Soooo... I’m pretty sure you will never see this, but here are my recommendations. I would use a fertilizer if you want the plants to grow faster and be healthier. I couldn’t see if you had one already, but I recommend Seachem Flourish or Seachem Flourish Excel. I use them, and they work well. If things really aren’t working out and you want to change the substrate, what I recommend is Seachem. I would use a gravel vacuum, you want to keep anything off the leaves of your plants. Whenever you do water changes check underneath them for mold. Certain kinds of plants are easier than others. Some, like Hornwort or Duckweed, are sometimes considered weeds because they grow so fast and so well. They’re really easy to take care of. CO2 is OK, I have never used it but some plants do need it. I would just recommend going without it. If you’re willing to go through that whole thing and check everything and make sure everything will be OK then you can get some pretty cool plants, but you could do without it. I have a similar problem to you, I’m not very good at keeping plants alive. But I have never had any issues with plants inside an aquarium, they are much easier to take care of. If you do see this, and you want some plant recommendations I am perfectly happy to give you some. I would also recommend the online forum Fishlore, it’s very helpful and the people they are very nice and well educated. They can help you with anything you might need, and the site is very easy to use. Please, if you come across this comment like it so it will go towards the top and she will see it.

Co2 is beneficial for every plant although some plants can go with out it but it’s important to have it for the plants health plus your plants will grow faster and bushier if you use co2 or liquid carbon fertiliser

mal_will she wasn’t handling him roughly, he was moving (because snakes are curious animals) and she was trying to make sure he didn’t fall. Snakes can get agitated and bite when they want to go somewhere else but can’t, so it’s not that she was being rough with him it was the fact he got slightly agitated.

2.5 is bare minimum and there is a nice little bow one at petsores that has a sleeve down the center for separation but just take it out and it's perfect. Decently priced too. Has a filter (which you can modify to make the flow not sore harsh). All you need then is fish, food, conditioner, heater and decorations. You don't have to use rocks and decorations at the pet store. Dollar store has cute ceramic stuff and small clay pots are perfect for hiding. You can get rocks from outside just be sure to boil them first to kill any bad parasites. As for substrate you can use play sand which is crazy cheep. Just be sure to wash it good because it's dusty. It looks real pretty and natural in aquariums Many people don't know this either but PetSmart does also compare prices to chewy. At least they were supposed to when I worked there.

First Lieutenant she overcame an addiction and is 6 months sober... so show some compassion. yeah, her addiction caused her to possibly “neglect” herself, her mental health, and may have affected her animals as well... but she got help. and she IS doing amazing now. stop dragging people for their past and congratulate them on their present and future. dwelling on the past will only make people miserable. again... what you say about others says more about you...

I would just stop replying to the twitter accusations all together. There’s always trolls or angry people looking for an excuse to start something. Unless you see a ton of videos popping up on KZread covering the drama, then most likely most people don’t believe it. I only say this because I can tell how stressed you are over it. Also here’s some stuff I’ve learned about plant tanks: Make sure you know what type of plant you have, some are water column feeders and some are root feeders. It’s great to have a good variety to keep the water parameters happy. For root feeders I always put a root tab in the soil near them, it’s a great nutrient source and will help them grow faster. Your tank is actually pretty sparsely planted for that type of light, so you may want to limit the light time if you see an algae bloom or switch lights til you’re heavily planted. Don’t try carpeting as a beginner planter. Don’t. It will fail and you will be sad. Don’t do CO2 until you’ve got more experience planting/have a heavily planted tank. CO2 is usually for carpeting plants or when you want really fast growth since a tank can take almost six months to fill out when you first plant it. When aquascaping, use the photography rule of thirds, you want your centerpiece towards the back and side of the tank. Remember to keep tall plants in the back and small ones in the front, it sounds obvious but I mess this up all the time and then wonder why my tank feels messy. If you do decide to give your betta tank mates be sure to add them before adding the betta. If not he’ll have already established the territory as his/her own. Bettas all have different temperaments so if you want a micro community you may have to try different bettas before you get a relaxed personality one. But in the end you’ll prolly get crap about having him/her in a community since a lot of people don’t know it’s possible. You’re gonna get a lot of criticizing comments, remember that it’s not YOU. The aquarium/betta community is super passionate about care and rarely agree on what is best. As long as you do your research and it works for your tank, then you’re not doing anything wrong. Omg this was so long you prolly didn’t read it, don’t blame you. You prolly knew all of this but Incase there was something knew I hope it helped (:

I highly suggest watching the KZread channel simply betta. The ladies name is Taylor and she is amazing! She is a betta breeder and does a ton of aqua scaping. She also almost always answer comments especially if you ask questions and she is super helpful!

I‘m a planted tank enthusiast. I’ve had mine for years and my plants always grew like crazy. I always used a little bit of plant soil and then “Flourite” or just Flourite. I would suggest get a bigger light that also has a blue light. That’s the best light for plants. At night I just turn off the main lights but leave the blue one on. You can barely see it but the plants like it. :) and keep it away from natural light or you’ll get algae growing everywhere and your plants will die :( that’s really all I did. No CO2 or anything fancy like that :)

The minimum for a betta should really be 5g. If you're on a budge, wait. Invest in a good heater and read about the nitrogen cycle. It's much easier to maintain a happy fish and a healthy cycle in a 5g.

Personally I disagree. It depends on the fish. Two of my bettas love 3.5-5 gallon tanks, and my other one, Berry, lives in a one gallon. I tried him in a 5 gal, 3.5 gallon, tested the water, the temperature, how much decor, etc. Berry could not live in a big tank and a small tank worked for him. He is also a special fish and everything stressed him out (he’s gotten a lot better though). I believe the absolute minimum would be 2.5 gallons but every fish is different and needs different requirements.

I'm a veterinary student, and you probably know more than most of my teachers about your exotic pets... It's obvious how much effort you put on looking up how you can improve their lives... I am learning a lot with you... Thank you... The amount you know about a species its connected directly with the time you put looking up about it... And there are not a lot of professionals that keep updating their knowledge like the pets owners... You are an inspiration, I wish to have future clients that put so much effort and have so much respect for their pets...

I’m not completely sure if it is different when you have live plants with your betta fishy but I have found that sponge filters are THE BEST for them because you can easily adjust the flow and make it higher/lower depending on your fishies liking!!

You should use some floating plants because betta fish are very strong jumpers and also use root tabs to provide extra nutrients for your plants

I just started watching your videos when this pandemic started (bc my interest in reptile rlly just started) and ive watched 2017-2019 videos in no particular order and saw how inclusive you are of your viewers. Im not scared of dead mice but its really nice you put those warnings and you reallyyyyy put emphasis on things that are important and dangerous for your animal because you dont speak monotonously which i really like (cause most youtubers are boring to watch lol). At first I really didnt care about your personal life bc im from the philippines and I wont really hear anything about you in our country cause reptile keeping isnt as popular here as it is in other countries and just appreciate your content about your pets and i wanted to learn about the different animals + you really seem to be a true person on and off cam. When I finally told myself i should atleast learn about how you started (BC I WAS REALLY INSPIRED) i found videos like this where you say that other people bash you for what you say or do which would have been not so big if you werent a youtuber star. and i totally agree its just really hard to move freely when youre famous. and then I saw your 1 hr vid about your ex boyfriend and the heroin vid (which was really brave to do and i am so inspired with your strength to share it im proud to idolize you) i just realized i was attached with you and ghost and cheese and kronos and bindi and literally just everyone. i was concerned about you ): that video was uploaded 7 months ago? im not really sure lol i was really starting to think what happened to you i looked you up in twitter and instagram and was relieved that you are doing ok. maybe not well, but atleast your trying. i would love this message to reach you somehow, i dont even know if you'll be reading this lol. but i hope you dont stop believing in yourself. dont stop being you just because people want to tear you down. every pet owner is really just learning by the day even if you research for months, learning really just comes with experience when it comes to animals. some experts even make mistakes and its okay as long as you fix it up like how you did when you first got kronos and then finally having him in that 363 gallon tank. im currently studying to be a vet and just really invested in keeping reptiles (i only have a tortoise atm bc my mom is a scaredy cat hahahha ) and you inspired me to do so. i really hope you are doing well, if you ever decide that youtube isnt for you and you just wanna be away from all the fame, i wanted to let you know many of your supporters will have your back and understand. may you always be happy taylor nicole dean ! 🥺💗

i agree..she shouldnt have to defend herself but tbh i was someone that didnt like her once..and i still watched her vids cuz i liked that gorgeous fish cheese..so ive seen alot of the s**t ppl say and how she is,and honestly now i think ive come to respect her more.i do see how ppl twist her words and harrass her.she has grown and is trying hard i wish ppl would stop doing that to her and i hope she continues to get better.

I agree! The people saying and doing these awful things are miserable scum and they would never have the balls to attack her like this in person. Fuck them. She takes great care of her animals. Some people are just so miserable and pathetic in their personal lives that they feel better about themselves when they can attack a stranger through the internet. They are trash human beings.

Fluval Stratum is basically plant soil, the more you wash it, the more it’ll break down, it’s best to not wash it at all

It doesn't make her look like a racoon, but it doesn't look good either. I like the way she did her makeup in her sponsor clip. And she really needs to visit a salon to get a deep condition as her hair looks dead. Could be because of her illness, but I think she would really benefit from a good spa day.

I’m sure you hate getting these suggestions, but some of my favorite videos were watching you speed clean the animal enclosures and feeding them. It was so satisfying and relaxing. When I first found Taylor's channel I was floored by the amount of care she gives to her animals, the time, the money, the effort behind it and the way she researches everything five times over. I'm actually confused how people can take that so horribly out of context and twist it. Oh and them saying you've relapsed and aren't clean anymore is the lowest of blows and absolutely atrocious, just because you're on KZread doesn't give them the right to judge you in this way. Make a full video, pull out the receipts on them and link it whenever they raise their ugly voices again but don't let it get you down, please. Also idk what you mean I love the makeup look, especially the tiny freckles, shows that you're taking care and keeping good habits up as much as you can while you're working on figuring yourself out!

A couple years ago I got a beta for Christmas. I had already had a beta before and I absolutely loved him, but he passed from old age. For some odd reason we used a new fish bowl that was "meant for betas" instead of the 5 gallon we already had. We got a blue beta, I named him king (he sadly passed from bloating... Still sad bout dat). Every day I started at him, and he would usually just stay in the same spot. I moved him almost as soon as one of the fake plants was much to sharp and ripped part of his tail off. I remember when we put him in a little cup that we got him in and put him in the 5 gallon so he could be acclimated to the water he was really excited and tried to break out of the cup XD. We later got a purple soft and very tall fake plant, and let me tell you, he LOVED that thing. I really love betas, and I miss mine

Yes but used tank water contains ammonia which the good bacteria then feed on so by putting the water from an already cycled tank in your jump starting your cycle and basically go straight to the 3rd stage
