What is the dimension of your fridge/cubic feet? I have the same brew bucket and I am looking at buying a fridge for the temperature control. Thanks!

What a great review and looks great, glad you let us look inside the brew fridge, expect that is a must with these because the temp would go up and down quicker than a plastic bucket. Nice

Maybe the first sample was cloudy because there might have been "gunge" in the pipe first time you poured a sample.....Looks really good.....top review ;)

Sadly not.But the hardest part if that is wiring the temp controller check out bremaster bens channel as hes has recently done hes own one.Once you have that all you need is a old working fridge and your set.

Great review! The sulfur smell isn't that uncommon, sometimes when the yeast has aggressive spikes in sugar consumption the chemical processes can produce sulfur-based chemicals. The easy way to rid of it is to buy yourself a new 1" chunk of copper pipe about a foot long, drill a hole thru the sides of one end, thread a piece of thread thru the holes and tie it off. Then scrub it, sanitize it, and drop it into your fermenter overnight. Odor is gone! The sulfur smell is in the form of dimethyl sulfides.and some hydrogen sulfate gasses. The copper reacts to it and produces a non-soluble CUS (copper monosulfide) that'll precipitate out and in a sense neutralize your sulfur smell. This is a common practice with ciders, meads, and wines. I've had Belgians and ciders do this. The first Belgian I brewed I dumped because I thought it was infected! Lesson learned! Disclaimer: I am not a chemist, but I played one on TV once! Another Disclaimer: Google was my source of the technical stuff when learning about that darn rotten egg smell!

How long was the boil on this brew? The sulphur smell is a strange one - i had it on the Wilko kit cerveza when i used the first lot of liquid yeasts - eggy peggy poo! But that was early doors not at the end of fermentation,( it had gone by then), so that rules out DMS i would think with it being a kit. Anyway good luck with the beer, and well done on these 2 vids, it looks a great piece of kit that will last a lifetime. Cheers

It was a 15 min boil us-05 yeast never exp it before with that yeast or a 15 min boil. But maybe as that wort was chilled fast.Im starting to think 30mins will be bare minium for a no chill.Ive dry hopped it alot its cleared and smells better. But have to say not very hoppy for additions i used.Review up once carbed at least it may have proved the negative effects of a short boil.

Nice review thanks. Looking at getting one of these when they are next in stock at malt Miller. Are you still using it. Only thing I would miss is being able to see the beer a bit through the bucket. Not the end of the world though.

Hi there yep its pretty much my go to fv now.If i have a beer with no dry hopping i even bottle straight from this into the bottles providing its had enough time to clear works a treat.

+beerloverTV nice. Did you figure out if it is compatible with their cooling kit? I figure some kind of glycol/ ice is required to be pumped round? Any good for your flat?

  • @beerloverTV

+Mike Dent The cooling kit requires a source of cold they show it with a picnic cooler and ice.I did think about a flash chiller in my flat sadly i wouldnt have the room.Ther are newer cooling and heating products coming soon from other suppliers.Much more compact but i suspect costly

Isn't the dip tube supposed to be in the down position during fermentation? So when you gave it a quarter turn to the right you move it to the up position...

  • @beerloverTV

Nope its said side ways to avoid trube them turn so its angle down. That way it takes out the maximum beer leaving the trub behind. They made a slighltly longer version since this one.

beerlover1983brew wouldn't it draw fluid in though the airlock. I know mine does but mine is just a ampi fermenter. Very nice fermenter though. I too am interested in the temperature controller will work. Cheers!

beerlover1983brew I think Gash is talking about the liquid in the airlock getting sucked back into the fermenter by the vacuum created by opening the tap without removing the air-lock or opening the lid.

Thanks for the demo of the fermenter. It looks like it would make a lovely companion to the Grainfather. The sulphury smell you are talking about sounds awfully like the description for DMS. Here is a link. Interestingly on the graph it talks about DMS being created post boil if the wort is left hot. This might be the case with no-chill? www.picobrewery.com/askarchive/dms.htm

beerlover1983brew I'm thinking I might do a 30 min boil next time just to drive off a bit more of the DMS, although like you say the Motueka was fine with the quick cool down of the wort. I'm wondering if it's just a combination of a short boil and slow cool down causing the problems. The no chill seems to be working fine for Ant, but he is probably doing a much longer boil. With my wort chiller I don't seem any real benefit in letting the wort cool naturally. Cheers
