Wife here: Until I hear quiet mumbling coming from somewhere in the house as he talks to you all. I know the look he'd give me if I caught him and it would be a lot like catching a raccoon in the act of stealing your trash, haha. Thanks for the chuckle and thanks so much for supporting Steve!

I grew up on PBS and Bob Ross was more mesmerizing and soothing than Mr. Rogers. FULL respect to Mr. Rogers, no doubt. I just wanted to ride that trolly to make believe land and run a muck. Bob Ross just lulled me to a placated state.

I love that Steve worries about being obvious based on the gear that he is carrying, never mind the fact that everyone that sees him is like "oh hey that's Steve, I bet he's going camping" lol

Hey Steve, in another of your videos you mentioned that the negative comments or the troll ones really start to get you down. I just wanted to Thankyou for your uploads. When a guy has been having bad depression for a several months now your videos have really been appreciated. I also like when your wife is in the videos as well. She doesn’t say much but a guy can tell she really adds to the atmosphere and the dynamic between you two is very enjoyable. Anyway, I know the web can have a lot of rude people but I think you’re doing a great job and there are a lot of folks who really appreciate your content.

So true! Steve's one of those rare people who does read the comments and responds so it is sad that people are making negative comments. But I see them as people who are jealous or resent Steve for living his life and sharing it. Hopefully all the positive comments made by everyone offset any negative ones in Steve's heart. It's amazing how excited I get when there is a new video. I like the videos with beautiful wife and Crazy Neighbour (thankfully he doesn't mix them up to crazy wife/beautiful neighbour)! I like how he is not sponsored since I've noticed a lot of youtubers are slipping in commercials for products and starting to structure videos around product placement. I still think Canadian Tire should contribute to the beer donation fund since not sure everyone noticed but Atmosphere (where Steve bought his new gear) is owned by Canadian Tire (same as Marks work warehouse - where all good Canadians get their fancy outdoor clothes). So Steve is also a good Canadian by buying and promoting a Canadian Brand plus at the same time sending a zinger to people who litter and drink Coors!

"This video is kind of boring,......"(description) No mate, this video is exactly why i watch your vids. It's perfect. Like chilling with a good buddy in the woods. I don't need more "action". Thanks for another great one and stay safe in those crazy times.

Oh yeah, and working on our property last weekend, I said to my best friend "What's the first rule when using a chain saw?" Without a beat, my friend said "Don't do what Steve does!" For reasons of safety, it was a minute or two before we could use said chain saw. :)

As an alpine backpacker I can't believe some of the sleeping bags I've seen Steve be comfortable in sleeping in cold Canadian weather. I'd freeze like crazy with a few of the bags he had before. I'm a pretty cold sleeper. I wish I was as resistant to the cold as he seems to be.

Sir I can tell you that you inspired me to get back to camping. I used to do it as a teen, then I went to the big city and never done it anymore. It's actually both incredibly funny and sad. The reality is, that in most countries you just cannot get far enough away that you wont run in other people. Sometimes im really jealous back when you could just get out there and be alone without any humans without 100 miles. I mean you could go to the desert or something, but thats a bit extreme :P

And then if you try and go off road, well you run into private property, fences, private fields. It just makes me sad :(

Same experience back in 2006 trying to boondock and carcamp in Washington State. Thought I was far off the beaten path and saw another guy living out of his truck

24:57 TIP... To keep water from freezing turn it so the opening is facing down as water freezes from the top to the bottom. Great video! 👍

I tromped around those coulees as a lad, no one mentioned rattlesnakes. Now, I see a KZreadr based in Lethbridge does snake removal videos from the homes built along the tops of the coulees. Times change. Lethy is a fabulous small town city for those who don't know. However, what is not apparent in the video, is the virtually incessant westerly wind. Southern Alberta has lots of wind turbines generating power. Mosquitos are not a problem.

I was literally doing my homework, but you can't get a notification that Steve's uploaded a new video and ignore it!!

That river valley is beautiful in the Summer. And less windy during that time. Super popular though so it would be much harder. If you ever come back down, try Popson or Pavan. There is no private property where you are other than the University of Lethbridge and farther down on the other side of the river, the Police training grounds and a golf course.

Lol still have a couple of those sleeping bags the liner is flannel with a geese pattern, pretty sure mine are down filled tho. Remember camping out in our huge backyard in late November, real toasty in PNW weather. Good times

Came across steve channel on KZread about a week ago. I have none stop watched his episode every day. It's got alot of excellent information and very entertaining. Just a suggestion, but you might have already done it are someone has mentioned it. If you get a bivi bag. Put your sleeping bag inside. One it waterproofs your sleeping bag. Also give you that extra warmth. It's what we do in the military. Keep up the good work on the video. Watching from England.

Steve... on a clear night you could be 7°F (4°C) warmer just by using a simple tarp: you radiate heat into the clear night sky and that drops surface temperatures. Any opaque tarp will do. The idea is to not let any part of the night sky "see" you. 👍🏼

This is the only channel that I re-watch episodes. Keep it up Steve

Can't force these things you know! I'm sure we'll see some more of that in a future video when the mood strikes. Can't always be "on" when on camera. I do enjoy his wisdom though.

Steve it cracked me up how u just kept walking with the flap of your shoe, and simply said “oh…time for new shoes or shoe glue or something” lol I had to watch that part like 3 times lol 😂 I just was cracking up. Thank ya Steve ✌🏻

I used to hike around that area a lot, years ago,. I even walked across that high level train bridge. Happy to see you camping there, brings back good memories.

I really love how you leave things in like having a bit of trouble with the zipper instead of trying to make yourself seem 'perfect'! We all struggle like that from time to time and it's refreshing to see! ☺

Hi Steve! My husband and I love your videos! We also regularly enjoy Annie's macaroni & cheese ;) For a heartier meal than just the box, try adding a drained can of tuna and half a can of (drained) peas. Still an easy camping meal but with added protien/nutrients and improved texture variation. Keep up the great work!

Hey Steve. I live in Lethbridge. Good to see my city featured. I see you were in Indian Battle Park. We hike there dozens of times a year since it is right in the city. You asked for spots to camp. If you decide to head west towards the Crowsnest pass (still in Alberta) I know of several beautiful spots. You could try like like Lundbreck Falls, Starcreek falls, Turtle Mountain (the mountain that caused Frank's Slide), around Pincher creek, on the old man dam reservoir.

I've been watching the channel for some time now and I never comment. But I have to say I absolutely love the content you put out, so thank you for what you do.

Hey Steve! In regards to simmering on the little camp stoves. A lot of folks, myself included, have a nice and light trick for that. Make yourself a little reflectix and duct tape coozie and lid for the pot. Pull the pot off the heat, drop it into the coozie, and it can sit there surprisingly warm for a while. This saves fuel and keeps food hot longer, especially in cold weather. You might also find that a small sheet of aluminum or similar that can fit in the pot maybe be useful as a wind screen since the burner is relatively unprotected. Only adds an oz or two but makes a big difference when you're hungry!

Variation of the old "hay box" trick. Any insulation should do just fine, although sleeping bag or jacket would be a bad choice due to risk of spillage or steam condensation in wrong places

I definitely agree with this comment! I drink Mtn Dew in a can very offer and ALWAYS have a coozie for my can. Ppl that don't use them have no idea how much a little insulation helps to keep cold cold and hot hot. Making a custom coozie hadn't occurred to me but after reading this I would absolutely suggest you experiment a little and see what you can come with. Im absolutely sure the difference it would make is almost a game changer.

"You shouldn't blow directly into it because of condensation." Me, who has been blowing into the same "Therm a rest" for 20 years: "Oh."

You can also open them up after you get home, hang them, and let them dry out.

I can definitely relate to the heights phobia. My wife and I took a trip out to western Montana, Idaho and Washington. Being around the mountains is so beautiful but also raises my stress levels knowing you have to go through them. I call them pucker passes.

you are such wholesome watching. i'm unlikely to do any of this myself let's not lie but here for the wonderfully kind and strategically-minded Canadian with the beautiful wife

You can take a couple hand warmers that hunters use and put them in your sleeping bag before you go to sleep. They will warm up your bag and help keep you warmer at night. Something I used to tell the boys in my scout troop when we did cold weather camping. Hope it helps you. Keep up the good work my friend.

I live a half hour away from Lethbridge in a small town called Taber and I have hiked those coulees more times then I can count, glad to see you had a good time and hope you two have a good and safe camping trip.

Thats so interesting. When I first stumbled across your videos, I loved that you said Hunker down because that phrase always makes me feel cozy. I was thrilled to find you say it every video. Love it, Steve!

your videos have a disengaging, ambient feel to them during the times you arent talking. not boring, and a much needed alternative to some close-up, uncomfortable, inside computer room. i miss the road, i still remember leaving home in 2014 just told my dad i was tired and left. i made it 1200 miles on my bicycle before ice formed on my tent floor then i went back to cleveland. you would have a lot more fun doing this in usa, more people around who always ask if they can help, better weather
