Stephen Colbert "arguing" with Khaled Hosseini on BookTV

Recent news articles have mentioned a big argument between Stephen Colbert and Khaled Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner, at a recent Book TV Expo.
Anyone actually watching on C-SPAN2 (and I was...yes, I watch C-SPAN and I know that makes me a big nerd) can tell that they were obviously just joking around with each other.
I figured a clip of the "argument" could set the record straight that there was no big "fight," just two guys joking around. (thank you C-SPAN for liberalizing your copyright policies so I can actually post it).

how can anyone say Khaled is a hatemonger?? He's done all he can to help the people of Afghanistan and Darfur. His English is wonderful and what little slang was meant in jest. He's lived here most of his life. Geez, if anyone is showing hate, it's not him. He shows love and respect and truth.

We know he is Afghan but his ethnic is tajik i think. I agree he should be mentioned as Afghan for the sake of unity, but I believe you have misinterpreted the whole message of the book. You see he desrcibes the hardships people face and he did it very accurately. He just doesn't bash Pashtuns, that wasn't the point. In his other book, one of the characters is a Pashtun who goes through hardship. He points out the social inequality in Afghanistan that's all.

@batain You make a good point. More generally on that, he is one of those successful persons who refuses to pander, and he "does" what he "is", so to speak. He therefore is genuine, and worth it to people who go for that. That's why he can have the luxury of "knowing" his audience, since they have the luxury of knowing him. His goodness is quite apparent.

When someone Arabic has something to do with the video, they automatically think he's a terrorist. And You know what I realized after watching this video.. That either people that say such comments read less than 10 books in their life (excluding the ones you were forced to read in high school because let's face it, we all know you didn't go to college) or just choose to be hateful and ignorant..

He's just trying to joke with Colbert, and Colbert was prepared to roll with it and keep the humor going, which is WHY he is the "MC" of that event. Would you miss a chance to avoid a dryly serious speech and instead get the Colbert machine fired up with a little humorous provocation. Pleeeezzzeeee. That was funny.
