@@richardkranium2944 Its actually a patented Floyd called an Edge II Tremolo system, Innovated, designed by Steve and Joe Satch. Same principles as the Genuine Original Floyd but tweaked. If you ever get a chance to have a look at one, You will notice the saddling and where the Strings first make contact with metal are more rounded off, Thus preventing Blowouts. I've seen Steve live 3 times live and have never once seen him blow out a string. Amazing huh. Both my brother and myself own this particular model. Put simply, It is beautiful and has a real nice Strat feel to it but the neck itself is not as rounded but flatter. Rather hard to describe... It has Jumbo frets as Steve's hands are absolutely Huge and lanky..The EVO 2 Pickups are just amazing and you can pull more or less any tone you like after you have owned one for awhile. A tube amp is a must for these Guitars as thats when the wood ( Alder ) combined with the EVO's and Tone controls really and I mean Really come to life big time! - Cheers mate - Skorp, Western Australia

Skorp † I also have a jem in my collection. Unfortunately mine has a normal Floyd on it. I haven’t broken any strings and it stays in tune for the most part. Honestly I’m an esp guy. I love the slim flat back of neck.

My father showed me this a long time ago, probably not long after it came out. This was his favorite versions of one of his favorite songs. He died yesterday morning after a 2-year battle with cancer, and this will forever help me remember him fondly. I'm grateful that he showed me this so many damn times and that Steve Vai came up with this absolute masterpiece. What a performance from everyone on that stage.

@@middaywasted3653 It depends on the process, but most great film composers for example will have their work orchestrated as it's such a lengthy and involved process. I used to work for a film composer and his orchestrator was even more talented than him. Vai could've well written the parts or the flesh of the orchestral arrangement and then given it to Opperman. My point is, having an orchestrator doesn't take away all the credit!

"For the love of god" is an italian saying "Per l'amore di dio", which is an invocation and as a supplication formula. Something like: "Please make it happen, for as much as we love god". This has little to do with Mr. Vai or his talent, he just borrowed the saying, probably from his italian grandma, to name this beautiful song, probably thinking: "Please make it happen, for as much as we love god" and he did did the his best to succeed...

Man, it amazes me what people can do when they set their minds to it. Imagine how many hours or even days total he has spent practicing the guitar. I'm new to it and after attempting to play simple songs, it just blows my mind how anyone could get this good. But I know it's achievable. Don't let these legends make you feel small, after all, there was a time when they were in your same position.

+Brandon Thornton infact, when I started playing guitar, as a kid, together with other mates, seeing Steve Vai or Malmsteen playing didn't make me feel bad...on the contrary, I was feeling happy, because I knew that, one day, after practising and studying and making hard efforts, I could have reached a good technique. Fact is...technique can be built, but not also musical talent :) Or maybe...anyone who loves music has musical talent, because the right part of his / her brain is ready to music. Of course , we have to stimulate it :) great comment, anyway

Dreaming#11 I know Vai practiced a lot. Upwards of 10 hours or so a day. I mean hours as in total hours, and days as in how man 24 hour intervals. Both of which could very well add up to years. I'm sure he's spent years total. Not sure about decades, though. Either way, he didn't get this good overnight, that's for sure. I strongly admire his determination.

I remember when I first saw him live in Belgrade, Serbia in 2005. Although we saw many live videos of his performances we all listened to this in complete silence with our jaws dropped. It's something completely different watching him in person. After he finished performing this piece a guy standing next to me turned around and started pushing through the crowd towards the exit. His friend asked him where was he going and he yelled "I'm going home to throw away my guitar, get drunk and cry in the corner".

Steve has incredible precision and timing, as always, but this is next level for sure, to be able to stay locked in with an orchestra, whose players are very strict as to what is on the written page, and yet he still goes wild without missing a beat - just WOW!!!
