I love my 620r. It surprises everyone as people don’t expect a Caterham to be so quick in a straight line. They know they are quick around corners but when you are leaving people in a line everyone comes to ask what it is 🤣🏎
I live in the UK, I've never driven a Caterham 7 but I've been a passenger in one , scared the life out of me, it's a street legal go kart. You sit about 2 inches off the road. Fantastic handling, stick like glue to the road.

I have at Silverstone what a car lol 😂 😂 donuts and all!
I drove one of these around the Silverstone racetrack. I then got driven around by the current leader of the Caterham race series. I've never felt anything like it. They even placed a fire proof mat across the exhaust when I got in and out. My helmet kept hitting the roll bar between gear changes. Bloody awesome.
Power to weigh wins all the time no matter what. Love it

These cars are such an enjoyable and engaging drive. Having driven one it's the best driving experience I've ever had. Shaun ya not going to forget driving this. So glad ya put the Seven on the show.
Back before Caterham took over production rights from Lotus, Sevens used to enter many sportscar races in the UK but because they were so successful, winning race after race against much bigger and more powerful sportscars they were eventually banned from all the main classes of sports car racing in the UK and had to be entered in to a One-make series of racing which continues to this day. I remember seeing a few races where Lotus/Caterham's were allowed to race against other makes of sports car but provided the other competitors gave their consent and that they started at the back of the grid, regardless of their qualifying positions. One particular race like this at Brands Hatch had me laughing in that even from the back of the grid, within about three laps almost all of the Lotus/Caterham's had got past the other cars which included, E-types, Cobra's, big Healy's, TVR's, Porsches, Ginetta's, MG's etc. It was mainly to do with their much higher cornering speeds and far later braking due to their lightness. Also if you want an even more powerful Caterham Seven take a look at the 'Levante' on U-Tube it has a V8 motor derived from two Yamaha/Suzuki bike engines built onto a common block and made by a guy called Russell Savory. I think some had around 500/600hp and revved to 12,000 in a 560Kg car, Insane noise too!

@@AutotopiaLA Thanks for your reply and glad you enjoyed your ride. There are a few dealers in the U.S. and in 2005, along with a bunch of friends from the UK I shipped my Seven over to Houston and took my Caterham Seven across the U.S. and through quite a number of States right up to San Francisco, together with a number of U.S seven/Ultralite owners, so about 50 cars in all. I had my brother as a passenger which proves you can get enough gear for two people in the car to do a three week road trip and you can probably guess that the cars tended to get noticed everywhere we went, loads of amazing and some funny stories about that trip.

Hi Shawn, back in the early 80's my dad and I went to their workshop when they were based in Caterham to look at these cars. They are based at Dartford now here in the UK. They were always nick named the 4 wheel motorbike as anything up to 500 cc you could beat it off of the traffic lights. And that was back then when they used the old X Flow Ford engines. They are way faster nowadays, 3 times the power. Great cars.

Tom Champion has a book about how to build a sports car for $250. He uses a donor British escort and welds the 1 inch square aircraft box tubing frame. The book has all the plans to build a basic Lotus Super 7 ( the name they had before Caterham bought them out)

I find it odd you're doing a review of the Caterham at a Superformance salesroom. Because Superformance made their own version of the Super Seven called the S1. In my opinion, it was the best "fit and finish" of the Seven cars. I actually was on a list to get one but they only made about 56 cars. The Cobra and Daytona replicas were their "bread and butter" so they quit making the S1. I was hopeful it would've been discussed or brought up during this video; especially since you're in a Superformance shop showroom. All aside, they're a blast to drive !!
@supercarsandsuperfoods5779

I didn't bring up the S1 because we haven't sold it for years. Sales didn't support continuing the build of the cars so no real point in mentioning it, at least in my opinion. It was a great little car, just not enough people were willing to purchase one. Glad you were/are a fan though!

I had a concept of building a Caterham with a Chevrolet Corvair engine (110hp+) ahead of the cabin, with the transaxle separated, behind the cabin? First imposable problem is the loss of frame structure around engine, unless there's a way to make the engine block a structural member (highly unlikely), this kills the entire concept. Second imposable problem is the Corvair engine and transaxle would be facing backwards in the Caterham frame, but it's possible to flip the transaxle over (ref: Corv-8 / Crane conversion), thus possibly solving this problem and prevent the need for a geared adaptor? Third imposable problem is to reposition the cooling shrouds ("tins") for proper, as Engineered airflow around engine. The remaining difficulties (brake lines, clutch and throttle linkages, etc...) are minor compared to the three "imposable problems", especially the first. I hope you enjoyed this concept description? ;-)

If you think that car has horsepower to weight. "Sprint cars have a very high power-to-weight ratio, at a weight of approximately 1,400 pounds (including the driver)for a 410 Sprint car, power outputs of 900 horsepower to 1,100 horsepower are commonplace for these machines, which is around 140-340 more horsepower than a 2014 Formula One engine." "A World of Outlaws Sprint Car is a purpose-built open-wheel race car, which must weigh at least 1,400 pounds with the driver in the car. The 410-cubic inch engine is fueled by methanol, and produces approximately 900 horsepower."

I've been driving a Seven in the UK since 2003 - 365 days a year, all weathers and around 190,000 miles in two cars. If it rains, just drive a little faster and it will blow over the top!
He left out "simplicity". Colin said "SIMPLICITY, and add lightness'. Then he sticks his hand out in front the rear wheel.... How stupid are people? I still watched the whole video.
Video is a bit disappointing - shows the acceleration, but Caterhams are all about road-holding as well as speed: the greatest fun is driving one fast on a twisty road..........
Man some people’s definition of a go-kart is just stupid....
