-35 Degrees Ice Fishing Camping For First Time

I finally got out ice fishing in my ice fishing shack. I have used this tent for so many winter camping trips, but never actually got around to using it for fishing. I don't have a ton of fishing experience, so this was a learning trip for me and crazy neighbor. It was very cold, but it sure was fun!

I wish I knew there was food coming across the lake from Jungles bar and grill, I wouldn't have had those sausages haha! They are amazing folks who are going above and beyond especially with what businesses have been through lately. I have to give shoutouts where they're due, and Jungles is my well deserved place to go! The Wally's jungles north location was kind enough to host my 40th B-day and all the staff did an amazing job! They may be putting a "Hunker down" burger on the menu in the future :)

As soon as you scraped down to the ice, I said "Oh no, They are going to be wading before morning." Interlocking foam mats or leave the snow on. Even better is interlocking mats on top of the snow. A fan will double the efficiency of the heater and help reduce condensation. You have the right idea of keeping the heater up off the ice. You are right when you said that it's fun just being out there. Keep at it, you'll land one eventually!

Hi Steve! A tip I've learned for the water in front of the heater, drill a partial ice fishing hole (like half way through the ice). The water will collect in the ice hole. It is very important to drill out that partial hole all the way when you are done with that fishing/camping spot so it refrezes properly, and nobody else sprains an ankle. I highly recommend added a rechargeable portable fan or two in your ice house when running the heater. It helps tremendously in moving the heat downwards. Another tip, is doing foam matts of some sort as a base on the ice. It blocks the cold from the ice which keeps your shack even warmer! Yes of course it's more gear, but definitely worth it in my opinion! Coming from Minnesota and Ice Fishing quite a bit!

As someone who has ice fished and anchored my shack with snow, I can tell you that if you pile 3-5” of snow on your shack then stand on the snow to tamp it down very hard, your shack won’t go anywhere if wind comes up. You will need to shovel the snow off though otherwise you’ll tear the fabric (don’t ask me how I know lol). As for location each lake is different, but fish prefer a deeper location (water stays warmer deeper), and typically like to have vegetation around them. Additionally they will go dormant (unless they need food) in extremely cold weather which makes location even more important. As a fisherman that’s serious enough I have a fish finder mounted to my kayak and will also kayak fish in the ocean, I gotta say that it’s always a learning experience no matter how long you’ve been fishing. Loved the video and who cares if you catch a fish…we tune in to watch YOUR adventures. Happy New Year Mr. Wallis.

A lot of people use those foam mats that fit together like a puzzle piece for the flooring in the ice fishing tent. They’re usually used for kids play areas but work great for ice fishing. That way you’re not dealing with the puddles in the ice.

I ice fish regularly in colder weather then that. When you have a thermal insulated ice tent and a 10.000 to 18,000 btu heater like he does, the top layer of the ice melts and it gets very wet and slippery in the tent. And like I said in my comment you can get rid of the water in holes placed around the tent as long as you do not drill them all the way down/through the ice.
