Near the end of his life, he had his guitar strings made from piano wire as that was the only way he could play as aggressively as he did without constantly breaking strings. The trade off was they were so strong he’d rip off the callouses on his fingers. He fixed that by just supergluing them back on.

August 27th 1990 was a bad for all of us SRV fans! I first saw Stevie, Chris and Tommy; September 23, 1983 in Miami, at a Jammies Award show for local bands. He opened up for Mitch Ryder. The Texas Flood record had just come out, and he was pretty much an unknown. I had the record for about a month, and had to see him live. I then drove up to Cocoa Beach, Fl. to see him live at Brassy's Nightclub September 25th 1983 At Both shows he stunned the audience as they had no idea what they had just witnessed! I saw him a total of 7 times. Only in 1987 at the Brevard County Fair did i get backstage and meet the band for about 10 minutes. Nicest bunch players i had and have ever met. Stevie is a guitar legend. As others have said, it is fantastic to see a whole new generation get to see THE MAN!

He broke a lot of strings.\ He played real heavy strings so had to tighten them a lot to tune. The second guitar isn't broken in yet. Needs a few more thousand hours of play. -YourBiggestFan

You can see the look on his face when the string breaks during the solo. It's like he's saying to the guitar, 'go ahead and fall apart if you want, but I'm not done with this solo yet'. Then during the swap, he doesn't miss a thing.

His style of music was southern rock rooted heavily in the blues , most of the music in those days was close to that but no one did it like Stevie but for more of it check into bands like Marshall tucker Molly Hatchet The Allman Brothers Band and the list goes on but you can start with them if you like to style music or you can just go straight to the source and start listening to some BB King style blues music , Stevie always claimed BB King as not only a huge force in his musical style but also a close personal friend

People miss the fact that the whole band was on another level it's just that Stevie Ray Vaughn was so much ahead of them no one sees how good his band really was I'm telling you the night he was killed the world lost what was going to be the greatest guitarist that ever lived , it was said that on that foggy August night in 1990 the helicopter pilot was really uncomfortable about flying but they went up anyway cause it was a late show and Stevie wanted to get to the hotel cause he had another show the next day and it was going to be a long long ride in a limo so they took off and flew into the side of a mountain in the fog killing the pilot and all 4 passengers on impact

This is not only testament to Stevie, but to the alertness, readiness and professionalism of his guitar tech and sound man. All Stevie did was look over his shoulder and his man was there to even help him strap on so that he could hit his cue. No pop or feedback in the PA either. The channel was dropped and picked back up with spot on timing.

He was this talented , because of a story that his brother Jimmy of the fabulous thunderbirds tells about when they were young and learning their craft how Stevie Ray would practice tell he would shread the calluses off his fingers and then crazy glue them back on and go back to practicing , in another interview he talked about how he was a few years older then Stevie and in order to go to band practice , Jimmy would have to sneak away from the house cause Stevie Ray always wanted to run after him wanting to practice and play with the band
