That's a cover of a Jimi Hendrix tune, most call it blues rock.. You should give a listen to Stevie doing "Little Wing", it's a great instrumental and a cover of another Hendrix tune.

Hey IYG, This video came up in my feed, as I like to watch SRV reactions. Watched and subscribed. Consider this reaction as your proper introduction to SRV's music. This is, of course, his superb cover of a great Jimi Hendrix song. If Jimi was the best guitarist who ever lived, then SRV is sitting at his right hand side. I will agree with most others that you now owe it to yourself to react to Texas Flood live at the El Mocombo. It's a must see, and some of the greatest guitar playing ever recorded. Otherwise, thanks for the Vlog where you say where you're from (not too familiar with Welsh, and your accent was giving me fits trying to guess!). It was also nice seeing your first Tatt. Well done! Looking forward to more. Thanks, IYG!

This is straight up rock and roll. Song was written and originally performed by guitar trailblazer, Jimi Hendrix. SRV came along some 15 years after the death of Jimi and took the rock/blues guitar to another level. There are many great SRV songs. You just scratched the surface here, but check them out live because SRV can do some tricks with guitar that will surprise you. He is the GOAT in this genre of guitar.

Lucky you. I saw him and Double Trouble several times. I always wanted to meet Stevie and walked passed he and his girlfriend on Bourbon Street once but let them be. Like Jimi, SRV seemed like a kind person.
I love to watch people discover Stevie and Double Trouble. He's from "my time," and is the greatest ever. There are tons of great videos of his performances (Thank God!). Start with anything from the performance at El Mocambo (particularly "Texas Flood" and "Little Wing"). Then go to the show at the Capitol Theater, Passaic NJ, 1985 (particularly "Life Without You" and "Couldn't Stand the Weather). Well--then this is more. You can't go wrong. He plays a mix of rock and blues. So you'll see the influences of both--particularly blues. Just spectacular guitar work--and Double Trouble--the guys behind him--are all great in their own right. Welcome aboard.

Stevie didn't read music and never played a song the same way twice, so when the commenters tell you to watch a specific live video, it is because it is absolute fire. My vote for "Texas Flood" - Live at EL Macombo should be next.
Liking Rock-n-Roll and not knowing who SRV is, is the same as liking art and having no idea who Vincent van Gogh is. Or liking poetry but never having heard of Robert Frost. There is a reason every great blues artist of the day wanted to collaborate with him.....he was a freaking wizard. GOAT!

If you want Stevie's greatest single performance watch his "Life Without You" at Capitol Theatre. He switches/tunes his guitars, adjusts his amps, drops his pick, and loses a tooth. All of this happens during the song and if there wasn't video evidence no one would have known any of it. Because you can't tell by only listening to the music.
This American Classic Blues Rock n Roll….Stevie Ray Vaughan is a G. O.A.T -Greatest Of All Time Guitarists and a legend in the music world.!
That wasn't sweat. It was raw, natural talent. RIP Stevie.
Best guitarist that ever lived....RIP SRV......you have to watch him playing Texas Flood live at El Mocambo
He’s just one the best to ever pick up a guitar
SRV the greatest. This is a Hendrix cover... Died way to young. The Blues fusion with rock. Mention to Dan that those are 13 gauge strings. His playing has been described as the blues with to many notes. I love that guitar looks like it's been played a few times... Thank you Katie -YourBiggestFan

I used to hear him live in West Texas. Starting in the late 70's till early 80's. Many a night I lost myself in his music. He was such a kind, humble person who always said hello to everyone.
His name is pronounced, "Vawn," like "Lawn." The genre is "Blues/Rock," which is a very rich form of American music. SRV was a wonderful, incredibly gifted guy.
SRV was the GOAT! He was blues & rock and stole peoples hearts with his music. Great Reaction! Maybe check out Texas Flood his signature song/sound - live at El Mocambo was amazing, Look At Little Sister 1989 live in Austin & Tin Pan Alley live with Johnny Copeland. All stunning ❤

I want to say to everybody who criticized this young lady for not knowing SRV or knowing the genre of music to relax, take a breath. It's okay. Remember we all learn eventually. We can't all be born in Texas number one. Or been around the influence of this type of music. And truthfully no one can say they've heard EVERY musician. Our jobs are to encourage and spread the joys of the music that brings out those hidden emotions in us to others. So, be ENCOURAGING, not discouraging. Have a great day dear, and keep exploring!

Agreed. Everyone has a different knowledge pool, and she probably could name a dozen bands and musicians off the top of her head that they'd never heard of. There is a great amount of knowledge out there to know. So much so that no one can absorb more than a fraction of it in a lifetime. However, it is a bit saddening to see much of what is generally known today being homogenized by the dominance of the media industry.
When the bass player gives you the holy shit look you know you are next level.

This man was a guitar prodigy. He was able to play by ear without the ability to read music... he was a master guitar technician..Not only did he master his craft but he Owned it.
Stevie Ray Vaughn could rock, but he was a blues man through and through. He was well respected by all the blues cats of the day.
My absolute favorite performer!
It’s refreshing to see young people find real music!
I too can listen to Stevie all day. And, I like watching him play. He is all over the fretboard. Even better, he was a humble and kind person. He had so much respect from all the blues players like B.B. King & Buddy Guy. He arrived at a concert in Red Rocks in Colorado USA. B.B. King was onstage playing. Stevie asked why. They told B.B. was opening Stevie & Double Trouble. Stevie became seriously upset and made sure none of those blues legends opened one of his shows. Check out "Life Without You" live at the Capital Theatre in NJ. Thanks for reacting to SRV.
Take it up a notch, Stevie Ray Vaughn "Texas Flood" Live at El Mocambo (one of his best)!
Stevie Ray Vaughn was the king of the Texas Blues scene before passing away at age of 35
The Great and Beloved Stevie Ray Vaughn. Rest in Peace Stevie, we miss you.
"You won't see no more of me in this world, I'll see you in the next one, and don't be late, don't be late." When Stevie Ray showed up, Jimi said, "Dude, you're EARLY!" :(
Thanks for the awesome reaction. Just so you know, Stevie’s last name’s pronounced ‘Von’ and you just discovered one of the top blues guitarist legends of all time. A very humble man, from Dallas TX that seemed to relate with everyone. He failed music class and never learned how to read music. Started playing in bars at 14 and dropped out of high school to play in bands F/T. He played with all his heart and soul up to his last few hours on earth. Please keep his tunes coming as you keep his life’s dedication to music alive. Always loved and most certainly never forgotten. We miss you SRV! ✌🏼❤️
Incredible rock and roll one of the greatest guitarists ever GOAT legend R.I.P SRV ✌🏻
The GOAT...Period, it’s not jazz or punk🤨 it’s the blues! 🤩
Stevie is one of best blues guys that ever existed
he didnt drop the pick, he was adjusting one of the pedals.
SRV, the greatest guitar player that ever lived, hands down!!!! RIP Stevie!
He played crazy thick gauged strings cause he break normal strings, big ass hands.....and legend in the blues Buddy Guy said most guitarist couldn't/can't play Stevies guitar cause of the gauge of strings and he bends them bitches like no other ......goosebumps everytime I hear him making the wife talk
SRV didn't just play the guitar, he used it as a means to play his emotions through it. It was if he was born with the damn thing. Playing guitar came to him as naturally as putting one foot in front of the other. He owned that instrument, total control, total expression, zen if you will. When he was bending those three strings at the end of Voodoo Chile it was like he was making love to it.
You just had the SRV experience! 🙌🏻LEGEND🙌🏻 R.I.P

Yes. It drives me crazy when people say 'the best ever.' There's no such thing. They're all unique in their own way. It's okay to have favorites, I've been playing guitar for almost 40 years and my favorites change on a daily basis.
"My brain is going numb right now!" - I've never heard a better description for the feeling a person gets when listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan play the guitar.
It's not jazz it is blues music Stevie Ray Vaughan was a legend one of the best

Straight ahead pentatonic blues rock and roll. A gift from the heavens to we mere humans.
Stevie left us way too soon, RIP Stevie Ray we love you and that amazing guitar!
You just witnessed arguably THE greatest contemporary Blues guitarist.
way back in the day when Hendrix wrote and performed this we called it Acid Rock for obvious reasons...but if you have to sum up Stevie's sound...it's hard core Texas Blues...but both versions featured unmatched guitar wizardry
It's Texas Blues/ Rock. I must say I am sorry so many of you who weren't around in the 80's will never get to see him live. It was absolutely the best concert I was ever at.
Glad you found Stevie. Just found you. Good reaction.
(rewatch and new comment) SRV is often considered the GOAT. He was in my opinion. There will never be another like him He doesn't play behind his back in this performance.... He was clean(off drugs) and was in gear to blow up. And died in a helicopter crash He won both Rock and Blues Grammy awards(6 total)
Stevie Ray Vaughan is in both the rock Hall of Fame, and the blues Hall of Fame. I would say this song is a mixture of both. RIP to the GOAT.

I lived in Austin and saw him 8 times, mainly in outdoor venues. A couple of times with his brother Jimmy.
Stevey Ray attained guitar strings on his fingers. In the end ,all he needed was some wood and fretts. One of the gods.
I saw him live at Great America in California shortly before he died. A master showman.

I love seeing people watch SRV for the first time and get the slack jawed WTF? look of awe on their faces...
"Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" was originally written and performed by Jimi Hendrix. From 1968 (when the song was released on Electric Ladyland) until Hendrix's death, the song was constantly featured in all of Hendrix's live performances to showcase his guitar virtuosity. Stevie Ray Vaughan would often state, in interviews, that Jimi Hendrix's playing has the biggest influence on him and his guitar playing style.
It's amazing how he makes the guitar match his words in tones so perfectly... did u catch it?

welcome to stevie ray vaughn. Arguably one of if not the greatest blues guitarist to ever walk the earth. He passed away way too young but the man had absolutely bonkers talent. "Voodoo Child - Jimi Hendrix" from 1968. Is a cover song, and it's pronounced, "Von" even though it's spelled "Vaughan". Sadly Stevie died in a helicopter crash in 1990. He was at the height of his career.

One of the best tracks Stevie Ray ever did was "Riviera Paradise" which was recorded at the very end of a session, and the tale is told that he got to grooving in the booth and didn't see the sound engineer telling him to stop... the band was able to segue into the coda section, Stevie played it with them, and they ended the song just as the recording tape ran out. There were no retakes, as the helicopter crash that killed him happened very shortly after. That one tape was all they had to work with.
