    Can't wait for this to be done. Really wish you would experiment with liquid cooling with these builds. You could capture the atmosphere, condensate the pollutant+CO2, store and use that as cooling for the hot side. Send the N2+O2 to be separated by phase change by the H2, then redirect the very cold N2 gas back to H2 side and/or hot side for another huge dose of cooling. The liquid inlet is great for liquid cooling. It allows gasses to pass either direction while normalizing gas pressure with the environment, but only allows liquid to passively into the line. You can dump liquid coolant into the liquid pipes and it'll boil off all the coolant provided to the heat exchanger, releasing all the gasses, but not the liquid. As the liquid phase changes into gas, it dumps extra heat into gas, and cools the liquid. Giving a little extra cooling from the same coolant. The best part is the cooling is very controllable with a liquid volume pump, so no worry about the 80C temperature difference on Mars during the day cycle.

    The night temp is less than the liquid CO2 so too good for the cryogenics but I could use it to cool the base. Experiments needed.

    I believe the counterflow heat exchangers are like the one way valves. They flow based on the volumes of the attached pipe systems. So just like needing extra pipe volume to speed up airlocks, adding more pipe volume between the two heat exchangers should lower the pressure at the coldhead. A pump between them should help too or a combination of pumps and excess volume.

    Having an extra section of pipe between the pump and the counter flow seems to change the dynamics in some cases. Even simple small direct heat exchangers that are digital valve controlled seem to work better when you put 2 pipes between it and the valve.

    not to be a backseat gamer, but that that turbo pump you install at 53:54 makes no difference cause the input pipe is still only 10 liters. :)

    Ah that's a good way of thinking about it. Still hard to not think about flow rates through the pipes but it's more "macro quantum"

    It's getting interesting ! I sort of had to think of Akira.. like when Tetsuo pulls the Cryo-chamber from underground and these giant pipes of coolant wave around in the air... I think there should be an orbital laser in Stationeers.. just in case.

    Mick, you may need to add pipe volume between the volume pump and the heat exchangers, as i think it will be breaking the pipe networks up, slowing the actual pump speed.

    I'm not convinced the logic sorters are without bugs, I managed to get one filtering out by item hash and it was popping out the left chute and other stuff out the right chute, then I went off to fix something, five minutes later my logic sorter had stopped filtering the thing it was happily filtering before and refused to work again after that. Looking forward to see what you make of it this video :D

    I've had similar problems with the sorter using just MIPS. Was hoping it was just a cycle timing mismatch, but think it's bugged. Might be an in-between state of loading the hash. Just a guess

    15:17, sorry to break it to you, but the cooler is actually heating the cold side right now as the "cold" side is hotter than the "hot" side, making the machine very inefficient if the temperature difference is inverted at any of the cooling stages... I am having the same problem on Vulcan and still thinking about how to solve this problem to keep it from inverting, but I have not found a useful solution yet.

  • @inneedofmedication

    @inneedofmedication

    That's because of the initial startup balancing. Until it equalizes, when you start the system up for the first time, that will happen every time. If you're having that issue while the system is already running, you may be trying to cool too much for the system.

    @@inneedofmedication Yeah, I was just nitpicking a bit, because Mick said that it was cooling at 6 kJ/s which was not the case at that moment. I have indeed overwhelmed my cooling system on Vulcan because I forgot to switch off my CO2 filtering from the atmo during the day. I just purged the whole cooler then to start it up again

    Mick, one problem I think you might have is yourVol liq tank is empty. Ie whenever I start to mass store liq NOS i have to pre pressurize it with a pressurant valve to 1.1 MPa ish. If I don’t then when the liq NOS enters the empty liq network it inta evorates and causes a run away cooling effect going below freezing temp.

  • @cowsareevil7514

    @cowsareevil7514

    Correct. You should pre pressurise with has near freezing temp. So cool the gas before prepressurising.
