Amazing as always. I get asked for tips often when I paint something from the SW universe, I always tell them the same thing, LAYERS. That's what makes it real. 75 layers of 60 different shades of the brown.. lol Also the idea of painting the back of the acrylic of that death star shine is brilliant. These book nooks have become quite popular.

I have those two playsets, still sealed. If I remember correctly the two sets came in a case together. I found two cases on a toy pallet at a Wal*Mart years ago. I grabbed one set for me, the other for a friend. I never saw these in the stores after that, only at dealers tables at various conventions over the years. Glad I got them when I saw them.

I'd love to see a tutorial on setting up the illustrator workspace and how you make sure you have the right dimensions before sending to the laser cutter. I do most of my design work in lightburn but I do have experience with illustrator but never for precision design.

The Smugglers Room I shared some pics of my, finally finished, droid socket with you in Facebook Messenger. Not sure if that’s the best place, or if you check that account.
This came out so good! The added trash. The weathering. The design. The lighting. It's all great! And you know, a little lasered 3D plaque with the, er, corrected quote, done up with some Rub n Buff and screwed on top to cover up that unmentionable bit might look really cool! No one needs to know you didn't plan it that way from the start to make it stand out! Actually, you could maybe do that with a some of the other text on top too to make it all look neat and cohesive?

Brian, let me try to inspire you a little bit further... next book nook project... instead of an infinity library, take that same concept and do an infinity Death Star trench with red 5 on approach. Would be looking down the back side of red 5 down the length of the trench allowing you to light up the engines and R2... could mount the nose of the x-wing to the back of the two way mirror making it appear to free float in space and using peppers ghost you can even add laser bolts and small impact explosions over the face of the trench... There you go, inspiration sent and gauntlet has been dropped... keep doing what you do you amazingly talented geek!
Looks great. Working on some for my favorite movies as well. Thanks for posting.

Amazing! I saw Jen Schachters book nook on Tested and immediately thought 'trash compactor', with the books crushing in from both sides, but this is far beyond what I had in my mind. I think the hard, precise lines of the empire needed the laser cutter. Maybe the Rancor pit or cantina could be done quite convincingly with more handmade methods? You're really not helping me reduce the size of my to-do list. Great work smugglers.
@TheSmugglersRoom

LOL, thank you Luke, and sorry for the added project list ;)
Miss-quote or not.... Its a badass build brah!
I think you should give the toy/model part itself a wash and drybrushing. Bring out those details and give it depth. Your work has all this lovely texture and depth and the model just looks flat in comparison with its flat skin tones. Chewys fur in particular would look amazing with that extra step. Though I know that is more miniature painting territory.

It's like in the movies where the item on display seems normal but the experts know that it isn't correct. Sort of a true Star Wars fan test. Brilliant work as always mate! How did you work out how scale everything to the figures.I’ve got 1/6th Luke and Obi Wan and I was thinking about making a diorama of Obi Wan’s dwelling but not sure how to scale things. Anyway, look forward to more.
@TheSmugglersRoom
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Sam! I measured the figures and then used the web to figure out the actual size. (looked up Peter Mayhew's hight for Chewie) and then compared that to an actual door and wall hieght. Those two factors allowed me to get a good estimate of scale. It's maybe not 100% on the money, but it looks pretty close.

Wow! Great job, as usual Brian! Could you use some miscellaneous old circuit boards for your parts bin, I'm thinking possibly for greebles or something? Also, no reason the same templates you used with the laser cutter couldn't be used with hand and/or power tools, just might be a bit more tedious.
