. I should have kept it in water longer to get longer roots but I got impatient and moved it to soil. I would say about a month later after being potted it finally grew a second leaf. It’s been about a year and a half now and it is a single long strand with about 10+ leaves. If you want a bushier plant I would plant a bunch of cuttings (once they have roots) into the same pot. This will make the plant appear to be bushier. Usually that’s what Home Depot and other plant stores will do. Hope that makes sense. For your root question...it is fine to move plants that have been sitting in water into soil. If they are watered properly the roots will get enough water. I usually let the roots dry just a little bit in between watering, this helps the roots get stronger (The root will start growing out more in search of water) Hope this helps.

    If you happen to carry an air pump and air stone, You can use it with your water supply to prove the cuttings the dissolved oxygen they need so in turn you don't have to change the water so often. The oxygen usually determines the success.

    Hi Christian, what do you mean when you say you want to "create a crown" when you transplanted your pothos from rooting water to a 4" pot? It looked like you put them around the edges of the pot. I noticed that I "think" you put the string of hearts all in the middle, right? I don't think you put them around the edges. I'm making notes for myself so I know when to put them around the edges and when to put them in the middle. Thanks!

    Im pretty much new to plants all together I’ve only had plants for the last month and half or so and I think I’m doing fairly well, one of my succulents is growing “babies” on the stem and my sanseveria is also sprouting new leaves. I was wondering though I have been propagating 6-7 potros leaves right now in water, and I read somewhere to change the water every few days to keep the oxygen high in the water? I’ve been changing it every 4-5 days and i was wondering 1. Is this legit haha, should I stop doing this 2. How long does it typically take for pathos to propagate bc I keep seeing mixed results some people it takes a week and some people leave it for 2 months before potting Thank you!!

    Do you have to use a clear glass for water propagation? Will it work with a vase that is not clear?

    Why can roots grow in water and not rot, but rot if potted in soil without proper drainage?

    probably has something to do with the organic matter in the soil

    It's due to lack of oxygen when potted in soil without proper drinage

    Root rot is indeed caused by lack of oxygen to the roots (O2 displaced by the water) but it may also be fungus rot. Fungal spores naturally present in the soil can flourish when bathed in water and attack the roots. Make sure to use sterile scissors to cut away the mushy roots, don’t reuse the soil, and clean the pot with diluted bleach before reusing.

    Could I leave a plant propagating in water forever? I’ve noticed a lot of people prefer these in their house because dirt tends to attract more bugs. 🐛
