Stealth Camping Behind Billboard

Things finally fell into place and I found my dream stealth camping billboard. I've been searching for years and finally found the perfect one to camp behind. I made it back from the ill-fated trip to the coast, I only got half way there before the floods washed out all the highways connecting the interior to the coast. I will have to make another camping trip as soon as things are back to normal and roads are reopened.

I love how paranoid Steve gets. Think about it. To get rumbled a motorist driving at probably 70mph about 100 metres away would have to spot a green hammock under a green tarp behind a camo net in dense forest through a 1 metre gap. All while driving looking at the road in front of them not looking for anything by the sign. After all that they would then have to decide to stop and do something about it. You're fine Steve!

Yep. I find all food tastes better when you remember some people are starving. Pretend you have been suffering even half as much, and a peanut butter fold over on stale bread seems pretty sweet. Leftover lasagna for the fifth meal in a row? Awesome. No idea what I did to deserve this, but I must have been super good in a past life. Living this way is so much better than being miserable in the lap of luxury.

Was telling one of my brother in laws about your channel, and he told me that when he was traveling and needed to sleep in his car, he would park in a hospital emergency room parking lot because people assume that you have a love one in the hospital and need sleep. I'm a drifter. About 4 years ago, I was in Idaho Falls, ID (beautiful town). It was early March, so the nights were still fairly cold. I was there a little over two weeks. The entire time, I camped under a large evergreen (spruce, I think... ?), the branches went all the way to the ground. But, just beyond the outer branches, closer to the trunk, it was fairly open and spacious. I spent about 30 minutes chopping down dead branches from the interior, and clearing out debris, both of which I used to camouflage myself. I was about 20 feet from a busy downtown road. This video reminded me if that experience. I had a little concealed fire in a coffee can, a tarp to keep the drizzling rain, falling leaves and bird poo off me... lol. There was a train track behind me, and must have been a yard nearby. Each morning the same guy would walk the track, and we'd talk for a few minutes. Share stories about life on the road. It was a great time. Good memory. Thanks for reminding me. Love your channel. You'd have made a good drifter.

It will make a big difference I just figured out that i can cut beef jerky up smaller and soften it in boiling water, then add rice and spices and you get like a fried rice that's really tastey. Esp if you add curry powder and green onion but really, just terryaki or soy sauce is fine

Hinton's my town! Also watched when you camped up in the bush behind the Super 8 and had Gus's pizza. Great video and awesome that you donated to help our neighbor's in BC.

This is the first episode of Camping With Steve that I ever saw, and still my favorite. When I lived outside, there was a similar sign in my town that I often thought of camping by, but didn't. So it's awesome to get to see you actually do it

Love the multi use Bic lighter, nonchalantly used to pop the top of a Step 2. Steve definitely has it figured out. I can't put my finger on it, but there is something compelling about watching a grown man stealth camp in some of the most unlikely places....... Putting myself in Steve's place, I feel the adrenaline of the moment. His easy demeanor and endless knowledge of his subject make for some of the best entertainment on You Tube. Thanks, Steve.

I’m a new subscriber. I subscribed on Sunday actually, it has been one of the roughest weeks of my life while also the most fulfilling. Your videos really helped take my mind off of things & “hunker down” as best I can. I found it ironic how in your latest video that you also mention you’ve been going through it as well, I’m happy to see we’re both doing just fine.

My one suggestion to all stealth campers is red flashlights, they don't put out as much light but they don't affect your eyes ability to adjust to the darkness. Plus red is harder to spot from the outside. I do realize red would be harder to film with.

When the chips are down there's nothing like a good ol' vicarious stealth camp behind a billboard to set things right. Thanks again, Steve. You're the best.

When I was a kid, I always wanted to "hide out" behind one of these types of billboards. That was before I ever knew "stealth camping" was a thing. I am so glad you fulfilled one of my childhood dreams.

Watched years of your life. You were and are tough, sane, and right to think the world is struggling to keep its humanity. You are a light.
