Britain's Steroid Epidemic | Men's Health UK

Спорт

It's currently estimated there are around 60,000 steroid users in the UK. Unofficially - it's thought to be closer to a million.
Amidst a continually rising steroid culture, Men's Health UK explores what this could be mean for the average gym-goer, how (if at all) it could be prevented and the varying dangers of juicing.

Fairly ironic considering Men's Health has had so many men on their covers that are both using steroids and on top of that the pictures have perfect angle, makeup and photoshop.

Has it been established beyond doubt it was the roids that caused the liver damage? The orally taken ones are heavy on the liver, but intramuscular jabs not so much. More often than not casual gym goers take gear to get big, to show off at parties where alco and drugs such as amphetamine or cocaine are consumed in hectolitres.

I've been working out since I was 22, now 39. Never took steroids, but considered them a lot. Although I'm at 112kg reasonably lean (for a natty) and my strength is better than ever, you can't reach the granite hard look you get from steroids. The round full muscle bellies, the pumped look all day long, the extra strength, the recovery,... For me it's insulting when the typical Test E/Deca beef head talks about his consistency and hard work being the main factor. Cut the bull man, I work out 5-6 days a week for years, my diet is on point and we ALL know that you wouldn't have reached those results without the steroids. Even if you kept everything else on the same level.

That's the truth. You can look great (better than the first guy lol) while being all natural. But yes, you'll never get that same look as the bodybuilders or physique guys without the gear. I've taken more than a few cycles over the years. I felt my best and looked almost as good when I put in the real work and stayed natural for years on end. Yet it was hard work, nutrition, sleep, cardio and lifts... all regimented and perfect. When I was juicing, I would just eat like a monster and crush weights.

It's a shame that when they start talking about "side effects "of testosterone, they don't clarify that they are referring to supraphysiologic doses. If an older man has very little testosterone production left, and supplies his body with the amount he produced when he was 20 (100-200mg per week), there will be nothing but benefit and no side effects considering that he is just supplying what he was already producing naturally when he was younger.

This is almost never discussed. Our bodies are over 60 percent water. We need it to survive but if you drink too much you can get hyponatremia which is life threatening. Spinach is good for you….eat too much and you get kidney stones. Wine is full of antioxidants and a glass with dinner is healthy. Drink a bottle everyday and the effects on the body and mind are a thousand times worse than steroid abuse. There is a liquor store around every corner even though 400 people die every day in the USA from alcohol abuse. Alcohol is socially acceptable though. Sugar is socially acceptable as well and look how many people abuse it. Sugar abuse is way more detrimental to the body than steroid abuse is. Point is EVERYTHING in excess is bad for you. Key is moderation. Every time there is a documentary on the effects of steroids they interview people who abuse it and take multiple compounds at extremely high doses for long periods of time and never cycle. Id like to see some research done on people who take a moderate or even a higher than normal dose of just testosterone and cycle properly allowing the body to recover between cycles.

Push they’re bodies past what’s natural! The accountant they interviewed even said he didn’t feel like he belonged in the gym before he started using steroids. That is clearly a person who does not have a competitive nature, was never really athletic or lifted weights before he started taking steroids. But these guys are the majority of steroid users.. Just because someone is taking a drug doesn't necessarily mean they know how to use it correctly, or to not abuse it. Look at smokers, drug addicts, obese people and many others in society where an addiction, or in this case using a drug a lot, does not correlate with positive outcome. Now the proper roid heads you're used to are the top 1% of body builders. Don't forget those people have competed in actual shows and most likely have trainers and dieticians and actually go to their doctors for blood work.

@@Unavalivle yeah i agree, some of the top 1% are actually very well educated because they have to be to be competitive. The real epidemic is with these gullible, lazy people who think that injecting some test into your ass will do all the work for you. The roids aren't for me - I love pushing my shitty natty physique as far as I can go for a laugh, and I'll retire with a full bag of testicles. But yeah, if you're willing to sacrifice a lot to get to the top 1%, respect to you. It's a totally different mindset to these average joes in the video.

You can't stop them. All you can do is educate them. I've taken a ton of steroids in my life. I'm 41 and in the best shape of my life. I'm not saying steroids are good for you, but I'm not necessarily saying they are bad. Take this into consideration... Testosterone is in your body already naturally. Things like caffeine and alcohol are completely foreign to our systems and are considered poisons. So which do you consider more safe? It's NONE of them. It's all in the amount of the drug consumed. 1 shot of testosterone wont hurt you but neither will a cup of coffee or beer, but 50 shots of testosterone in a short time or 50 cups of coffee or shots of whiskey will definitely not help your health. The mixing of steroids with hard drugs and designer PED's is what puts you at risk of developing health problems. I bet you can take 1,000,000 men and give them all 1 shot of test a week for years and they would be perfectly fine. Why that wouldn't work is because of all the addictive nature of our minds that tell us that if a little test is good then more must be even better. That's when you realize the addictive mind process has started and its damn near impossible to not also go out and buy some debol or tren to "Amp" up the little test you already started. Well hell. You might as well go buy some tranquilizers to help you fall asleep now and some amphemines to wake u up in the morning. Now lets not forget all the painkillers we need now because of over training, the not sleeping. Now does anybody out there understand where I'm going with this?

Many people never get big because they either overtrain or they don’t program their programs correctly for hypertrophy. Look up the KZreadd vitruvian physique. While his career is fitness he only trains for an hour or two a day and he made a great video on natural vs steroid using body builders backed up by scientific studies. In making this video, they should have interviewed a model or athlete they've previously promoted or worked with in some way to talk about their steroid use. I recognise that most people who use steroids won't ever look like Phil Heath, but it would have been good to have included a third person who actually did have a physique which couldn't be obtained naturally, okay maybe not a mass monster but someone with a figure like John Meadows or along those lines.

I always felt that being natural looking , meaning slimmer is way better not to mention healthier. Some of these absurdly big guys get out of breath just by talking to you. Then again a lot of normal guys actually take steroids , they look natural and have a good physic , but they are not abusing anything just using it smartly. And in a lot of cases they use them if their natural testosterone production is a bit lower which happens quite more often than people think.

actually a study was done which showed men who didnt exercise but were on steroids in fact put on more muscle than the men who were not on steroids and did exercise. you have to be incredibly more dedicated as a natural lifter than as a roider.

I’m sooo thankful for videos like these that take me away from t! I considered steroids until I watched videos like these where the drawbacks are mentioned. Working out for me isn’t a way to be bigger, bulkier, or look a way. It’s for my own health, meaning steroids are out

7:55 ish, *I’m a nurse and can confirm that the amount of air you could potentially get in a syringe to inject gear even if it goes into a vein will not cause issues. It takes the amount of air a main IV line can hold before it causes issues intravenously(the IV lines are that length for a reason), which is I believe about 30 ML. If it goes into an artery then yes a small amount of air can cause an air embolism, but unless you’re doing intramuscular injections in your neck near your corroded artery it would be very very hard to inject it into an artery.*

This stood out to me too. Hilarious that he says you need to be educated about these things, immediately after rabbiting a myth; demonstrating a complete lack of education on the matter 😂. Injecting an entire 2ml syringe of air into a vein won’t do anything.

Nah, they're just fucking idiots. This trend with steroids in the UK started when they saw bodybuilders in America via social media and wanted to be like them. They were too dumb to realize that the guys in the U.S. were probably athletes first before they even thought about touching roids, plus not everyone over here is a mentally/emotionally challenged moron like you have in the UK. I'm a British ex pat so I know.

I don't take steroids, but how many of these 60,000 /1,000,000 men are older or younger with naturally low testosterone?? Do we want men to have miserable lives?? Doctors in the UK don't want to give any men testosterone even it could change their lives for the better, most men would pay for the treatment just to become normal again. How many women get therapy for menopause?? Perhaps you should do a documentary for how many women get hormone therapy in the UK??

This is why it’s hard to appreciate nice physiques these days. These guys who have slightly above average bodies by taking roids make it so you can’t even tell who is and isn’t taking them (unless they’re a huge bodybuilder).
