Stephen Colbert "arguing" with Khaled Hosseini on BookTV
Recent news articles have mentioned a big argument between Stephen Colbert and Khaled Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner, at a recent Book TV Expo.
Anyone actually watching on C-SPAN2 (and I was...yes, I watch C-SPAN and I know that makes me a big nerd) can tell that they were obviously just joking around with each other.
I figured a clip of the "argument" could set the record straight that there was no big "fight," just two guys joking around. (thank you C-SPAN for liberalizing your copyright policies so I can actually post it).

how can anyone say Khaled is a hatemonger?? He's done all he can to help the people of Afghanistan and Darfur. His English is wonderful and what little slang was meant in jest. He's lived here most of his life. Geez, if anyone is showing hate, it's not him. He shows love and respect and truth.

"another book about global warming" lmfao!
I don't usually watch C-Span, but I'm a fan of both these guys. Very funny clip. Thanks for posting.
Very funny thank you for posting!
We know he is Afghan but his ethnic is tajik i think. I agree he should be mentioned as Afghan for the sake of unity, but I believe you have misinterpreted the whole message of the book. You see he desrcibes the hardships people face and he did it very accurately. He just doesn't bash Pashtuns, that wasn't the point. In his other book, one of the characters is a Pashtun who goes through hardship. He points out the social inequality in Afghanistan that's all.

This guy is the best storyteller of our generation. He's also the only man to defeat Steve Colbert in debate by being funnier.

That would be funny to see, do you have those question/answer videos by any chance?
this was so awesome
People actually thought they were really arguing? Gullible folk.
Love it! You can tell Stephen's getting a kick out of it when Khaled is speaking. XD
Thank you!
"The attack on the Kite Runner" spiel is a play on his roasting of the Bush entity.
@batain You make a good point. More generally on that, he is one of those successful persons who refuses to pander, and he "does" what he "is", so to speak. He therefore is genuine, and worth it to people who go for that. That's why he can have the luxury of "knowing" his audience, since they have the luxury of knowing him. His goodness is quite apparent.
AHAHAHAHAHAHA "It is unamerican to diss the kite runner"
so much love!
That was hillarious :-)
haha- a good example of how civilized ppl can SHARE their opinions without one being offended or insulted.
Man, thank God for the internet and cable TV. The World would be a terrible place if Colbert had never got a chance. No idea who this hassiesisswhasit guy is, but just being in proximity to Colbert makes him awesome.
read the book... dont pre judge or be too critical :) that goes for everyone
When someone Arabic has something to do with the video, they automatically think he's a terrorist. And You know what I realized after watching this video.. That either people that say such comments read less than 10 books in their life (excluding the ones you were forced to read in high school because let's face it, we all know you didn't go to college) or just choose to be hateful and ignorant..
Love Stephen's little scruff there. He is always so clean shaven but you know he said "F@&^ it... it's Book TV!" when he got up that morning.
WOOOO CSPAN!
lol, I totally said that to someone. "it's about a kid who loves kites and running, obviously" to someone who asked what that book was about. :P
Hence the " " over arguing
They're not fighting, they're having fun.
Never seen Stephen with anything but a clean shaven face
were can i read mr.douchypance coments about the book i bet their funny
I love both of them. hahahaha
I wonder what news network could possibly see an argument in this...
Truly a class act. Too bad there's not enough of these to go around, maybe then the media could distinguish the difference.
He use to go to Independence High School,SJ CA@ I go to Independence High School, SJ, CA. OMG OMG OMG! XD Khaled Hosseini and Stephen Colbert are so awesome.
Never read the other book but the kite runner was really good
You're a true patriot of America, ma'am.
Loved the Kite Runner, thought A Thousand Splendid Sons was the most depressing book I have ever read, still fantastic though.
they look like they're having fun
love it......!!!
goodness is THAT what that is? i thought i was the fuzziness of the screen.
it just makes it clear that they only want drama, and gossip - not to spread unbiased information like they should :(
He's just trying to joke with Colbert, and Colbert was prepared to roll with it and keep the humor going, which is WHY he is the "MC" of that event. Would you miss a chance to avoid a dryly serious speech and instead get the Colbert machine fired up with a little humorous provocation. Pleeeezzzeeee. That was funny.
did he really trash the book on amazon?
It was filmed at 8 A.M. He had to be there before that. Poor Stephen, haha.
HAHAHA! i love them both. and this book.
stephen colbert w/ a mustache? :O
Hahaha, I just finished this book. It's ridiculously heartbreaking
wow, and I didn't think there'd ever be a reason to watch C-SPAN, nonetheless C-SPAN 2! And is it just me or is Hosseini's voice similar to a computerized text to speech voice?
Because it's a masculine statement. Girls are attracted to anything masculine, even when it's only subconsciously. That's how they're programmed by nature. Anyway, I loved Stephen's response. To me, he's amazingly intelligent and witty and spontaneous.
Colbert is the greatest man who ever lived
o_o; So because Hosseini was laughing and smiling at all of Colbert's jokes, that OBVIOUSLY meant there was a fire of rage burning beneath his skin? wow. xD
Why not??
WHO'S COULTER?
You also a true American patriot.
Stephen Colbert is playing a character. He plays the role of a philistine conservative. That's why the people were laughing see. If that really went over your head then you aren't exactly an "Ace".
Hilarious. Kind of pathetic that it was construed as an actual fight. Either the media outlets didn't bother to check into it or they were pandering for attention.
Never seen Colbert with a scruff.
Khaled Hossaini - you are great!!!!!!!!
heh you just said: " im not sure some of you "get" """"steven""""" colbert. "LOL cute xD
colbert has a unique sense of apologising.
great book
omg ME TOO! seriously i always wonder
definitely need to read a thousand splendid suns!! You'll not regret. I highly recommend it to ya!
Um, he doesn't support Bush. His character does. And yes, that was a joke speech. That was the whole point...
very funny response from Colbert
Haha, girls. They sure love the shadow. They say they don't, but I always have more luck with them when I've got one.
He has more class than that.
Khaled Hosseini is SOOO funny. Oh truly original jokes...
both guys soo funny- -its un-american to diss the kite runner. -women yeilding fire torches in one hand and cheap wine in the other. LOL!!
they didnt even argue
Looool so true!
omg i love Khalid he is such an amazing writer i love his book the kit erunner and im trieng to find a thousend splendid suns i could have never imagined him beeing so funny lol i love him
i read that book.. its pretty good
I almost took Stephen Colbert seriously in the beginning )
Sometimes i wonder about the mental state of these people who write down comments?
HAHAHA :)
looks like salt 'n' peppa
did Colbert cut himself shaving? I guess being all gussied up for his show must be taxing at times.
Arguing over books on TV is meaningless.
im not sure some of you "get" steven colbert.
ROFL! that was pretty funny, they dont seem to be argueing, it is obviously a joke.
hahaha i love hosseini out-colbert-ing colbert
Oh no he didn't xD Khaled is the best (Y)!
He's still hot with the scruff. Damn. And too bad he hasn't read the kite runner. it's an amazing book, haha.
me too!
you seem angry? haha great book both of them no joke
thats too easy
this is hilarious
You're complaining about the word 'Yank', and you're defending your position by calling them 'Limey'? *sigh* My head hurts...
Mystery that is women? A hole instead of a prick? What kind of mystery is that?
@yaboyjay88 hes an afghan and his stories have absolutely nothing to do with terrorism or politics
Of course it's a joke.SIlly people
I was in a class one time with a young woman from Iran who thought the Kite Runner was bull.
