Steroid Nation | Newsbeat Documentaries

Investigating claims steroid use in gyms is on the rise. We hear from a user and a dealer as health experts say anabolic steroids are being used more than ever before. Doctors are warning about the long term dangers of using them. We see Gareth, who's 29 and has been using them for five years, undergoing a test to see if his health has been damaged. He says he likes how steroids make him feel and look. A steroid dealer also talks about how he knows he's breaking the law but sells them anyway. As well as how he's seen a big growth in demand from all ages, but especially young men, under pressure to have the 'perfect' body.

If hes cycling and not using crazy doses those should all fall back to normal range in no time. Hell some pros have been "on cycle" for 10+ years taking only a few weeks of a lower dose here and there. The liver is the most resilient organ in the body. Now dont get me wrong you can overdo iy and bad life habbits combined witj steroid use will exponentially augment your risks of permanent/severe problems. Alcohol abuse drug abuse lack of sleep poor diet smoking will all make any of these problems much worse. Everyone talks about how oral steroids are hard on the liver but one night of binge drinking does worse than an oral cycle. Not to mention alcohol abuse will screw your natural hormone production extensively.

Left ventricular internal diameter, wall thickness, and left ventricular mass were all larger in the athletes." All athletes have thicker heart wall. It's a result of the required blood pressure for the muscles (wich is larger than a non-athlete) to work properly under heavy load. Anabolic androgenic steriods affect skeletal muscle gene expression, not the heart scince it's a cardiac muscle. It's easy to sit here and write comments about his health when you know nothing about the science behind it. Of course AAS can damage your body, but that's highly depending on doses and types of steriods (some are worse than others obviously). The only thing they say with this test is "yeah you have athletes heart, cause you're an athlete" so nothing is wrong with your heart. They should have analyzed his blood also, that would tell much more about his overall health (HPTA bloodwork, red blood cell count, cholesterol, AST, ALT).

The doctor even states that in the future their may be complications, if tested again, then they would be able to determine if this is the case.

My T levels went way high after I changed my application spot to upper arms only, and it shot my red blood cells and Blood Pressure through the roof. I had to go get a pint of blood drawn to get it down. Now I don't screw around and go with the old spot, am happy with the healthy levels TRT gives me, and don't try to push it up higher. I also don't skip blood work anymore. 😁

I've actually been told by a doctor while I was abroad that testosterone in low doses it's actually beneficial for older men. Your likely to have more problems with low testosterone than you are having optimal testosterone. Also has a massive impact on depression. Fixes depression without all the sides of anti depressants that a doc wouldn't think twice about prescribing you. When your 80 your virtually crippled. I wonder if that's because you've virtually no testosterone 🤔 🤔. No muscle, weak bones and a sun dried prune for a cock. Pharmacy's don't want us to live longer or stay healthy because the money doesn't come in. There's a difference between steroid use and steroid abuse. Granted he's not on trt doses.

Taking testosterone can be beneficial if you are hypogonadel. But you can't really talk about optimal testosterone levels since it depends on the individual. Some people can have low test but be very test sensitive and thus be fine. For example if you look at the test levels of the olympians they where all over the chart and i actually think the average between them where even lower than the general average. Taking TRT is however not going to help you live longer since testosterone have some adverse health effects, but it might help you live better. Also taking low doses of test is probably less dangerous than drinking and for sure less dangerous than smoking.

Dave K- I agree. Any person who claims to be trans needs to go to psychiatric evaluations first before such treatments and it's a gender disorder. All hormone medication is under control by an Endocrinologists. Psychiatrists and Endocrinologists are generally reluctant to provide hormone therapy to youths under 16. This video sounds more like an addiction not comparable, imo. Trans people becoming men take hormones but it's not the same testosterone people in this video take. I,m 67, all l do, just for my health is: DIPS/PULLUPS/PISTOLS, 10 sets of each (5 bodyweight and 5 weighted) 10 - 20 reps each set, 4 times a week. (also a load of CALFS after breakfast) Each workout done nonstop...no rest between sets. With a view to keeping my cardio vascular system in good order, as the number 1 goal. Any increase in size at my age is a little bonus, not a priority. When your old, your HEALTH, not building the worlds biggest biceps is your NUMBER 1 PRIORITY. Even doing this workout for years... has taken its toll on my shoulders, elbows, and knees....not enough to make me quit....but you certainly feel it now and then. You don,t realise how shallow some of this is till you age....then you realise people don,t care how big you are. Young people want to swan around posing themselves of. I have never been a bodybuilder as such. I prefer to call my self a keep fitter. But as a layman, l think bodybuilding today is dreadful, compared to when Frank zane ruled in the 70s. These young people are going to regret taking this crap as they age.....they will then realise, to late that HEALTH is your most valuable asset....without which NOTHING MATTERS.

I'm 47 and only been back at the gym for 12 months and with no drugs, it's only the last couple of months where it actually looks like I train at all :D I started with 5x5 3 days/week and last month and a bit, switched to 6 days push/pull/legs and that is definitely working. Slow, but it's working (I have a great app that calculates my 1RM based on the weight/reps and it's slowly increasing across the board). It's funny about him commenting about aching and what not. I get that too - when I don't eat right. If I eat and sleep right though, I recover just in time for the next time I repeat the same routine. So in that aspect, no need for drugs, just have to learn how to train right, eat right and sleep right. I'm also learning that age is not really a factor so long as you have no major injuries (I'm talking like skeletal problems basically). I just train smart: use a custom made leather weight belt, SBD knee sleeves and elbow sleeves. Idea is to do hypertrophy on your muscles not your joints, I'm old enough to be know I'm not invincible haha. I did have some ankle problems, but between weights and jump rope, they have strengthened to the point they don't bother me anymore. I'm only 165 cm tall. Went from 95.5 kgs -> 69.5 kgs and now sitting around 76 kgs after 1 year at the gym. I'm leaner then I was after I dropped below 70 kgs, although nothing amazing, like 19% body fat. Just happy to look relatively normal and not feel like a fat slob whose a heart attack waiting to happen. If you saw me on the street, well, you would think I probably train but wouldn't think much of it. To me though, I look and feel DRAMATICALLY different.... but it was slow. It's taken 20 months to go from truly unhealthy (15 years of a desk job and bad eating habits with zero exercise) to actually fit. People use steroids because they think they CANNOT do it any other way. That, is bull shit and kinda sad. You cant be Mr Olympia w/o steroids. You can be jacked and tan though :D
