He was so humble. Julia Roberts told a story about how she was excited to meet him at the Golden Globes and waved at him from her table. He didn’t wave back. She ran into him later and asked why he didn’t wave back, and he was so apologetic. He didn’t believe that a star like her would wave at him, genuinely didn’t believe that she was waving at HIM, so he didn’t want to embarrass himself by waving back.

It's interesting how they are talking in this clip how James wasn't like Tony, a bit of a hippy, educated, music lover. So if Tony the Family man and Tony the mob boss weren't close to James, I imagine Tony in therapy was close to his real character. In therapy Tony was thoughtful, observant and self doubting. I remember one scene where he just proclaims, 'Who cares, I'm just some fat crook from Jersey.' Demeaning himself, he's a powerful mob boss, but views himself as nothing. While not as self deprecating, clearly James was this massive figure, big guy, intimidating and a huge star, but he was super humble, didn't think of himself highly. It's an interesting dichotomy, perhaps one Chase took note of.

One of my favorite lines is from the pilot. Tony runs over that business man who owed him money. Broke his leg. The guy is crying and Tony says, "why are you crying? HMO. You're covered". the camera shows the HMO sign at the office they are outside of, LOL!

Michael Imperioli nails it here when he mentions cinematic quality. Every episode of the Sopranos felt like a movie, not a television show. There were 86 episodes and it was as if it was an 86-part movie series.

Later on? He was always portrayed as a drug addict, well into the 2nd season. You can arguethat he was one since season 1, when he was in the hospital scene laying down in bed, just constantly pushing for the drip type of pain medicine. Than you had his drug addict friend Brandon, showing us that he's exactly who he hangs out with.

The greatest TV series of all time. I love Breaking Bad, Entourage, Game of Thrones, The Wire and many more, but for me... nothing comes close to The Sopranos. The character building in season 1 is the best you will ever witness in TV, that sets the tone for the entire project. It truly is a masterpiece and James will always be sorely missed.

I do agree that Soprano's was the greatest and opened the doors to a new era of television which is still chasing elements of the series to this day. Don't get me wrong, it's a good show, I enjoyed it, but it's filled with over exaggerated cliches, like the cartels, the twins, unrealistic scenarios, the characters don't even speak real Spanish and in general it feels more caricaturesque while The Sopranos makes you feel you're watching real human beings.

Hes The Man, respected and feared by some bad dudes. But at the same time, his charming little smile, his displays of affection, even his temper tantrums are child like and innocent in a way. Such a great character and James Gandolfini portrayed him in such an amazing dimensional way.

The story he told involved James essentially bank rolling a night of drinking and eating for the soldiers that had attended the premiere and just genuinely caring to know them.
