    Would love a video on what you know about pugging. I’m unsure what time of year to do it, at what age of the tree is best to do it, where on the tree do you pug back to, etc. Also would love any advice on how best to correct iron deficiency in mangos. Great info. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. The tip on folier feeding makes sense.

    You definitely know mangoes. Yours are beautiful especially for Phoenix. I'm in Tucson, all you said about them being protected in the canopy and dense and just the leaves and fruit getting the sun--this took me a couple of years to learn on my own, wish I would've seen this then. I just got a GLENN MANGO they say are hardy to 25F (-3c) and have a better chance in Tucson winters. I keep my mangoes in pots and give them distilled water since our water has so much salt & chlorine, after I started doing that they are looking so good and putting out more leaves. Probably could get away with just doing distilled water a couple weeks per month but for now i'm seeing an big improvement. Give them mango food as well since distilled doesn't have minerals. But this way they get just the right amount of minerals and not an overload from our horrible water.

    There's a product called surround that they use in southern California for their trees for the intense heat. I never used it before but I'm going to try it this summer. I live in the Florida keys and it gets real hot in July and August near 100 degrees! Not as bad as Phoenix but they do strain especially when full uf fruit. Oh by the way it's supposedly organic! Good for the mangos!

    Have you had any luck growing chayote or kiwano or that tiny cucumber that looks like a watermelon? I'm in the southern most tip of Nevada, at 2500ft, a bit cooler during the winter. But much dryer, with high winds, because we don't get the monsoon flow up here like you do down in the lower desert. Because they claim that these plants grow very long, thick and highly productive, I'd like to cover the heavy frame that surrounds my garden area with 4×6 hog wire and grow these three plants all around it to act as a natural sun/wind barrier. Any suggestions?

    seen couple of my neighbors have mango trees in ground. i just noticed my Indian neighbor right beside me has a mango tree growing still protects it with clear plastic in winter. i live in zone 9b/10a. so thinking i should give it another shot. killed a Manila mango from home depot & some mango called California Pride i got from Sand Diego. i planted straight in native clay soil so i'm guess that was a problem. this time i'm going to try growing them in plastic 45 gallon trash cans. half potting soil half sand, some pine bark, & some lava rock. just got an M4, Orange Sorbet, & O-15. thinking to use Kaolin clay as a foliar spray

    Crucial info here! My environment in far North California low inland is not quite desert like Phoenix but low temps are similar and we can get weeks straight over 110 F in summer. There are no known mangos this far North but I've done well SO FAR with young avocados and going to try a mango or two. At least PH and salt are not problems here.

    There are impressive mangos and avos in Phoenix AZ area and my climate is similar except less dry and maybe 5 deg. F. cooler on the the high end...we rarely hit 115 in summer, maybe few weeks in the teens and rarely high or mid 20's for a few days or weeks in winter, citrus thrive here. Is there any difference if you are growing mangoes in containers? I don’t know if it is possible to grow them organically because there’s not enough area for worms and other microbes to support their growth in a container. The ph doesn’t seem to be a problem but I don’t know by just using organic methods that their is enough nutrition for them.

    Mangos prefer 7-7.5 Ph soil. Acidic soil destroys mango flavor since it cant uptake all nutrients that it needs (except when they are grafted on Hawaiian mango root stock) Native mango soil is 80% beach sand with 7.0 ph. PH isnt a problem for mangos but compacted clay soil is. Mangos are thriving in limestone soil of SoFL with ph over 8.0 which is as loose as sandy soil.

    We are so alkaline 9, 10, the acidic soil with the native alkaline soil and water get us real close to 7. Or me anyway

  • @greenblood3708
    @greenblood37085 жыл бұрын

    Another tip - dont buy mangos in local nursery - order them directly from a reputable grower in SoFL. SoFL growers turn over their mango stock in 12 months. That is why you can often find mango sales in FL at the end of mango season - not because mangos are in bad shape. Most of them time you can get a 7g tree with shipping for the same money that local guys will sell you a 3g for. They are getting them from SoFL too. For example - last year I got a 7g - 5' for 150$ with shipping to CA. Locally you cant even get 5g -3' for that money.
