Jay Z does this where the essence of the verse we hear is freestyled/improvised but then improved upon afterward. What we hear is not a freestyle but it is derived from one. Some of these bars could have been word for word, flow for flow how Lu freestyled them. Based on the bars of this track it's likely that most of them were improved upon with slight touches and additions after the original freestyle which definitely consisted of more ideas, some of which are left out of the final product. This technique always produces a beautiful paradox; a polished yet rough around the edges composition that is always original and unique.

@@Chedbenno The greatness of it is that Lupe is known for being one of the best lyricist of all time, both Jay-z and Nas have confirmed that, which says alot, but he showed how effortlessly he could disarm Royce by waking up in the middle of the night and putting out a response in 2-3 hours by recording his song doing a punch-in-freestyle, toying with Royce...while Royce spent 1 week making a song just rhyming random words together, throwing subtle shots, while Lupe was rapping while talking directly to him...there is a reason why Royce never responded and got all emotional on ig live, talking about how he would kill lupe with a response, but it was all talk and no rapping, you must be in the 10% who feel Royce won 😂

I was waiting for this all morning. Been checking for the killas response as soon as Royce dropped that "silence of the lambda" Knew lupe was gonna waste no time going for the kill.

This is one of the greatest diss tracks of all time.

285,216 views on a new Lupe Fiasco video release in 2021...so nice to see that there are a lot of people out there that have superb taste. Glad to see others enjoying this art.

Lupe was actually a gangster, he pushed H for one of the biggest dealers in the Chi before he started his mixtape career, and almost joined the Latin Kings on the South Side. Then Chilly Chill (who he pushed H for) recognized his talent and created a label for Lu drop mixtapes on... which obviously was a great investment, lookin' back on it. People think Lu just some nerdy nigga, when the irony is that brother is one of only a few rappers who actually dealt and lived that life. And even more irony is Lu almost never even raps about it.

Had to come back and listen to a real response after hearing Kendrick & Cole’s responses to one another.

I'm happy too because as much as i love Royce, He deserved all the credit he got with Prhyme, Slaughterhouse and his last 3 or 4 albums and Bar Exams, He was getting really cocky and him walking around his house all 2020 because of the Rona, he felt himself too much and he got too political and caught up on what's happening on TV. too opinionated. Cant blame him tho, he was stuck inside all day. And then Royce was weird on the podcast, i guess its their "friend dynamic" but it didnt seem geniune. Lupe is a goddamn monster.

That exactly Lupe's point. If you want to prove whose a better rapper, a battle ain't the way to do it. First problem is that it's not objective because of the audience and their biases and second, you can diss and how deep you cut matters more than how well structured your lyrics are.

Well, Mickey was lyrical Miracle while slapping Royce at the same time. Lupe was chill and just pointed out the facts. Mickey did both. Royce raped well but he wasn't really on Lupe's neck like they were on his. The entire rap was a Royce slap with personals and disarming from both Lupe and Mickey. meanwhile Royce was 90% lyrical General and 10% talking about Lupe.

@drjonesey5 Mickey Factz was less lyrical than people give him credit for on that track. The issue with several of his triple entendre with word play is that it sometimes distracts from the message. What does a man cave have to do with the beef? What does Deadpool have to do with the beef. That and other reason made it hard for me to take it too seriously because he was playin. Lupes shit was scathing - going at the core of Royce. Describing and putting a spotlight on Royce's two faces - his hypocritical behavior etc. Lupe was talking to him and us. That's why it had impact! Everyone felt it. Lupe was really going at Royce and cutting deep. Mickey had some fun jabs but I don't remember a single thing that he went after royce as a person about except checking boxes.
