Who better to represent the city of Chicago than Lupe Fiasco as the responses flood in to Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse. Lupe releases "SLR 2 (Super Lupe Rap 2)."

Shoaib K But made Drogas Light? Lool
@raheemj.lawrence8551

Let me teach all you monkeys on Lupe. Drogas Light is a collection of old songs in Lupe's vault, of course some of them will be crap, just like LASERS was, because Atlantic Records give almost no creative freedom to some of their artists, if their music isn't good enough, or mainstream enough. Lupe even admitted that DROGAS Light is bad, because they're all old songs just crumpled into an album, it's just something to keep us satisfied before DROGAS Waves is released (this year or next). He chose not to make songs that Atlantic wanted him to make, and rathe r made songs that pleased Lupe himself rather than the mainstream and the radio. And consequently, his time at Atlantic was horrible, he in effect gained a bad reputation, and therefore slowly faded out of the spotlight from 2013 onwards, to now, where kids have hardly heard of him. Technically yes he did fall off, remember Superstar went platinum, and Battle Scars went platinum, so did The Show Goes On (3x I think, correct me if I'm wrong), and DROGAS Light only sold 14,000 copies in its first week. Impressive for an independent release (techincally it was released on First & Fifteenth and Sony respectively), but yes, compared to his previous sales and statuses of his first two album and singles of that phase for Lupe, it dwindles majorly.
@Nr4747
6 жыл бұрын
You are clearly an idiot and ignorant of all the strife that Lupe constantly had with Atlantic Records - a battle that Lupe has been *very* vocal about and repeatedly rubbed salt in the wound by releasing his best songs on free mixtapes like "Lost in the Atlantic" (which is another jab at Atlantic Records).

Lupe doesn't have to be king, he's more like a king assassin. Mean beat. Intellectual sarcasm. He spits fire and freezes dudes. He's got lyrical philosophers deciphering his metaphors on a biblical level. His words will come so silently and so quickly that you almost never catch em. He is Vendetta to the rap game. He ain't all about the superficial things either, there are bigger things going on in his mind. And saying he's some typical rap king or rap god is trying to slap a label on a person who doesn't even exist on this plane. And yeah I'm guilty of hyping him up and over analyzed his work (which is always open to individual translation), but I never even bothered listening to the nonsensical rap genre until others like him came up. Old school rappers set the foundation. Newer rappers that signed on took advantage of the delusions and publicity and slowly twisted music into garbage following a formula that didn't require them to try. But that pissed off everybody in the underground and spawned some of the best next gen rappers who shook everybody's way of thinking and revitalized music into combating the illusions and hypocrisy from self proclaimed statuses. I love these next gen rappers man, their music is deep, real, hopeful, and empowering in a society that needs a voice for progressivism when real world corruption is trying to take us backwards.

Lol Kendrick knows he ain't on Lupe's level he just brought the best in Lupe out by calling em out. Lupe was just waiting for someone to try and step to his level. Lupe dont give a fuck about your greatest rapper discussions he knows hes lyrically the best conscious rapper. He just sits there and let's new rappers fight for the bubblegum pop rapper award while he drops whatever the fuck he wants. If he feels like dropping a radio friendly song he still spits the truth on it listen to old school love!! Thats how radio hits should be

This is the most entertaining "Control" response. I've already replayed it 3 times in 12 minutes. I appreciate that no matter what you may think of a big name in the game (Ross, Wayne, Cam'ron, etc) as long as they have a definable, distinguishable flow/style, they're doing SOMEthing right. Being able to pick out Lupe's very clear impressions of Meek Mill's, Ross's, Weezy's, T.I.'s, and 50's style within the song says something about other rappers who don't have their own steeze at all - Or even worse, who sound like someone else entirely. I feel that even at the most basic skill level, you should, as a rapper, at LEAST strive to have your own sound -- If NOTHING else, be able to get identified if/when someone is using your flow. It's a damn good start.

@raheemj.lawrence8551
6 жыл бұрын
@Nr4747

LOL he rapping like the wackest rappers in the game but he still murders this track!!
Lupe please come rescue us again.
Take me back to 2013. I miss my college days 😭

Ale Barajas True, they're great too. Rakim is definitely top 15 for me, and I can appreciate Kool G Rap, just don't listen to him that often.

Logan Wendt They are my top two of all time. Lyrically Rakim and kool g rap where pretty much the originators of everything that you see. Kool g rap was the one who developed strong wordplay and a chopper, fast flow that mashed together. That's where pun and em got their flows. Rakim literally wrote the book of lyricism. From multis to similes. If Rakim is not even in your top 10 then I don't know what planet you are on. My top 10 ever goes 1. Rakim 2. Kool G rap 3. Krs 1 4. Big daddy kane 5. Big Pun 6. Nas 7. Big L 8. Mf Doom 9. Andre 3k 10. Black Though

“It’s hard being a Lupe fan” 😂🙏🏽
Best response to Kendrick's verse by far. Took his message of competition to heart and killed it.
This is the song that introduced me to Lupe
"No matter how far you go, you will reflect me." Maybe there is no TPAB wihtout a Food and Liquor to pave the way.

it's funny as shit you think kendrick had that nigga in mind when making an album that's lyrically and sonically completely different
I respect lupe so much that when he said King Los is the best, I checked him out. And so glad I did. Thanks to lupe for King Los exposure.

Just check out his freestyles for starters.. His projects, especially his last one, are usually pretty bad because he tries to mimic stale mainstream trends and dumb down his lyricism to reach a wider audience.

Jon Raymond I really loved Los's freestyles, his music on the other hand not too much. It seems he tries too hard to make radio music. All he needs is a good producer and be himself, could be one of the best.

+Mohammed W. Alshalalfeh they don't play Lupe Fiasco on the radio anymore not since Lasers. I love Kendrick but there is a reason he never responded to this song and SLR3 Kendrick is not on Lupe level go listen to Peace Of Paper Cup Of Jayzus, Dumb It Down, The Cool, The Coolest, Light Blue, Mural.I could on and on. Lupe Fiasco>Kendrick. Kendrick is not even the best MC in Black Hippy it goes Ab-Soul-Schoolboy Q-Jay Rock-Kendrick Lamar it's just Kendrick gets more exposure then Lupe and the rest of Black Hippy does.
Lupe ate 😂🔥 2023 we still here 🔥
had to come back to this at least once year to put rap in perspective.. Dammm Lupe this is one the best verses ever.

If you’re listening in 2024 you are a Legend.
I never paid much attention to this response and I have now realized that this was easily the best response! Wow, Lupe is a beast!

@rubyreduxx kendrick still has never came at lupe after lol. Honestly, I'll say kendrick reached a new level, but I don't think there's anything they could even diss each other about.
It's a damn good start.
who’s here after the Cole diss? Atleast Lupe didn’t apologize

If you actually understand the things lupe is saying... my goodness. Kendrick is good especially cause he appeals to everyone. But lupe is damn near bombastic in the way he raps. You have to be an intellectual to keep up.
I’ve listened to this a trillion times and it never gets old. THESE ARE REAL FUCKING BARS.
Just played this today - Lupe raps harder than most
Thing about Lupe is he goes over so many ppl heads that they overlook him. You have to take a cpl spins of his songs to open up new meanings. I still listen to songs like Mural and hear triple entendres and esoteric metaphors.
This song still hard asf. Here in 2024
For real though, like for reeeeeaaallll we still bumping Emperor Lu in 2022.
Somebody needs to make an AI version of this where each rapper he's mocking is actually their voice.

Does need competion to bait them gems out tho. so kendrick is doing his job for without competition nothing would flow everything would come to a standstill and stagnate around those who are self congratulating and dancing around the slow buring fire that is past accolades.
Took me nth but 10yrs for these bars to hit😂😂
