@@jeffross9982 He is not an elite grappler, everyone knows that. But to say that he doesn't have takedown defense is an ignorant statement. He has been taken down a lot but almost always managed to get up and eventually escaped. He's takedown defense is not high level but it's decent.

My man just proved once again he’s got one of THE most effective stand up styles the UFC’s ever seen, crazy he’s almost 40. What an absolute beast.

Thompson had a great performance tonight. He’s one of the last great - exciting traditional martial artists in the UFC. We should all respect and appreciate this guy while he is still here representing the art of Karate!

Hard to know how kevin hurt his hand, but I tend to agree with the commentators that it was probably from blocking those head kicks with his hand. I find that fascinating because wonderboy talks a lot about blasting kicks into a fighter's arms to do damage.

I think WB is a better striker than Edwards but he is more of a complete mixed martial artist. It would be a really fun fight but I think Edwards wins it with wrestling and clinch work.

The only reason fighters slow down is cuz of their style involves taking head to the head. Ppl like wonder body style is literally anti committing n anti brawl his head is as health as young fighter. Prime age contrary to popular believe is late 30s that's when the knowledge and body cross each other.

As a lifelong karate/Kickboxing guy myself he is adapted to ufc so well. You can't stand with this guy. In the striking department aside from a lucky KO punch nobody in the division could beat him in striking. He's so accurate.

My first thought was WB is probably bigger and longer than McGregor. That and I don't think McGregor will be as mobile anymore, he was already moving less before the leg break.

@@WhiskeyToro nah, mcgregor slows down a lot when he moves up in weight, his body is not used to it. And nevermind he's in jacked out city at the moment. WB is a comfy 170lber and he just showed us how fast he is be it movement, punches or kicks. Mcgregor might catch him but WB will eat his legs alive. He's a nice guy but his game plans have always been to cripple you via your most obvious weaknesses. Mcgregor wouldn't want to fight wonderboy, he's afraid his leg will get done again, these injuries change you mentally.

He hasn't aged since he came into the UFC

Thompson with another masterful performance somewhat to what he did against Geoff Neal, but more like Tony vs Gaethje when it came to damage and slowly picking someone apart. Hope Thompson gets a big fun fight next instead of someone like Khamzat, Colby or Shavkat who gonna take him down...

Even in the holland fight when he was getting cracked you could tell he didn’t want any parts of that lol but his elusiveness and his ability to move the way he does is what allows him to fight those heavy handed guys

Thompson looked incredible. Pretty amazing speed and skills. Most people slow quite a bit by 38-39. One of the best fights this year for sure.

Yeah I thought prior that in this fight Thompson would show his age. Like Tony Ferg against chandler was fresh and fast but against Diaz he was like half as fast. Thought that was gonna happen but I clearly was wrong xp

Phenomenal fight, phenomenal performance. Holland hung for a few rounds and looked good too but Wonderboy was a relentless vet who kept his composure and just kept hammering. What a show by both.

holland just isnt elite level comp.

Wonderboy is impossible not to root for. Dude is a hero, mentally and physically. It's plausible he could take on Edwards for the belt after a rematch on Masvidal, would love to see Wonderboy retire as a legend.

Tf 😂 Masvidal is trash and will not get anybody a title shot at this point. It ain’t 2019 anymore. There’s guys ahead of him who he’s already lost to. That’s a problem. Burns and Belal. There’s Covington up there still. Khamzat. And obviously Leon and Marty Usman. Thompson looked phenomenal on the feet, but that title picture is crowded and VERY tough, especially stylistically. They asked him a couple times what he wants next and he wouldn’t say, but it’ll be interesting to see what the matchmakers try to do with him

The technique from wonderboys kicks is amazing. For the first part of the kick it looks like he's just flicking it out there then he snaps it over and it sounds like a baseball back slamming into his opponent. A life time of karate has fine tuned them.

Happy for Wonderboy! Congrats from right down the street in Greenville! Representing upstate SC. He definitely belongs in the UFC. Proved his toughness again tonight.

Very good gameplan by WB and his team. Holland is long, unorthodox, and has heavy hands. On paper these attributes should be a huge advantage against WB's fighting style cuz he likes to control distance, counter, and unload flurries but WB was so fast and precise I think it caught Holland off guard. He also did a great job at eluding the power shots, he really only got caught once or twice. Normally when you watch someone at his age move forward with those kinds of flurries they get countered and KO'd. He's looked really good in the later part of his career, he put on a similar striking clinic against a really good Vicente Luque not too long ago as well. What a fight and what a performance.

Some people say traditional martial arts don't work. But what they need to understand is many principles in "modern" styles come from traditional martial arts. A great example is in this fight where Wonderboy nullified Kevin's primary weapon (the right hand) by attacking Kevin's right arm with kicks to Kevin's right side. This is a classic example of targeting the opponent's weapons so that they have no weapons. Straight from traditional martial arts.

Where are the people who say “traditional” martial arts are useless? Of course many traditional arts formed the base of what mma has become. Obviously. But the “mixed” aspect is also vital now as well. When your opponent straight up says we aren’t gonna grapple or wrestle, then I guess as a karate guy you’re good to go. Otherwise, you’re gonna have some serious issues if you aren’t focusing on all aspects of the fight game.

Truly incredible display of world class talent

The guy is so charismatic. Like genuinely. He’s like the popular kid in high school.

I don't think he'll ever do that. His camp is basically all his family to include Chris Weidman. He'll die on the sword before leaving his close knit group for another camp. Also, he is almost 40. While he thinks he has a lot of time for his future, I think he is an old dog that doesn't have the time to grind in another camp to hone in grapping and wrestling. I might be wrong but that's how I see it.

I watch Stephen's podcast. I love and respect this man. He is unbelievably talented and just an all around good human being. Definitely 1 of my top 5. When he throws that leg up you don't see it you only hear the crack of it hitting his opponent. Amazing! And the love he has for his Dad is incredible! ❤️
