Stations of Baby | Why Dilation Doesn't Matter | Have a Fast Labor | How to Dilate Quicker | Pt. 1

Do you know your baby’s station?!
I have been hearing more and more that mamas are wanting to know how dilated they are during or even before labor. If this is your choice and it truly gives you peace of mind, go for it. However, I would encourage you to learn a little more about dilation and think about if that’s what you really need to know (or if there are alternatives to having fingers up your v*g throughout labor).
If you haven’t heard of station before, let me blow your mind!
Dilation is what we always hear about when it comes to labor progressing but I would opt to say that knowing your baby’s station (or even being able to observe it without checks) is a much better piece of information for you.
What is a baby’s station?
Your baby’s station is how high or low your baby sits in the pelvis. It helps us know how your baby is descending and rotating through your pelvis during labor. And guess what? You don’t actually need vaginal exams to know this. Not only that, it can sometimes give us an idea of how dilated we are but not always and vice versa.
Oh and btw, you do NOT need to know how dilated you are before you go into labor - it’s really not important. Your baby will come and descend when they are ready.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of this series where I will discuss how to move based on baby's station.

    I can tell my body was at a positive 2 with my first pregnancy bc my body started pushing on its own. My provider literally told me to hold off on pushing bc I needed to get to 10cm and more effaced (I was at about 8cm). Unfortunately, I wasn’t equipped with different positions to do in order to help me open up more. They just had me laying on my side. Still delivered pretty quickly but I’m looking forward to part 2 of this video

    Are there any movements that should be done for when the baby is in your mid- pelvis? Or are movements to open the inlet/outlet sufficient?

    Hey loved your video! I had a question im currently 31 weeks and my baby is at a +1 station but im not dilated yet. I am at risk for preterm labor. But i was wondering with my baby at +1 even tho im not dilated does that mean baby is coming soon?

    I am little confused So if you are 7 cm and station of the baby is a negative positive 2 Can you still push it out without tearing? OR As the station of the baby is changing you will dilate more??

  • @awerkingmama

    @awerkingmama

    2 жыл бұрын

    Usually you will dilate as baby moves to a positive station. Your body will usually begin pushing when it’s time but if baby is at a negative station, it’s not time to push.

    @@awerkingmamathanks. I guess I focused too much on when you said dilation doesn’t matter but what I’m coming to realize is if you don’t dilate, it can be very scary and lead to a possible induction and interventions. I’ve held off as long as possible and gotten a second opinion, it’s not medically safe for me to wait for several reasons. I wish I could so badly. This sucks. Trying to remain positive and do all the things you and my doulas are presenting but this is all too much and nothing seems to be bringing on contractions. I declined any further cervix exams since they’re discouraging and my induction date is approaching. Thanks for your help.
