Stand By Me - Mini Sousaphone Edition!!!

After a few months of messing around I finally felt ready to record something on my new to me Jupiter mini sousaphone Eb Alto!
It’s a fun little horn, but it does have some unusual tuning issues, namely printed D and Eb 5. Had to use alternate finger combinations there.
Playing my Blackburn-Pickett HA3 mouthpiece on this recording.

This makes me want to see what it would be like if someone wrapped a trumpet like a sousaphone. A piccolo sousaphone, perhaps.

From what I understand there were 50 of these made. I see people selling them on eBay once every few years. I looked for years before we came across this one.

I've never seen one of these with the leadpipe attached for whatever reason. I just figured the bell would go on your left somehow. Obviously not, lol.

Yeah, with it being in front of you body the crossover of the lead pipe would be weird if the bell was to the left.
I watched this because it made me think of stand by me - doraemon. It probably was though.

That’s correct. It’s Eb alto between the trumpet and trombone.

There were 50 made by Jupiter as a promotional item. One comes up every few years on eBay. I got lucky and a friend who deals in vintage gear got this one for me from Germany. It’s near mint.

They were from Jupiter. They made 50 of them. I got mine from from a German seller about three years ago. They come up on eBay once in a while.

@@joselmc46 it is model SSH-394 referred to as a “mini sousaphone in Eb” it plays the same range as an Eb alto horn.

Nope 🙂 it is in Eb Alto. Same pitch as British tenor horns or older US mellophones
