I tried the ziplock bag method with a 30cm cutting I bought, there was a 1 inch root developed on one node at the end that I planted, and I coiled the rest of the cutting around the pot putting staples to pin the nodes down and new rootlets started growing from other nodes within 4 days! This method worked better, so far, compared to my water propagated cuttings which have been in water for a month! Thanks :)

It must be your eyes but I always think you could be Lessya's Leaves's sister! I actually put my variegated string of hearts on a bright south facing window and it's very pink! I think its growing decently fast for a slow grower and definitely likes that bright indirect light from my experience. Watering sparingly has been my biggest factor of success to keep them alive. I took some cuttings from my green variety but my cats nabbed it and I lost it! They love chewing on my plants and have their favorite ones to go to lol I dont mind too much and keep the non toxic stuff at their level.

@@elizabethvasquez4068 I would start by giving it sun little by little... you do not want to burn it either. They do fine and try to water more often if you have it sun since the soil will dry faster than if it was in a shaded area. I give mine a small drink every 3 to 5 days. With this my plant gets wet but not drenched in water and allows it to be humid.

After trimming the the amount you want off the plant, do you leave the rest of the stem on or do you take off the remaining stem up to the next node? (Hopefully that makes sense...) When I trimmed and propogated my string of hearts that's what I did (^what I asked above) and they haven't seemed to grow at all.. so I'm not sure if I ruined it or if I put it into a shock mode

  • @thenotsoscarylittlemonster9926

    @thenotsoscarylittlemonster9926

    4 жыл бұрын

You should transfer as soon as the water roots developed. They're much more porous and fibrous than soil roots so if they get too long, the plant will struggle to replace them with soil roots. Once you move it to soil, break the normal SOH rule of "dont water until its super dry!" And instead make sure to keep the soil damp for the first week by giving a thorough watering day one, then little love sips every two or three days. the second week, water it only twice, the third week let it dry out completely

Hi, my SoT is really lush and full. They like as much indirect light as you can supply, and mine is happiest getting pretty close to bone dry in between waterings. Then I let it soak for 30 minutes, an hour or so. Similar to the succulents. I also feed it well all through the warm months, at 100-150 ppm. Also, if you find it to be sensitive, use rain, snow, or distilled water. Sometimes the most sensitive plants just can't handle the ppm of tap water, you know, like orchids or other epiphytes. Good luck!

  • @ErikaLodes

Whenever you cut above a node, the node usually grows two stems back. So it might have to be cut shorter, but that’s SO LONG!!! If you want, you can also take single node cuttings from the end so it doesn’t get too much shorter & plant them around the top. Each of them will be their own little plant, but it does take time.

Mike Clarke I would say most likely no because they do need sun, otherwise they’ll die.

I bought a sohs and some of the leaves on top are a purplish color. Is this from to much sun? I cant find the answer anywhere and cant find any answers on the internet. Any advice would be so much appreciated

Usually a dark purple/brown could mean there’s too much sun! Just make sure that he’s not getting a lot of direct sunlight in your home & he should be fine :-) Lots of indirect bright light instead 🌞

Okay he was like that when I bought him and I wasnt sure if that might just be the coloring some have or if its from the sun. Did the leaves from yours ever go back to normal or do they die and fall off? Mine looks just like yours. I really appreciate commenting back! Like I said I cant find anyones sohs that look like mine except yours.

They didn’t go back to normal, but they are still on the plant. It could be the coloring if it’s deep purple & not really grayish. My top hearts are grayish purple so they’re burned, but it’s new growth is adapted to the sunlight & they grow in a purple/green 😁

I am on my 3rd pot of string of hearts! I’ve repotted my first two and after I did that their health declined. The first pot wasn’t getting enough light on the top so it lost a lot of the top and started to bald. My 2nd pot was so long and happy but I wrapped the strands at the top and no light got the top after watering so I had to cut and propagate. After the loss of my second one my boyfriend surprised me with my 3rd. I’m not repotting until my propagating stands are ready so I can combine with the 3rd plant. I feel the top of the plants needs nice light and maybe bottom watering will help prevent a bald plant top...

Deijah Bernie I completely agree! I will usually bottom water my plant also & keep them from being too close to the ceiling so they can get light to reach the top of the pot :)

About how long did it take for your roots to grow this long? I have some in water right now but I don't think they have any roots yet. (I'm trying to be patient. Haha.)

That they recommended your video ? Any way My two same plant just got dead shading leafs certainly after a week of purchase . I yet could not figure out why they rejected me? I have over 100 Hoyas and so far none dies in my indoor garden . I have two leaf cutting Hoyas too . They all are fantastic growing flowering etc . But the string of heart I had to say Rip. Although they are not completely dead . A kind of Life supporting ( LoL) Can you share your instagram so that I can share there pictures with you ?

There’s different types of SOH’s. I’d imagine that’s why the backs of the one pot are purple and the other pot is green.

Great video! The variegated SOH is a slow grower, I love watching the new tiny little leaves pop out tho. I watched this one lady attach a bunch of plants on her tree in the backyard, maybe you have already seen this one. If not check it out she's pretty clever. kzread.info/dash/bejne/rJ15pa6undCcXdo.html

You actually do not want to use a water meter on this plant, becuz they grow the balls on the roots u mentioned called "tubers" and u can damage them that way.

  • @rnmari2011

Sorry but looking at both plants it looks like one whole side is dead from what was there when u first had the plant. Only a few of the sections ended up growing.

  • @ErikaLodes

Hmm 🤔 maybe bc you have to propagate a lot of strands or a rlly long strand to get a plant going from scratch? It’s fast, but not lightning fast. I’m not sure, tbh
