Stealth Camping Behind Bus Station

Gear I use available on Amazon - www.amazon.com/shop/stevewallis
Camera gear I use - www.amazon.com/shop/stevewallis
I found a really nice camping spot behind a transit station this week! It was a little cold, but I was well enough equipped to get through the night. There were lots of busses coming and going and transit police usually patrolling the area for troublemakers.

Steve, I am in the Army stationed at Fort Drum, NY. You have inspired me to camp out here on post in the woods just behind my apartment complex. I put up tarps and I'm basically hiding in plain sight about 50 feet in the woods. All this while the temperature has been below zero Fahrenheit. Keep up the great work. Love the channel. Oh, and just like you, I have a friend who is kind of like my "crazy neighbor." Guy wears a kilt, crocks and an earing when off duty.

My Beautiful Wife might at 69 years young, might be going into an assisted living facility ( old folks home) at the end of this month but her family has only enough money to pay for her. So I’ve been watching your videos for 2 years now, and I’ve learned so much, and I’ve accumulated a lot of the gear you’ve used when I could get it. So I’m going to stealth as best I can as close as I can to where Beautiful Wife is so I can pack up every morning and go spend the day taking care of her. You are an inspiration. If you can do it, so can I!!! Hopefully somehow I’ll be able to get a Step 2 every now and again. Please don’t feel sorry for us, because their are people a lot worse off then us!!!!!! Please help St. Jude’s Hospital that for free takes care of children. Or find the equivalent up there in my neighbors up north!!!!!! Thanks Steve for another great video!!!!!!!!

The areas Steve shows are with ample wooded cover to pull this sort of thing off; the Atlanta metro has countless places like that, given how forested north Georgia is. Late last year, a large wooded area in the city was discovered to be an entire tent camp of homeless, etc. that had been there for an indeterminate amount of time, but was sizable enough to have been established for a good while. They only got discovered when one moron among them took off on someone's bike with a GPS tracker, and rode it back there. If you're not up to no good, and keep your profile low, should be able to stealth camp some locations for multiple nights.

Here’s a suggestion for your cold feet in the wintertime. As someone who will ride my motorcycle even when it’s -25F to -30F In the wintertime, I have found battery powered heated socks to be a life saver. They last almost a full day on high and will get so warm your feet will sweat if not careful. I also use them for when I’m in a tree standing hunting late season. Have you thought about trying a pair of those? Loved the video and your meal looked quite delicious. Maybe have to try making something similar this weekend. Keep up the awesome work man. 🙂

Hey Steve, awesome video as always! One suggestion on concealment from a military guy. Your camouflage will be even less noticeable if you add some leaves and sticks to break up the lines at the top. Just gather a few more branches, leaves, or grass from the area, add them to the top and sides and bang, you’re impossible to spot.

Hey Steve, I am along time user of that little cooker, it's really great. I used to drive for a living , used it regularly. I used a lot of soup, stew, beans, etc., any thing with a easy open can. You can also use left over burgers, or hotdogs, fried chicken just wrap in foil. Put it in while driving and had a hot meal when I stopped. Had no worries about the battery. If I stopped for coffee I would get an extra put it in a glass or metal container , and had a hot coffee when I needed. P.S. The little kids. still remember me wrapping hot dogs in foil a heating it on engine manifold.

Steve! I made this EXACT meal earlier this week and i've been also using this Autotrend 12V cooker from CT for about a year and a half - as you said, amazing for road trips! The Knorr sidekick instructions are mainly for stove top where its expected bunch of liquid will be simmered off - use 60-75% of the liquid on the packet. Protip: in the same aisle as Sidekicks get a box of regular Betty Crocker (non-flavoured) instant mash potatoes - if your cook turns out too watery - add a little bit of the dehydrated potatoes, it will thicken it up nicely as well and is flavour neutral.

Ah! Winter camping - reminds me of my time in the Boy Scouts of America, about 50 years ago, and we had a "Winter Camporee" and for one of my meals, I made a cubed beef, sliced potatoes & carrots in an aluminum foil pouch over an open fire. No "Step Twos" for me way back then - I was only 15 at the time. However, your stealth adventure sure made my day it's the best part of today. Cheers! My Step Two to you! Thanks!

When I was 10, my dad who was assistant scout master for the local boy scout troop, dragged me along on a 4 day winter camp out with his troop. Thought it would be good bonding for us. It never got warmer than 10F, and was sub-zero at night with the wind chill. There was no insulated ice fishing hut or Mr. Buddy. Just layers, and sleeping bags inside of sleeping bags , under a heavy blanket. I've hated winter ever since, but I enjoy the heck out watching Steve camp in it.

I’m from the southern US where the coldest it ever gets is around 15 or so just on the very coldest nights of the year, typically around January and February, but with the winter daytime highs averaging probably around mid 40s to low 50s. Anything in the 20s is pretty rare around here, so I can’t even imagine camping in those conditions you just described, but the idea of cold weather camping for a night or two in really cold conditions seems like it would be a fun experience to have at least once. Super glad I don’t live up north though, being cold like that for a few months every year would suck lol.

Pro tip: mushrooms have extreme amounts of water in them... and when you heat them up, they will release the water and the mushrooms will shrink in size; so, rather than add a cup of water, use cream (or 1/2 and 1/2) instead of milk and just add the raw mushrooms... LOVE the cooking you do! keep up the good work!

Hi Steve, First time posting but long time enjoyer of your videos. Have to say, I've been appreciating your establishing shots more and more, they have a nice framing to them and it's clear that you are focused on the aesthetic beauty of your locations as well as providing a sense of place. That being said, I was flying in to Portland, ME from Joshua Tree and had all my camping stuff with me, and not wanting to spend money on a hotel I took inspiration from your adventures and found myself a nice little ditch in the woods outside the airport and "hunkered down". Wish I would've had a "step two" with me, but oh well. Keep up the good work my friend.
