Spotlighting Kate Martin | Iowa Women's Basketball | On The Court

Спорт

"People will never remember how many points you scored, but people will always remember how you made them feel."
Kate Martin has been a Hawkeye since the day she was born and is back with Iowa for her 6th year as a leader that keeps everyone together on-and-off the court.

After the Indianapolis Fever draft Caitlin Clark in the first round, it is my hope that they also draft Kate Martin further down the draft rounds. I like Kate and it is evident that both she and Caitlin are a duo that works ...

I'm a California kid who has been a fan of Stanford WBB since I was in grad school there in the 80's. I only started following Iowa when a friend told me about Caitlin in 2020. I've watched every game since. Caitlin is amazing and I love watching her but Kate has been my favorite Iowa player since probably the third COVID game I watched. She will be an amazing coach someday!

She's similar to Molly Davis in the Fact that she'll just Pop Up Out Of Seemingly Nowhere to Block a shot, Snag a Rebound, or put up a 3 just when it's needed to change the focus of the game & she'll run in, covering a team mate's back, when things start to get too "Physical". Both Kate and Molly aren't Afraid of anything, and would charge an invading Army with a soup ladle, smiling the entire time.....Molly would naturally Be Frowning, Her "Game Face" Firmly in place. Fact Is, I adore every one of the "Iowa Ladies Who Hoop". I'm old enough to have still been in High School when The Ladies only played half court, and have always been a fan of Lady Ballers doing what they do, but Caitlin and her Merry band Of Stone Cold Assassins has definitely added something new and Exciting to my enjoyment. I'm a 73 year old Semi Retired Cowboy, Way Down in the Southern Part of Georgia, who gets a Big Jolt of happiness and Enjoyment from watching Iowa's Lady Ballers do their stuff, and Kate is a Huge part of that enjoyment. She's Always thee and willing to do whatever it takes to give herself and her team Mates an extra Edge over the competition. She's Just Such A Very Competent and Talented Player, but it's never just about what's best for Kate, it's Always About What's Best For The other Iowa Players, and it's clear that she Works to make them better. Which makes them Very Dangerous, when they hit the court, and any opposing team, who looks at their Size, and other things that "May" be taken as a Weak Point in their Game, and underestimates the entire Team, Does So At Their peril. The Seniors will be gone for next season, but you can bet I'll be there watching every Iowa Game I can find available for viewing, and Pulling For The Ladies Of Iowa, every Time, with an eye out for Every Game I can access the beginning of her Professional Career, and how much she's Accepted by her new team members, and Vice Versa. I caught onto Michael Jordan's Meteoric Rise in the NBA, and shortly after MJ really began to Make His Mark on the NBA, and All Of Basketball. That ain't happening with Miss Caitlin. I caught onto her before she started Breaking Every Record in the book, or shortly After it began, so I get to "Ride This "Great One" Or "Greatest One" All The Way to the finish line, this time and began following he career and Amazing Talent and Technique, early enough to at least Claim "I knew about her way back when" Bragging Rights, as far as it goes, or as far as I Go, anyway Best Of Luck Iowa Ladies in this year's March madness & Right On Through to the day y'all get that "Chip", I know all of you really want and will do what it takes to pull it off, so to speak. I hear "Experts" reminding everybody that Monica and Warnock plus others are Not playing, and that loss will hurt Iowa's Chances, but I see a team that works so hard and Well together. Most of the time, Seamlessly, and that tells me y'all have "Put In The Work" to be a successful. Best Of Luck Ladies, and I'll be looking for y'all in The Winners Circle

Been following Iowa women's basketball since 2003 season and another similar player to kate was Jenny lillis. I see the same traits as a player that was a leader and team first player who just happened to be a all big ten level player. Looking back Jenny (who coached at Kansas State, drake and now Oklahoma) sacrificed a lot of scoring and production like Kate did to make the team better. But they could both sense a time when the team needed them and turn it on when needed. Any successful team needs a glue player like Jenny or this case kate. Seeing how vocal kate is I remember how vocal Jenny was with her teammates in timeouts and on the court. A leader that everyone listens to , respects and holds them accountable. Ikate won't acknowledge how much she has helped mature Clark and held her accountable. Coaches have noticed this and means more coming from their teammates. Been a pleasure having kate as a leader since she first shaped on campus from Illinois as a hawk. Can't wait to follow her coaching career.

@@dwightcurrie8316 eventually possibly yes but another former player I followed early on in coach bluders tenure was Jenny lillis. Another glue player that was all big ten but was a vocal leader on and off the court that sacrificed her own stats to make the team better or stepped up when the team needed her. Jenny after leaving here at Iowa coached at Kansas State, than a successful run at drake as head coach and now at Oklahoma. I would be curious to have her interviewed some day on her thoughts about this historic women's team and the impact it has made on the game and her thoughts of one day coming back to Iowa to coach.

I would have to say to someone like Kate Martin afraid of taking time away from younger players is like Gabbie Marshell said younger players still learn from older players & sitting the bench. Their time will come soon enough & at their still learning from you in practice & watching you in games & that in the end helps them be even better & more ready when it is finally their time.

I completely fell on love with Kate Marin throughout the final four. Her heart, drive and leadership is absolutely amazing. I felt she should have gotten much more attention and recognition than she did from the media. Just listen to her teammates and coaches. Yes, Caitlin is amazing, but Iowa wouldnt have gotten where they were without her. The was the rock, the glue, the true leader of that team. Iowa lost a great player, leader, person as she leaves the team. I will absolutely ne watching her career as much as possible over the next years as i know she has greatness ahead of her. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Love that girl!!!

Quad Cities native/resident and Illini alum here. I am shamelessly a zealous Hawkeyes women's hoips bandwagon fan, having been to games the past two seasons. (Sorry, though, not the men! ... Actually, there are two Moline boys on the men's team, so I cannot help but but root for them too!) I freakin' LOVE everything I know about Kate!! If I had a son, I would want him to marry her... except HE would be too old!! I just learned from this video that her mom is from the Quad Cites, so I will have to look further into that to see how many degrees of separation I am from Kate! Thanks for this video!
