Met Wonderboy many times. He used to come into Dave n Busters with his brother and their karate kids. Nicest guy. Always positive and totally approachable.

Because most people wouldn't watch. There's a reason why most people gravitate towards fighters like McGregor. They prefer the brash loud talking fighters. The respectful and honorable fighters don't get the same attention.

If used such as "He has been my favorite fighter for as long as I can remember" or "He has been and still is today" then it makes more sense. Another example is "He has been a chef" which implies the person used to work as a chef in the past but no longer does, compared to "He has been a chef for the last 6 years" which implies the person still is today.
