yeah... i mean, it's not the most practical method, "slapping" away the knife. In a real-life situation, some weak slap isn't going to redirect the knife much. But kicking is effective. Kicking is very effective and there were some incidents in the past involving women getting attacked for serious, and all they did was kicking. It's almost too easy kicking away attackers if they're not trained to dodge kicking. fast frontal kicks will force the attacker to back off. if he doesn't, it's likely he will fall over or nib your leg with the knife, but keeping him at bay is important. if he does fall over, depending on what position his arm is in, you can kick away the knife or stomp it out of his hand. the true way to prepare for a knife attack is consider EVERY scenario, and be ready for anything to happen. if you get stabbed, hold the knife in. don't let him re-stab you. one stab is better than being full of holes. but honestly, it's hard to consider everything. I only scratched the surface.

Nah, this is completely unrealistic. No knife fighter attacks with those wild, wide sweeps. On the contrary - they first grab you with the other hand, and when you are entwined together, they will stab you repeatedly in your exposed side, in a very fast succession. See prison knife rush anywhere - experienced fighters don't wave the weapon around so that you can perform some of those flashy aikido takedowns. They know you have nothing to keep them at distance (if you punch them, and they stab them, guess who will be standing in the end). Knife is actually a super dangerous weapon that can wreck you in just a blink of an eye. No cheap way around it.
