Great fruit. Planted one about 8+ yrs ago. No longer have, but do have it's cousin, the Strawberry Guava. The Strawberry was actually better tasting that I suspected. But really liked the lemon. Neither will get as tall as a Ficus, though, and can take a bit of a beating in the full sun heat & won't fruit quite as well or taste as well as it does in the early spring or late fall. It does look a lot like a smaller ficus, which can freeze at ~28 degrees & below

I bought a lemon guava from the Lowe's on Bell late last summer and couldn't wait to try the fruit. Well the fruit came and it was disgusting. It tasted like bitter tomatoes. Nobody in my family could stand the flavor. I was ready to completely write off all lemon guava until I saw this video. I spoke to a very enthusiastic young man at Summer Winds nursery who recommended you and your channel. So glad I was able to see the error of my ways. I'll be making a trip out to your nursery very soon!

The yellows have a great flavour, even quite good when underripe, the red however is tastier than the yellow when fully fully ripe but quite horrible when underripe. In Northern Aotearoa they grow almost wild and with a good rainfall/when they grow near a water source the fruits can become the size of a small plum

I grew 2 of the large leaf variety from seed.. Mine couldn't take the heat when it got above 115 degrees and eventually died. I have one in the shade, it still doesn't like extreme heat. It's about 4 years old and still only 4 feet. I have to agree though, the fruit is delicious, much better than tropical guavas IMO

When I was a student, one of my friends lived in a “student house” that was rented by a heap of students, along one side of the large yards, someone in the past had planted a hedge of Guava trees of various types, the variety of the fruit was intriguing and tasty. There was always fruit to be found somewhere in the hedge. The fruit fly didn’t seem attracted. The fruit was good on its own, good chilled with icrecream, good bottled and great stewed with Port or French Brandy!

Lowe’s literally sells these exact varieties every spring. To be honest they’re not that great and the fruit is nothing special. They absolutely cannot take full sun. Most people do not baby their plants the way you do so they will have a widely different experience than you. Lemon and strawberry guavas are really an afterthought fruit. They’re unremarkable. I understand you have a business and are trying to make profits but come on. Stop trying to oversell.

I listened/watched 1 minute and 10 seconds of this. Cattley guava will NOT work 10 times better than a fig! What turnip truck did you fall off of. I have both lemon and strawberry guava producing as well as several fig varieties...First off, Cattley guava does NOT have near the cold hardiness of fig trees--maybe 20-25 F. Second, Cattley guavas are not nearly as sweet as figs are, nor as productive. I like Cattley guava, but it a little marginal to grow in my zone. Figs are MUCH hardier. Goodbye.
