Absolutely right. And after living in a place with back porch overlooking small lake, i think i've come to understand why.... bass need some sort of distraction/advantage to catch their prey with the least effort. It's the same reason we don't chase a house fly around trying to catch it in our hand; it's too quick and we waste our effort, which in the case of a bass is life and death. Wind/ripples, water clarity/obsuring, and low light conditions all give bass a small advantage, which makes them feed more aggressively. Just my two cents. :)

I have found it when fishing from the bank during spawning and pre-spawn season that pink and orange combination worms will get hit immediately over or near nesting areas in shallower water. The rest of the time I use greenwood watermelon seed from the bank. I catch bass consistently like this. I basically just carry these two colors worms in my pockets with some hooks. I use a worm that has a decent amount of weight to it's plastic and fish with no weights on the line. This way I can use a lighter line that cast further and it's harder for the fish to see. The only thing different that I use is minnows live. No need to carry a tackle box for extra gear you just move around with your rod and your pocket or a minnow bucket if you have Minnows. I never spend money on expensive lures or worry about losing them so I use a light line. And without using a weight the worms will pull through and over weeds grass lilies and brush much easier. Also you can slow swim the worm and it also syncs much slower giving a lot of opportunity for the bass to want to go look at it. All of this is something that I learned watching Jimmy Houston outdoors back in the early 1980's. KEEP IT SIMPLE AND AVOID THE AGGRAVATION YOU CAN HAVE BY TOTING TOO MUCH STUFF AROUND. 👍🏻 😎 Shoreline I use a spinning reel with fluorocarbon to take advantage of all of its benefits . Also when using minnows I do not use a weight but I use a float to control depth. This lets a minnow swim around freely as special and something comes up to look at and tricks the bass into chasing it. 😉 These are the routines I have settled into after 40 plus years of bass fishing, I am 65 now. 👍🏻

Solid video Ty. Just experienced that this week but with a twist. I had clear water, some active bass but windy conditions. The weed growth prevented spinnerbaits and bottom bouncing. Had to think outside the box and throw a weightless Yum Dinger in the Bama bug and let the wind drift help cover water. The largemouth weren't shy but they made me work. Definitely highlights some of your talking points. Thanks brother

What would you throw for spotted bass in water with 3' of visibility and a sand bottom? I fish in Lake Norman or Lake Rhodehiss or Lake Hickory in NC some. I caught a spot a few days ago on a grey fluke with an underspinner in Rhodehiss but just had 1 bite. That spot is in a cove with no wind or waves. On Lake Norman it's open water that can be windy. I just fish behind job sites I'm working on, from shore or a dock. I'm a saltwater guy, far from my element. I think if I had the right lures I'd catch more bass. Spotted bass are kinda fun, they seem to fight harder than largemouth.

You haven't steered me wrong yet,I'm applying this asap. O fish a very small lake (about 55 acres) on my lunch break and before work some mornings. I know the fish are there I've seen 2 to 3 lb down to drinks and have caught a couple drinks. I've heard if some nice fish (6, 7, 8 lbs from this lake ice just had trouble trying to see what they will eat. It's fairly heavily fished in walthall county ms. Thank you for the videos!

I rarely start with green pumpkin. Bear in mind that I fish water that is clearer than gin clear. We're talking tap water. 30 foot visibility is not uncommon. And I don't start with 'natural' colors or even care about 'match the hatch'. The only times I really start with a 'natural' color is with bluebird skies, warm water (for my area that's about 80 degrees and above), and still winds. And for those three things to line up is really rare. If it's cloudy, even with gin clear water, I'm going junebug. If it's windy, even with clear water, I'm going junebug. Not everyone does this. But it's what works for me and what I have confidence in. I catch tons of fish, especially in the fall.

Would love to see a video explaining what the "right" area is and how to break down a lake to find them.

It’s interesting that “loud” conditions overpower “silent” conditions, in that only one of the three is needed to beat two of the other. It makes sense that loud would be stronger than silent.

Today was the first day this year I didn’t catch a fish. Corp is drawing down our lakes in Tn. Everyone I talked to got skunked. Saw fish breaking water but they wouldn’t hit nothing.
