Stationeers Let's play Mars 31 Waste not, want not.

Why do I collect CO2, throw it away so that I can collect it again? Well, it seemed smart at the time. But not any more. Now I remove the system that is working and replace it with something questionable.

Purge valve set to a pressure at where CO2 will stay liquid, but polutant wont. then just have an analyzer check when there is no polutant, and shunt the CO2 to a clean pipe network. Just as you have it with your N2/O2 system, but instead of releasing it in to the base, you have a storage pipe/tank network. you asl also doing something similar with your water supply, where you have a purge valve to purge to polutant back out of the liquified water. Letting the polutant boil of, has the added benefit that your cooling the CO2 further. Another related point about keeping your N2/O2 supply cool. Instead of just dumping liquids overboard, use a phase change device to let the liquid expand to gas, and use ht N2/O2 supply as a stable temperature source. Because right now, when you are condensing the polutant and CO2, it's dumping a heap of heat in to your N2/O2 supply before you are ejecting it. OR, you could use the CO2/polutant that you are dumping overboard to harvest your CO2 from, and then just use the polutant in a heat exchanger to cool both your CO2 supply and O2/N2 supplies before dumping the polutant overboard.

Could also just IC the purge valve set to 1800 until the liquid pollutant is boiled off, then set to 0 to purge all the gas, CO2 and pollutant. Once the pollutant gas is gone, set the purge to 1800 again. If you want to make the CO2 usable at all times, use a liquid volume pump to dump the CO2 into the tank when it's just pure CO2 gas+liquid. To expand it at this point you just need to add more condensation valves and volume into the scrubber section.

I have used the excess liquid CO2 to cool the beathing gas in the next episode. There is only a tiny amount of pollutant remaining in the liquid so I dont know if it worth the effort to get rid of it. If it builds up in the base I will have to come back and fix it.

For my setup I'm working on, I increase the Co2 temperature above -20 to return it to a gaseous state. I then make sure the Co2/X mix is above 3Mpa or so pressure so the X is in liquid form and use a liquid drain or expansion valve to get rid of the X. It looks like you're trying to do basically the opposite. Keep the Co2 below its condensation temperature, and keep the pressure low enough that the X doesn't condense. The problem I see is that there will always be at least some gaseous Co2 in the pipes and tank, thus wasting part of the Co2 you've collected when you try to purge the gas in the pipe to remove the X (pollutants).

True, but the atmosphere is 95% CO2 and my plants only need 2%, so I am not worried about wasting it.

I have found that using a Portable Tank connector (has gas AND liquid connection!) and a smart portable tank could possibly help with phase change shenanigans. I have only watched until 17:43 - and have not yet found an elegant way to phase change filter all the gases in the Mars atmosphere without atmospherics units. But I would love to figure something out. Since you have to do a whole lot of temperature and pressure controlling, I am guessing that it will be way more energy demanding than just doing the usual atmospherics filtering....

that's how we do it in real life. boiling (and condensation), centrifugal separation, various chemical processes and gravity separation are the dominant ones. i'm not sure that magic filters that can separate any and all compounds and elements even exist the way they do in the game. the only real stationeers filter i can think of is reverse osmosis for water. also the suit CO2 filters would be replaced with a rebreather in real life, or a chemical scrubber. the rebreather would allow recapturing the gas, the scrubber wouldn't.

@@cowsareevil7514 I see, I was wondering why you didn't use a purge valve to purge the gas from the liquid line run it through a filter to remove the Pollutant, then use a condensation valve to dump the CO2 gas back into the liquid line.

  • @buhamutlotde7869

Almost seems like you over-complicated the CO2 system while trying to remove the pollutant, since the pollutant liquifies at a higher temperature than CO2. Wouldn't it make sense to collect cool atmosphere > vent liquid pollutant > Cool the resulting (Pollutant-Free) gas > Separate liquid CO2 from O2 + N?
