My mom had breast cancer just like Shannen, and she was at stage 4 but never told anyone. She had a great sense of humor and often entertained the doctors during her chemo appointments. She had a strong will to live, to keep fighting, and she fought very hard but sadly lost the battle to breast cancer on January 21, 2017 at the age of 52. She’s been gone 7 years now but I’ll always remember her great sense of humor, her smile, her laughter. Shannen, you were taken too soon but you’re now at peace. Rest in peace.

I was diagnosed last year. Currently recovering from a surgery. Shannen had said cancer makes you so much more aware of everything around you and I find it so true! I have just been watching little birds outside my window all morning, and the way the sun lights up the leaves on the trees is so beautiful. I never paid attention to this stuff before but now I soak it all in and have such an appreciation for everything around me. I almost feel like a kid seeing everything for the first time again. Maybe sounds cheesy but it’s true! Wishing you continued health 💜💜

@zoefree3950 Bravo! May your days be long, healthy, full of joy and peace. My grade school pal, Deb, had a double mastectomy and is doing great. She jokes “2 things I’ve never wanted were fake boobs and tattoos. Now, I have tattooed nipples on my implants?! Go figure.” The grace, strength, humility, and humor so prevalent in survivors, and those working to be a survivor, is an inspiration, though one with sad impetus, that powerfully illustrates how great is the gift of life. My mother kept saying to me, "I'm tired of being treated like I am already dead," while she was battling multiple myeloma. I didn't understand what she was trying to tell me. But later, I discovered that my father was hanging out at his best friend's house nearly 24/7 during the week, leaving Mother totally alone in her illness and grief, basically abandoning her. It made me feel so sad for her, and then right before she died she told me that he had become abusive towards her, and she said, "I almost called one of y'all(her children)for help." So, I have observed firsthand what Shannon was talking about when she said that she felt like people were treating her like a walking corpse. It is a real problem for people who are already suffering, and it is a time that their loved ones need to be present and show support. I am glad that she brought this topic to light so that it can be recognized and talked about.

She was convinced he was cheating on her, they fought over the cost of her treatments, she had to get a job working at McDonald's, and then she moved out into her own apartment... By the time she moved back into the house she was dying. I'll never forgive my dad for the way he treated her. Then again, he sees her in me and resents me for it.

People can be very disappointing. A neighbour who had advanced breast cancer told me that she was tired of people blanking her and not being interested in how she really was (I asked her sincerely 'how ARE you?') and she said they all had speeches that sounded like an obituary. They did this to her while she is standing in front of them very much alive. They were making it all about them. It's just one more burden for the very person who most needs support and for people to be present for them. Shannon having to divorce her husband would have been very painful, and the same for your mom. They fell short of basic decency there.

Gosh, I’m truly sorry for your loss and the pain your mom had to endure. Unfortunately, we find with women who become ill/disabled that their spouses become distant, abusive and of course they cheat and/or leave. Women on the other hand will generally stay and be the dutiful and caring caregiver. We don’t talk about this enough. It’s truly heartbreaking how we treat people when they are sick/old/dying 😢

About shannon Doherty‘s passing, I saw it on Facebook because a friend of mine on Facebook posted it. And that’s how I found out. Miss Doherty, fought a long, hard battle, and I know she’s strive and tried as hard as she may, she was very positive, And, let’s remember her for that. And remember her for her kindness and warmness, may she rest in peace. 10:51

Shannen was such a spirited, courageous, kind hearted soul who never let her battle with cancer stop her from doing what she loved. She blessed us all by sharing her truth, her zest for life, her love of animals, her advocacy, her talent, strength and compassion with the world 💗 How truly blessed we are to have had her precious warrior spirit in our lives in many different ways over these past decades 🥰 I wish she never had to go through such a difficult personal battle; that we got to be blessed with her presence on this earth for much much longer 😔 However, it is a calming balm to the soul to know she no longer has to feel any pain and that she is reunited with her beloved and dearly missed father once more - wrapped up within his loving embrace 💗 You will forever be missed Shannen. Thank you for sharing your truth, for your bravery and strength, for your vulnerability, for your advocacy and for your many memorable portrayals 💗🥰 May you fly with the angels forever and always😢🕯️🕊️💗

My sister was diagnosed in 2016 with breast cancer that later spread. She passed on 12/10/2023, which was 10 days after her 43rd birthday. She looked like a 9 year old kid. Cancer took her physically and mentally. I’ve watch her go from this huge free spirit, vibrant, and fun person to a feeble little woman blanketed in nonstop pain. It was extremely sad to watch her deteriorate while feeling helpless. I felt defeated because I’m the eldest of 6 siblings and feel it’s my responsibility to protect the 5 behind me and I failed her in that reguards. She and I were very close. We were on the phones daily. On my way to work and on my way home from work. Weekends are the worse for me because we were on the phones all day and that part of my weekly cadence is no more. I’m in the US and she was back home in Guyana under the loving care of both of my parents. To Shannon’s family, I hope the good memories are enough to keep you all going. It’s a tough long road ahead. I don’t even look at pictures or videos of my sister in her bad days. Instead, I choose to focus on the good times.

I'm only a couple years younger than Doherty is, so I literally was raised during her whole career. I remember all these shows that she was in one after another as she was growing up. She was definitely very successful. I really hoped that she would win this battle. RIP Shannon Doherty.

I understand what she was saying here. When I was diagnosed with an incurable form of leukemia, it didn’t sink in right away, but eventually the weight of the words hit me like a ton of bricks. I felt like my world was caving in around me. Hearing that about yourself...it just does something to you. I felt like a part of me had just died. I'm now just past 8 years since my chemotherapy, and I've been in partial remission since a few months after the treatments. It's partial remission because even though the cancer isn't growing, I still have cancerous cells in my blood and my bone marrow. I give God the glory for every day that I have.

My mother died from breast cancer at 52. She loved life and was a vibrant and wonderful woman. I was able with my families help to quit my job and become one of two primary caregivers. I’m so glad I was able to be there during the last two years of her life. I felt I owed her that much. I too got breast cancer at 49. It’s a terrible disease. Women please get your mammograms. It can save your life.

@@lizbits9339 You may also want to look into genetic testing. It can tell you if you have the gene. Your mother had it, and you too, so you would be eligible for the test. It's a blood test. I took it because my 2 sisters had it,and one also had ovarion cancer. We have a variant I had it too. Ours came back in the gray area, It's not a yes or no. 10 percent come back that way. I had my ovaries out immediately . I've been lucky I'm 71 and so far no breast cancer. Our variant came from my mother . She's 91 and never had cancer. It's something to think about, especially if you have children ( even sons) they can pass the gene. Or if you have siblings.
